This one bedroom house is on 10 acres at the end of a rural road and yet just 1 minute to Hwy 116 near Forestville. There is no road traffic since it is on the back of the property. Quiet, private and serene.
This listing is for a double bed in a private room. There is also a double bed in the living room. That listing is the "cozy bed" listing in the same house. There is also a listing for this entire house ( "serene house and garden hide-a-way" listing for the same house) which includes both of these beds and full privacy. There is also room for a tent outside in nature.
NOTICE that if you want the private room and have another person or couple in your party and don't mind sharing the house with one person who lives in a second bedroom in the back of the house then you may combine this listing with "cozy bed" and pay less than requesting a house with total privacy under the "serene" listing.
Your sunny, south facing porch looks out onto a wonderful flower and vegetable garden that is graced by the flowing sounds of water from a dophin fountain. Just past the garden you see deer walking through the meadow and tall trees beyond that. There is an earth mound walking labyrinth in the back yard. There is also a special oak grove to enjoy shade and solitude at the end of the 10 acres.
The house is casual in decor and is on the small side. You share a bathroom with one other person who stays in the back bedroom and often is not present. There is the possibility that you may have the house all to yourself and then again, there could be another Airbnb guest in the open space which is listed as "cozy bed in winecountry." When this private room is yours it is very rare for the host to be on the premises and often a garden assistant living on property in a tent ( only mild months) would be the one to greet you.
The house has many decorative artifacts indoors so is not childproof or very adaptable for children. The gardens on the property are not designed with protection from dogs, but the house may accomodate one very well behaved, older dog.
There is a stereo, tv (dvds only) and barbecue. Full kitchen, bath and even a hot and cold outdoor shower. Even a flock of chickens in a coop in the backyard. Nature is the entertainment here; it is very quiet and full of night starry skies. This is beautiful wine country. The ocean is only 30 min away. It is a short walk to the end of the road where there is a bus stop for bus #20 going to Guerneville, Sebastopol and on to Santa Rosa. Very convenient!
My trip to Sonoma County was made very pleasant and easy due to Irene's accommodations. Far from a "fancy" hotel experience, this cozy house off of a country road was very quiet and peaceful in a farm like setting. The house is tidy yet lived in and my bed was comfortable. I always felt safe and secure, even when I was the only one there. No frills in a country setting was what I was looking for and that is what I got. Irene's house is a short seven miles from Guerneville and other Russian River towns and her prices are a real bargain compared to comparable housing on this website. All in all, very pleasant stay.
irene is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. she is always smiling and laughing and made us have a terrific time. the private room was nice and the bed very comfortable. the area is peaceful and full of nature and at night the view of the stars is amazing.
we decided to bring dinner in and irene was really accommodating to that. we decided that from now on if we want to stay overnight in wine country we will stay with her.
thanks again, irene!
This is a lovely location, and the song of birds in the morning was delightful! I agree with other comments about maintaining very low-key, laid-back expectations. Maybe best for the solo traveler with a sense of adventure and little need for privacy. Folks may come and go at all hours of the night - and the walls are paper thin. I did not have a chance to meet Irena, as she was out of town when I made my booking, but she was very communicative and helpful by email and phone, and provided very important, explicit directions to the house - make sure to get those.
Irena is a lovely woman, very sweet. Be prepared to not have a private room, though - the futon bed you see in the living room pics is your bed. We were lucky that Irena had to travel somewhere and the other roommate was also out so we had the place to ourselves. Otherwise, could get somewhat cramped with no privacy. Imagine a rural area within 10 mins of Sebastopol. I have lived in rural Tennessee and this reminded me of that - close to nature, quiet, but also a run-down look. The main road has nice houses, etc., this little place is on a large property that is next to where neighbors son has a bunch of cars he works on. On the whole, we liked the experience - keep your expectations low and ask about the privacy thing.
Irena is creative and sensitive; accommodations are a futon couch in the living room. Guests share the close-quartered double-wide mobilehome w/one bath with Irena and another room mate. One drives through a car graveyard to get there. I think a more accurate description on her part would be appropriate so that guests do not arrive and find something other than what was expected.
