Welcome to Wildflower Retreat at This Old House. This self contained studio features king sleeping, kitchenette, and private bath in a restored 1912 Victorian home secluded in an Alabama Treasure Forest. The wrap around porches & swings beckon you to enjoy your early morning coffee or watch the sun set over the 9 acre pond. Don't confuse secluded with isolated or inconvenient; Wildflower Retreat is located 12 miles (13 min. drive) from Troy, AL home to Troy University with its many activities.

The space
Wildflower is sometimes labeled as the entire house because it has a private entrance., private en-suite sitting and dining area and en-suite bathroom. It is not the entire house but it is the entire southwest wing of the home. The Wildflower Retreat is a part of a 6200 square foot Victorian Era home built in 1912; the same year the Titanic sank. It is nestled in the country with an exquisite view of a 9 acre pond. Wildflower Retreat has a handicapped accessible private entrance off an amazing wrap-around porch that leads to an approximately 411 sq. ft. studio. This alluring space offers a new king bed and recliner, twin air mattress, microwave, Keurig coffee maker and refrigerator. Nestled in the cubbies below the coffee pot you will find coffee, creamer, and mugs to start your morning off right. Silverware, dish washing liquid, and paper towels are also provided. The spacious bathroom has a garden tub for your enjoyment. (jets do not work) Enjoy a game of chess or checkers as you lounge in the delightful space throughout the day. The inside also offers a comfy recliner where you can watch Cable TV or surf the net on free Wi-Fi. Additional sleeping on the comfy recliner makes the space great for families! Horseshoes, bad mitten and basketball are provided so the guest can get the full affect of the wonderful spacious shared yard. The vast porches afford the opportunity to gaze at the sparkling pond while swinging or rocking the day away; all while listening to the songbirds . Along with pond gazing you could enjoy a picnic on the porch at the patio table. Bring your board games an engage in a little competition under the shade of the immense porch! In the evenings the night sky is remarkable. Imagine no city lights and the stars and moon reflecting into the pond. All of this for you to enjoy at Wildflower Retreat. Dining is only minutes away. The Old Barn Restaurant is just up the hill from This Old House. It is open from 4pm to 9pm Thursday - Saturday. They serve home grown veggies and country homemade cooking on Sundays from 11am - 2pm. We want you to experience this unique restaurant that is a 100+ year old converted mule barn. The Old Barn has won the award for Alabama’s Best Steak and the best Catfish Award for Alabama. Goshen (only a five minute drive from This Old House) is home to Meme's & the Eagle's Nest. Both serve daily breakfast and lunch specials, chicken fingers, burgers, fries ,etc.
A directory of local dining is also provided. As you can see, Wildflower Retreat offer's a comfortable place to rest and unwind from a day of touring local attractions, attending sporting events, or cross country biking.

From the wrap around porches and swings you can listen to the birds chirp and watch other wildlife in the massive yard. Just like The Pool House , Wildflower Retreat, at This Old House is located on the Conecuh river. Enjoy the beauties of the country as you swing on the porch and take in the breathtaking view.

I am a young professional that worked in education for 17 years before deciding to take a different path. Southern hospitality has been ingrained in me from an early age and I just knew I would enjoy making guests happy and comfortable while they were visiting. So in June I began a new company called Southern Backroad Retreats. Southern Backroad Retreats began with only The Pool House and now I also rent the bottom floor (3 bedroom and full kitchen) of my in-laws home.
The Pool House which was home to David, my husband, and our two older children. We had an old farmhouse located where the main house sits now. One night while I was cooking supper David sold the farmhouse to a neighbor to be moved. David and I, along with our crew, built the Pool House at night and on the weekends. This after hours build turned into home for four years. We got pregnant with our third child and knew the one bedroom escape would not hold us all. That is when David built me the house of my dreams next door to The Pool House. Since then our kids have used The Pool House to entertain friends and the entire family enjoys curling up in front of a rolling fire!
Today, my husband David and I manage our businesses Taylor Construction & Roofing & Southern Backroad Retreats. Time that isn't spent working we spend watching our children play ball or enjoying a leisure drive on the mule around the countryside. David and I hope you enjoy the country as much as we do!
