About this listing
Our vintage Airstream trailer, just 2 miles east of Cayucos & world-renowned Highway 1, is surrounded by 8000 acres of rolling hills. The updated 30' trailer has a kitchen, bathroom, outdoor shower & attached private deck with an amazing ocean view.
Whether you want to get out of the city for a weekend or spend some weeks immersing yourself in a dream life...
If you’ve ever driven the 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles, you’ve driven through Cayucos, though you might not have noticed.
We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, where the wide beaches of Southern California give way to the rocky beaches of Northern California and commutes include seeing dolphins and migrating whales. We’re just 4 hours from either SF or LA, a stone’s throw from Montaña de Oro, and only an hour south of Big Sur.
Our ecological ranch, focused on self-sufficiency and sustainability, is situated right off the 1 on top of a hill immediately overlooking Whale Rock Reservoir and, only 2 miles to the west, the Pacific Ocean.
The Airstream is comfortable for two people and shares property with the main house that we live in. We keep chickens for eggs, a raised vegetable garden for food, and a drought-resistant native succulent garden, landscaped with recycled materials, for pleasure. There are two cats on the property, but not allowed in the trailer. Birds, rabbits, deer and the occasional bobcat come and go as they please on the 25 acres. We compost, take short showers, and turn off the water when we brush our teeth, and we hope you will, too. Welcome!
Guests have access to bath and kitchen amenities from towels to tea. There is also an outdoor grill and umbrella. There is wifi. Plus, beach-going items. Feel free to mine us for local knowledge -- where to surf, hike, and eat!
Interaction with Guests
We're into surfing, hiking, cooking, and doing it ourselves. We love having friends over for dinner as much as we love a quiet evening watching the stars come out. Your space is your space, but as on these country roads, we always greet each other in passing.
World-class surfing, good food, and a thriving local art scene make San Luis Obispo county an up-and-coming hub.
In true country fashion, we have strong relationships with our neighbors, even if we don't see each other that often. We go into town for the necessities regularly.
On your visit, you should definitely spend time in the nature, whether on the immediately wide sandy beaches of Cayucos or a little father afield in Montaña de Oro or Big Sur (Bixby Bridge, Ventana Wilderness, Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park). There's always a new hill to climb or vista to see!
Buses come through Cayucos, "the last California beach town," three times daily, but our ranch is still two miles away. If you do arrive by public transit, we could arrange a pick-up in town.
The drive from San Luis Obispo is easy and parking on the ranch is free. From SLO Airport, it's an easy 30 minute drive north.

Stupidity cures itself. We ask that you respect our less-than-conventional lifestyle and are mindful with water usage due to the drought. Due to fire hazards, we cannot have smoking or fire pits on the property. Please leave your pets at home.
