About This Listing
A charming space that's located in a quiet neighborhood close to the UNC campus & downtown Chapel Hill. Visit friends or college children, dine, & shop in the southern part of heaven or stay in to relax, read books, & cook your own gourmet meal!
The little house is truly a small and complete house - there's a charming living room complete with packed bookcase, a very workable kitchen with fridge, electric stove, dishwasher, microwave and toaster oven, a comfortable bedroom with a double bed and a television, and a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower.
The house is connected to our bigger house by a covered breezeway but has its own entrance and access by walkways directly from the driveway where you are welcome to park.
Interaction with Guests
We will be here during a guest's stay here and will be delighted to share information about "the southern part of heaven," as Chapel Hill is known. However, the little house is separate and completely private, and guests are free to come and go on their own schedules.
It's a quiet and friendly neighborhood in Chapel Hill with easy access to downtown and to the University of North Carolina. Lovely place to walk in the evening.
Just a couple of blocks' walk takes you to Culbreth Road where you can pick up the D Bus [always a free ride in Chapel HIll!] that will take you to downtown Chapel Hill and to the University of North Carolina. We're also close to all major roads and interstates in the area and close to area shopping by car.
Other Things to Note
We do have one pet, a cat - but, of course, he will not be staying at the Little House! However, they have stayed there with our children in years gone by so if you're seriously allergic to cats, you may want to choose another place in Chapel Hill.
We do have a Pack and Play should you want to bring an infant - we would welcome little ones!
We ask that guests not smoke in the Little House.
From Mar 1 - May 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Our stay with Carolyn and Ralph at the Little House was wonderful. We brought our three year old along with us and they did everything they could to make her feel welcome (providing a small cot for her to sleep on, putting out toys in the Little House, letting us use their swing sets and other backyard toys). The house was such a neat space and perfect for the three of us. They helped us find our way in Chapel Hill and were always available if we needed anything. We will definitely stay with them again if we are back in the area!
Wonderful as always! Thank you Carolyn and Ralph! We hope to see you the next time we're in Chapel Hill.
What a fantastic stay at The Little House. It is even lovelier than the photos show-clean, cozy, private, and so comfortable. The house is nestled in the woods! Carolyn greeted me with lovely red roses and essentials in the frig and pantry, including milk, OJ, bagels & cream cheese. An excellent greenway trail starts nearby, so I had many great walks there and in the picturesque neighborhood. I highly recommend and can't wait to return.
We had an amazing stay at the "little house". The house was anything but little and was bigger than our apartment in Boston. Carolyn and Ralph are wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. It was very nice of Carolyn and Ralph to leave fresh flowers, bagels, coffee cake, & a bottle of wine for us.
We have now used Airbnb about a dozen times and we have had nothing but good experiences. Carolyn's "Little House" is right at the top of the list. With a private entrance surrounded by beautiful trees at the back of the Karpinos home, the house feels both cozy and spacious. The space is immaculate and it feels like a rural retreat although it's only a five minute drive to the UNC campus. Carolyn stocked the house with more provisions than we possibly could have used during our stay. We loved having leisurely breakfasts in such a beautiful spot.
We only met Carolyn and Ralph very briefly as they were out of town for most of our stay. However, they couldn't have been more gracious or welcoming when we arrived, and Carolyn did a great job of staying in touch to make suggestions about our stay. Highly recommended!
This was our second time staying at the little house and once again we had a wonderful experience. It is so peaceful and calming. Carolyn and Ralph had the fridge and pantries well stocked. It's close to Merritt's and about 3 minutes to campus. Super convenient.
Carolyn and her husband were lovely hosts-generous, well-informed, and genuine. My daughter and I traveled south to visit some colleges in the vicinity, and we're made to feel very welcome-- great coffee, bagels and a raspberry tart awaited us. Our lovely hosts even took us on a tour to get us oriented! The home is decorated as you see it in the pictures, comfortable antique furniture, great selection of books and magazines, reliable heat and air conditioning. The university is about two mile down the road--my daughter and I walked it instead of taking the car. Lovely neighborhood-safe, verdant and quiet.
About the Host, Carolyn
Carolyn Karpinos - retired attorney married to Ralph Karpinos who is also an attorney here in Chapel Hill. We have children and grandsons in Nashville, Tennessee and Brooklyn, New York. I am an avid photographer, enjoy cooking, and love to read. My husband is a runner and swimmer and bakes the best bread in town! We have travelled extensively in this country and are doing some international travel these days as well. I lived in Accra, Ghana for a few months and have also spent some time in Haiti as a volunteer. Chapel Hill and Carrboro are wonderful small towns - very cosmopolitan and somewhat funky - but still rooted in their southern heritage in that the pace of life is not too hurried and people are friendly. We welcome guests to this area and like being hosts!
