I have a lovely double room, and/or, alternatively, a twin room, to share in an old farmhouse (some parts of the house date from the seventeenth century), set on the foothills of the Lake District in north England, with splendid views and immediate walking access to the fells. Enjoy real peace and quiet, tasty breakfasts and the homely company of cats and hens. You'll be far from the madding crowds, but you'll still have access to the modern world via wifi too!
It's most useful to come by car as there is no public transport in the vicinity, but I can happily pick you up from the nearest railway station, Foxfield - for a small fee - if necessary. Free supper to any guest who walks the distance!
The accommodation is most suitable for a couple, or two to four people/family/friends travelling together and happy to share, as there is just one bathroom (and you'll also be sharing with me). At popular times of the year I might (rarely) offer my second room to other guests, but with discretion, and after consultation with you.
The Blacksmith Arms - an award-winning pub - is a lovely 25-minute walk down the hill (though depending how much you enjoy their wonderful real ale and yummy grub, it could take you a lot longer to get back up!) The closest village is 3 miles away and offers other pubs and cafes, post office, a tourist information centre, a pleasant village square and a village shop that sells some locally-sourced food.
The Lake District can be a wet and muddy place sometimes, so don't forget to pack some sturdy, waterproof walking boots or wellies, and a waterproof jacket. The track to my place is bumpy, narrow and steep in places but I think you'll find it worth the adventure!
If you fancy a sojourn in surroundings that inspired the great romantic poets, then do please come!
I had a wonderful couple of nights at Hawes Farm, a truly special place. Everything was perfect! Kate and Jesse are such amazing hosts - so kind, generous, welcoming and friendly. The house (which looks like it is straight out of a fairytale!) is in the most incredible location, surrounded by stunning countryside & inside it is beautifully decorated, cosy and full of lovely spots to sit and read & relax. I had a wonderful time & hope to visit again sometime!
We had a wonderful night staying at Kate's! We felt very welcomed by Kate, her cats and several chickens. The bedroom was very comfortable and the view was wonderful. The location couldn't be more breathtaking and we were both sad to have only been able to stay 1 night. Kate's tip about the pub down the road was just what we needed after the drive and the meal was great.
I would recommend Kate's rural abode to anyone, in fact we have already told several friends to plan a trip!
Kate's home is absolutely wonderful - such a treat! We loved her beautiful decorating inside, and the location is simply amazing. Kate herself is kind and soooo helpful and considerate! We wished we could have stayed longer. Everyone should stay here! Literally, a perfect hostess! :)
We had a fascinating, magical few days at Hawes Farm. Looking out our bedroom window, we were mesmerized by the acres of green farmland, spotted with sheep. An iconic, 300-year-old sycamore just outside the door further enchanted us. Kate and her home are both charming. This rustic retreat was delightful and relaxing - the experience left us hungry for more.
Lovely house and setting, with great walking from the door. Enjoyed relaxing by the fire as well. Kate was very friendly and helpful. Hope to come again.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time staying at Kate's ultra rural cottage in a very pretty spot of the south Lake District. Kate was charming, thoughtful with her suggestions and when I left my phone charger by accident in our room she went above and beyond to send it back almost the next day!
The cottage itself is rustic, homely and full of character with a cosy open fire. The track up to it can be a bit rough near the top (it had rained heavily just before we arrived) but was manageable. Delicious breakfasts with eggs from the chickens and the Lakes on your doorstep.
Kate's place is a gorgeous house in a scenic countryside. The road to get there is a bit steep and narrow but you'll be welcome by hens, mud and smiling people. Her home is the one you dream of when you want to think, when you want to read a book by a fire or when you want to rest your mind. You can have a lot of privacy or you can chat away with Kate and Jesse. Please, do stay more than one night or you'll regret it.
On Arriving at Kate's Beautiful home we found it difficult to contain our delight on seeing this beautiful fairytale cottage framed by picture perfect hills and tree! Our Hosts Kate and Jesse could not have been more accommodating and made our stay not only comfortable but also interesting, make sure you stay more than one night so you can chat! The walks straight from the door are fabulous and wild.
From pushing the car up the drive (!), to hand delivering a misplaced camera, Kate is truly the ultimate host! We had a lovely (but too short!) stay in her magical cottage, and was made to feel so welcome and at home, by Kate and Jesse.
Kate's cottage is cosiness defined, and located in beautifully tranquil surroundings. From the roaring wood burning fire, the warm and gorgeously decorated bedrooms, to the spread of fresh breakfast in the morning - we only wished we could have stayed longer! My mum couldn't believe what amazing sleep she had (having suffered from sleep problems for years!).
Kate and Jesse were so helpful and flexible, we couldn't have asked for better hosts! Such interesting people too - would've loved to have more time to chat!
Thank you Kate, for a lovely stay - if you'll have us again (we'll be less scatty next time!), we'd love to stay longer next time!

Although our stay was short Kate made us feel very welcome and we really enjoyed staying in her beautiful house.
Thank you Kate!
