Neighborhood highlights

John's beach favorites:
-Read recent log entries
-With telescope or binoculars, look for whales and fishing boats
-Soak in the clawfoot tub, second bathroom
- Easy beach access at Schooner Creek, just north of Agate Beach, stunning view of Yaquina Head Lighthouse
-Visit tide pools (at low tide): below Inn at Otter Crest or at Yaquina Head Lighthouse—Consult tide table in the cottage
-Otter Crest summit, gift shop perched on edge of the cliff
-Vistas on north side of Otter Crest: From Whale's Cove, southbound, at the base of Otter Crest, take the old road. When the road narrows to one-way uphill, across from old quarry, step over guardrail and locate trail down to several vantage points above the surf; watch out for treacherous precipices—NOT a good place to take children or dogs!
-Eat at Mo's. The original restaurant is on the bay front, Newport
-Oregon Coast Aquarium, over the bridge, south of Newport
-Nearby golf courses include Agate Beach, 3 miles south, Salashan, 10 miles north and Olalla Valley, just past Toledo, about 15 miles east of Newport, off Highway 20
-Dinner at Sylvia Beach Hotel, Nye Beach, Newport: must reserve. Guests are invited to play "the game"--2 truths and a lie. If you play, go for the gusto--BIG lie, not shaving the truth!
