Lovely double room to share in an old farmhouse (some parts of the house date from the seventeenth century), set on the foothills of the Lake District in north England, with splendid views and immediate walking access to the fells. Enjoy real peace and quiet, tasty breakfasts and the homely company of cats and hens. You'll be far from the madding crowds, but you'll still have access to the modern world via wifi too!
It's most useful to come by car as there is no public transport in the vicinity, but I can happily pick you up from the nearest railway station, Foxfield - for a small fee - if necessary. Free supper to any guest who walks the distance!
The accommodation is most suitable for a couple or a single guest, as there is just one bathroom, and you will also be sharing with me, but I can comfortably host two extra guests in the twin room if you are travelling in a party of three or four and are happy to share. At popular times of the year I might offer my second room to other guests, but with discretion.
The Blacksmith Arms - an award-winning pub - is a lovely 25-minute walk down the hill (though depending how much you enjoy their wonderful real ale and yummy grub, it could take you a lot longer to get back up!) The closest village is 2.5 miles away and offers other pubs and cafes, post office, a tourist information centre, a pleasant village square and a village shop that sells some locally-sourced food.
The Lake District can be a wet and muddy place sometimes, so don't forget to pack some sturdy, waterproof walking boots or wellies, and a waterproof jacket. The track to my place is bumpy, narrow and steep in places but I think you'll find it worth the adventure!
If you fancy a sojourn in surroundings that inspired the great romantic poets, then do please come!
Kate's place is a gorgeous house in a scenic countryside. The road to get there is a bit steep and narrow but you'll be welcome by hens, mud and smiling people. Her home is the one you dream of when you want to think, when you want to read a book by a fire or when you want to rest your mind. You can have a lot of privacy or you can chat away with Kate and Jesse. Please, do stay more than one night or you'll regret it.
On Arriving at Kate's Beautiful home we found it difficult to contain our delight on seeing this beautiful fairytale cottage framed by picture perfect hills and tree! Our Hosts Kate and Jesse could not have been more accommodating and made our stay not only comfortable but also interesting, make sure you stay more than one night so you can chat! The walks straight from the door are fabulous and wild.
From pushing the car up the drive (!), to hand delivering a misplaced camera, Kate is truly the ultimate host! We had a lovely (but too short!) stay in her magical cottage, and was made to feel so welcome and at home, by Kate and Jesse.
Kate's cottage is cosiness defined, and located in beautifully tranquil surroundings. From the roaring wood burning fire, the warm and gorgeously decorated bedrooms, to the spread of fresh breakfast in the morning - we only wished we could have stayed longer! My mum couldn't believe what amazing sleep she had (having suffered from sleep problems for years!).
Kate and Jesse were so helpful and flexible, we couldn't have asked for better hosts! Such interesting people too - would've loved to have more time to chat!
Thank you Kate, for a lovely stay - if you'll have us again (we'll be less scatty next time!), we'd love to stay longer next time!

Although our stay was short Kate made us feel very welcome and we really enjoyed staying in her beautiful house.
Thank you Kate!
First time using airbnb and found it brilliant - kate has a wonderful home, walking out the back and immediately onto the hills was so relaxing and the room and breakfast were just right. Thanks kate.
Had a fantastically relaxing weekend with my girlfriend at Kate's beautiful rural retreat!
Both Kate and her son Jesse were wonderfully welcoming - they even dropped us off and picked us up from the local pub!
The room was picture perfect and the views were incredible. And the breakfast was out of this world - best I have ever had - including eggs from Kate's chickens and a whole wealth of organic/delicious produce - you could be eating breakfast for days!
Overall I would rate the whole experience as fantastic and I will definitely be returning again to see Kate and Co!
Fantastic accommodation, a large farmhouse with stunning views and walks straight from the door. Kate is a very pleasant host, we really enjoyed our stay and felt very refreshed when leaving. Thanks Kate!
We absolutely loved our time with Kate in her beautiful, idyllic home. From the moment we arrived after our amazing drive along the steepest, windiest lanes, we were charmed and delighted by everything about our stay . . the cosy rooms, the crackling fire, the most amazing breakfast ever ! Kate's taste and hospitality was wonderful, she made us feel so welcome and had thought of absolutely everything. The location is perfect. We came away (reluctantly !) feeling peaceful and rested. Just wonderful. Thank you.
What an amazing rural retreat! We wanted to get out of the city for a few days and this was the best place we could have asked for, a warm welcoming environment with two great hosts.
The surrounding hills and valleys were great for a wintry stroll, and the local pub served up a delicious dinner and a good pint.
I would recommend staying with Kate to everybody!
This place is amazing! Absolutely one of the most lovely places we have ever stayed. You approach up a very steep bumpy farm track and it feels like it's just the lovely old house and the hills all around you. We both left feeling privileged that the family wanted to share such a beautiful home.
Kate and Jesse both welcomed us into their home and helped us with our bags then left us to it. We had a lot of privacy, Kate set breakfast up for us in the mornings and left us to help ourselves, we also had the roaring fireplace alone to ourselves in the evening, where we had a cheese and wine feast, which was just ideal for us.
Kate and Jesse were very welcoming, kind and came across as genuinely lovely people. We also wanted to give a big thank you to Jesse who came out at a moments notice to rescue us from the local pub our first evening. We had walked, with torches in the pitch black to the pub, which was very exciting but being January it was very cold and they live in a very hilly area. We were approaching the walk back with some trepidation, however, when the landlord heard where we were staying he insisted on calling Kate and Jesse collected us 10 minutes later. Both me and my partner felt this kindness went above and beyond.
We have immediately talked our friends into coming to stay their with us over the summer! Thank you for our lovely holiday.
