Our vintage Airstream trailer, just 2 miles east of Cayucos & world-renowned Highway 1, is surrounded by 8000 acres of rolling hills. The updated 30' trailer has a kitchen, bathroom, outdoor shower & attached private deck with an amazing ocean view.
Whether you want to get out of the city for a weekend or spend some weeks immersing yourself in a dream life...
If you’ve ever driven the 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles, you’ve driven through Cayucos, though you might not have noticed.
We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, where the wide beaches of Southern California give way to the rocky beaches of Northern California and commutes include seeing dolphins and migrating whales. We’re just 4 hours from either SF or LA, a stone’s throw from Montaña de Oro, and only an hour south of Big Sur.
Our ecological ranch, focused on self-sufficiency and sustainability, is situated right off the 1 on top of a hill immediately overlooking Whale Rock Reservoir and, only 2 miles to the west, the Pacific Ocean.
The Airstream is comfortable for two people and shares property with the main house that we live in. We keep chickens for eggs, a raised vegetable garden for food, and a drought-resistant native succulent garden, landscaped with recycled materials, for pleasure. There are two cats on the property, but not allowed in the trailer. Birds, rabbits, deer and the occasional bobcat come and go as they please on the 25 acres. We compost, take short showers, and turn off the water when we brush our teeth, and we hope you will, too. Welcome!
Guests have access to bath and kitchen amenities from towels to tea. There is also an outdoor grill and umbrella. There is wifi. Plus, beach-going items. Feel free to mine us for local knowledge -- where to surf, hike, and eat!
Interaction with Guests
We're into surfing, hiking, cooking, and doing it ourselves. We love having friends over for dinner as much as we love a quiet evening watching the stars come out. Your space is your space, but as on these country roads, we always greet each other in passing.
World-class surfing, good food, and a thriving local art scene make San Luis Obispo county an up-and-coming hub.
In true country fashion, we have strong relationships with our neighbors, even if we don't see each other that often. We go into town for the necessities regularly.
On your visit, you should definitely spend time in the nature, whether on the immediately wide sandy beaches of Cayucos or a little father afield in Montaña de Oro or Big Sur (Bixby Bridge, Ventana Wilderness, Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park). There's always a new hill to climb or vista to see!
Buses come through Cayucos, "the last California beach town," three times daily, but our ranch is still two miles away. If you do arrive by public transit, we could arrange a pick-up in town.
The drive from San Luis Obispo is easy and parking on the ranch is free. From SLO Airport, it's an easy 30 minute drive north.

Stupidity cures itself. We ask that you respect our less-than-conventional lifestyle and are mindful with water usage due to the drought. Due to fire hazards, we cannot have smoking or fire pits on the property. Please leave your pets at home.
It was fantastic. We arrived rather late due to a long journey but were welcomed to a trailer that was immaculate and had amazing attention to detail. The views from the trailer were just stunning, and it was nice to see that we had free coffee, milk and popcorn to help ourselves to. Thank you so much for making our trip so pleasant.
Ryk and April were incredible hosts and made our experience visiting the Central Coast of CA a very memorable one. A few of their special touches include: Ryk greeting us upon arrival by walking out to our car, umbrella in hand as it had just started pouring, a birthday banner hung up in the Airstream in celebration of my husband's 30th, a clean, spacious and comfortable Airstream decorated perfectly in an eclectic but tasteful retro/vintage style, plenty of blankets, an awesome book collection, an insane view of the hills, reservoir and Pacific Ocean, a truly amazing cactus and succulent garden, and fresh eggs, juice, muffins, and coffee for the morning. All of the sweet details were not lost on us. April and Ryk are warm, friendly and down-to-earth hosts who respect their guests' privacy while also being very approachable. I'm so glad to have found their beautiful and cozy spot in Cayucos and we can't wait to return. Thanks Ryk and April for helping to make this birthday surprise such a huge success!
Absolutely AMAZING!! April has thought of every little detail and the airstream was absolutely perfect. It truly is a gem and even though we were only able to stay for one night, the experience was unforgettable.
Can't wait until we get to come back!!
This was my first Airbnb experience, so all my future Airbnb experiences have a lot to live up to! The location is incredible. It's located up in the bluffs overlooking the lake, and the ocean is in the distance. It's quiet and tranquil, and reminded me so much of being in the Italian Alps! I loved the chickens running around and the cat (never learned his name, but he was very friendly). We took some wonderful photos while staying here.
The Airstream is clean, cozy and warm. It has a great heater for the cool nights, and the toilet is connected to the home's septic tank so no stinky sewer tank! The decor of the Airstream is fun, witty and creative. I seriously wanted to move in permanently. The outdoor shower provides enough privacy, and showering in the outdoors overlooking the mountains is an incredible experience.
Since it is tucked away in the mountains, April and Ryk provide fresh eggs from their free range chickens, popcorn, oatmeal, orange juice, coffee (cream and sugar provided), and drinking water. I'd also recommended bring some additional food like maybe bread and cold cuts, because you'll never want to leave! Plus it can get foggy and the drive up the mountain at night can be challenging, so you may want to stay at the Airstream for dinner and watch the sunset, or curl up in the cozy, warm bed.
I loved this place so much, I will definitely return. I will also recommend this place to all my friends for the experience alone.
This really is a gem. The perfect place for a getaway. April has created a quirky airstream with all the little things to make it an ideal place to kick back and relax. We've already recommended to friends and hope to one day return.
This was my first AirBnB experience and April was a really wonderful and accommodating host, despite the fact that I was lost with no cell signal to tell her I would be arriving later than expected. The space was amazing (she and Ryk thought of everything) and very clean. The eggs, coffee, juice and other snacks were delicious. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer and have some time to really speak with April & Ryk. If you arrive at night, it's hard to see on the country roads, so be sure to keep a copy of the directions -- the 2.8 mile note was helpful!
This place is a little gem. My daughter and I wished we could have stayed for more than one night. Everywhere you look inside the airstream you see such unique and artistic detail. We sat in the eveing reading books and enjoying the serenity this location delivers. What a treat after leaving the hustle and bustle of LA.
My husband and I wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if we didn't have our projects. We live the project life. Let us share one of them (our Sovereign) with you. Who knows what we'll be up to upon your arrival!
