Unique Characteristic for this listing:
- Hang out at my gorgeous back porch while checking your email, working on your computer or drinking coffee and enjoying the breeze.
Please note that this not a hotel room with a 24 hours service which is why it's so so so much cheaper, and much more laid back than hotels. Also, the room is in a house that was built in the 1920s so while you can find so many of Brooklyn's characters in it, it's not really shiny. In addition, the pictures are taken by a professional Airbnb photographer. I love those photos but some guests commented that Airbnb photos didn't convey the real look of the room. In any case, pictures are taken for the same room, I assure you. Lastly, please consider picking up after yourselves (towels, bath stuff, bathroom mat, and wash your plates/pots after cooking). At times, guests think that the house is untidy or dirty when it's actually another guest who decided to leave things unwashed... etc. :). In addition, please be advised that when you don't clean after yourself in the kitchen or bathroom, or when you eat in your bedroom that there is a chance that you see a mouse or roach. Thanks for reading.
Backyard, frontyard, livingroom, kitchen, and bathroom.
As much as guests want. I may or may not be present during the stay but if I am not, someone else should be there.
I love that my neighborhood is diverse, fun, not uptight, open, and I mostly love that I can get anything anytime of the day or night. I love that there are so many cafes and restaurants. I love that there are museums, parks, free concerts almost all summer long.
Public transportation are about 5 minutes away, and buses are only 30 steps away from my house. Parking is free although you have to abide by the two days cleaning for each side of the street from 9-11 in the morning.
To get from airport, take a taxi for $30-$40, or take the bus or subway for less than $10 total per passenger.

Warm room, hot shower, convenient to subway. What more do you need in NYC?
Very nice place if you are looking for a cheap and simple stay. Very friendly reception. I would go again :D
polite, clean, friendly, giving all the necessary information.
Great place to stay - I've been here twice. Highly recommend.
Great place and Natasha's sister, Shayma was so sweet and just an amazing host!
Host was very communicative and although we didn't meet, she made sure everything was in order. Her sister was amazing and was very helpful. Location was great, and the home was very clean. Note, this is an older home, and may not look as polished and new as the photos, but I was very comfortable staying here. Bed linens are new and fresh, porch right outside your door was a great bonus. Easy jaunt to metro has you in the city in less than 30 minutes. Would definitely stay here again.
I had a comfortable stay. The host kindly offered me a delicious meal. The place is close to the subway and hence convenient. The neighborhood was safe. I was out late into the night and early morning.
Please READ this before staying here!!
This is the worst place I have stayed in - there are mice everywhere and maggots on the kitchen ceiling!! (I have pictures with time stamp to prove this)
The room looks like the photo but either the photo was seriously photoshopped or it has not been cleaned in years. The same goes for the rest of the house. Filthy, filthy, filthy...words cannot describe.
There is no storage space for guests in the kitchen fridge or cupboard. I had to leave my dry food like granola and cereal in a box on the kitchen counter and the mice wreaked havoc on the box, I had to throw them away.
The house is near to subway so be prepared for the noise and vibration with every train going by. Plus the church bell goes off every 15minutes so I had to constantly have earplugs on or earphones.
I never met my host Natasha but I met her family who live in the basement and weirdly I got emails from Natasha, accusing me of bringing the mice to the house (apparently my box of dry food brought in the rodent infestation). Imagine that. Clearly this infestation is a long standing issue, especially since I noticed it on my first night.
All in all, I would not recommend this place, definitely AVOID unless you are desperate then stay 1 night and seriously look for another place to stay. I was very busy doing 12-14hr shifts at hospital so didn't have the energy to find someplace else to stay.
I am so sorry you didn't have a good stay at my place, Ngozi. And I am surprised that you didn't cancel your stay when you had this many problems knowing that you stayed for two weeks at my place!
I wrote on my listing that, like most houses in Brooklyn, the house is old and close to the park, and so when you decide to leave food exposed, then you will certainly see insects and mice sharing the food with you.
The church bell doesn't really go off at night, it's only during the day so unless the guest decides to sleep in all day (which is perfectly okay with me), it won't really affect you. After all, the church is about 5 blocks away from my place so it can't really be that loud. The same goes for the train and noise. People who are attracted to my place because it's so close to the subway, of course assume that they can sometimes slightly hear it. The trains are underground, do the noise can't really be that loud.
Also, the kitchen will always be filthy when you often use it to cook yet don't clean after yourself properly. The same goes for the bathroom when you leave hair all over the place. Of course no one wants to see that.
The photos, yes, don't look exactly like the reality. They are certainly not photoshopped, but rather taken by an Airbnb professional photographer who uses wide lenses. But the house is of course clean, and the sheets, towels, blankets are all changed after a guest checks out. Floors are always vacuumed... etc before any guest checks in.
I am also so sorry if I sounded accusing you of something. It was a polite email that I sent you asking you to not keep food exposed. I am surprised that the only thing you got from my email below is accusation:
You can certainly keep your things in the house, kitchen, fridge. No
question. But please, do make sure that none of the food is exposed to
prevent insects from gathering. That's all. The house is a little old, and
very close to the park. Exposed food can even bring rodents to the house.
You don't want rodents to share your food with you, I am sure.
Enjoy the rest of your stay, and please let me know if you need anything.
Again, I am so sorry you didn't have a good stay at my place.
- large living room and kitchen accessible to guests
- we did not meet Natasha throughout our stay, but Natasha's sister was warm and welcoming (she even brewed coffee for us on the first morning!)
- very comfortable bed of good size & clean sheets
- large mirror and table in room
- box of tissue and towels provided
- convenient location (5-10mins walk to Sterling St. subway, 40mins to the prime area in Manhattan)
- room does not look like what's shown in photos, looks a little rundown
- unable to use wifi from our room
My gf and I feel that the price is a little steep considering the room is rather old, but overall we had a pleasant stay :)
I am sorry about the WiFi. I wish you had said something so that I can help you get WiFi for your girlfriend. I am surprised though because I have an excellent internet connection at the house. None of the other guests complained about it before. I am also sorry if you think that the price is high. And the photos: you are correct, they look a little nicer than the reality, but after all, they were taken by an Airbnb professional photographer so they look a little nicer than the reality. To me, as long as the place is close to train station, the room is clean with AC and heating in the winter time, comfortable bed, then the photos couldn't/wouldn't be a big of an issue :)
