We had an overall good stay in John's flat. The main perk for us was having a full-functioning kitchen. John was a great host who helped us through a beginning rough-patch of our stay. The faucet to the bathtub broke on our first day, and John came to investigate the problem within a half hour. He also had a plumber come to fix the faucet that day. We were glad to have such an attentive host. We would have had to find a new place to stay if this issue wasn't resolved so quickly.
We loved our stay at John's Brooklyn flat as it was in a decent location, it was roomy and had lots of touches of home including lovely decor. He even included lots of extra towels, coffee in the kitchen, and a great little stereo to hook your iPod or iPhone up to! Our only complaints were that noise from the neighbors upstairs and coming down the stairs carried through the walls. Our first night they were leaving for the airport at 4 in the morning and by the time they had loaded the car and left we were kept up for at least an hour. We also found the footed tub/shower a bit awkward to use and it ran out of hot water fairly quickly. But John was an excellent host, was very flexible with our dates, and all around great guy to rent from. We'd go back and highly recommend him! Thanks, John!
This clean and friendly flat is in a really convenient location. Everything from good beer and good food to walking trails and grocers was nearby. As for the house, the space is open and inviting but still cozy with plenty of seating. It was nice to have a place to call home for our 3-night stay and to have the added convenience of a full kitchen. The arched doorways and wood floors added charm and character just not found in a hotel room. Having a bottle of wine waiting was also a nice touch! Do keep in mind that this is the main floor of a 2-story rental. The floors creak and sound carries down from the renters above. This wasn't a big deal, but being awakened at 5:15 one morning and 6:15 another by people walking around upstairs was a bit of an early wake up call. I still consider this a 5-star rental because noise happens!
As for the owner/operator, he made the process a breeze. He was quick to respond to emails and messages and a pleasure to work with. Check in/check out was an easy process. I highly recommend renting from John since he was always very professional and courteous!
John is a wonderful host. He responded quickly to any requests we had and was always upbeat, positive and grateful that we let him know that there was anything we needed.
The home is comfortable and well equipped. The bed is comfortable. The home has a user friendly floor plan. It is conveniently located to everything. Brooklyn is a great neighborhood and we could walk to coffee shops, restaurants and live entertainment at the Aladdin.
I look forward to staying at John's next time I am in Portland.
We stayed here for a week in September/October. This is a comfortable, clean and spacious apartment that is in easy reach of city centre.
We enjoyed our stay here, but were disappointed that there were no laundry facilities, there is a laundry close by. The bath is also more of a shower bath, so if you want a nice soak after a long walk in the lovely Oregon countryside, you will be disappointed.
As the floors are solid wooden floors, you may experience foot noise from the apartment above.
I always believe in writing honest reviews. We enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again, should we return to Portland.
John's flat was exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for during our visit to Portland. The house looked exactly like the photos and I was thrilled to find many good restaurants (especially breakfast) within walking distance. We really appreciated the coffee beans and grinder that were provided, but unfortunately did not find the free bottle of wine that had been mentioned. Not a big deal. Our overall experience was enjoyable and we'd highly recommend the flat to others.
John's Brooklyn Flat was delightful. It was very comfortable, and nestled in a pleasant neighborhood. John was easy to be in touch with - prompt and friendly. I appreciated his willingness to allow a slightly earlier check-in time too.
John is a stellar Air BnB host. He is personable and helps the guests with dilemmas. My husband and I stayed here when we moved our son out to Reed College-we squeezed our 2 boys in for a night with us and John couldn't have been more accommodating. The location is quiet with good on street safe parking and is walking distance to so much.
We loved staying in the Brooklyn Flat (first floor) during our trip to Portland. It was clean and very comfortable, and nicely decorated. The kitchen was very cute and usable. There is a microwave, fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc. The bathroom was very nice and well stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap.
The location was good, too. Just up the street is a coffee shop / small grocery store. We were able to walk to some breweries, but it was about a 20 minute walk, which we were up for.
John was great, too. He was a very attentive host.
We brought our two small doggies and they really enjoyed staying there, too. We would stay here again if we return.
This place was really comfortable and well appointed. Plenty of kitchen stuff for us to make a delish breakfast. Mellow safe neighborhood. John was easy going and easy to communicate with.
