Car rental is your best option.
Other Things to Note
We'll give you the code for the gate and a remote control to open and close the gate for easy comfortable access.
So that the tub stays clean, George (pool speciaist extaordinare cleans it every Wednesday early morning). And also, PLEASE COVER THE TUB AFTER EACH USE. If and when it is not covered the tub gets dirty due to high maui winds and the fact that we're in the middle of a jungle. If that is the case the pool guy George comes out and cleans it, he comes every Wednesday, but if we need him to come before that, he'll do his best to make it ASAP, thus we cannot guarentee he'll be ready and able to come at the drop of a hat and have the tub cleaned after its been uncovered. At the same time, we're doing everything we can to remind guests of spa/pool rules, putting signs up, charging extra cleaning fees when the tub is uncovered, etc, thus this should not be a common occurence. PLEASE DO YOUR PART, MAHALO!
There is a 14% fee added for taxes. I will give you details as to how to pay for it separate from airbnb. To add it in the fees would make your airbnb host fee more expensive, thus we do it separately. Maui county is very strict with taxes, mahalo.
NO SHOES in the house. It's part of our Hawaiian culture and it helps keep germs and dirt away and out of the cottage, some guests have complained, (maybe one) if its a big deal, you don't have to, I say try it! its a cleaner way to live :) While you are here, it's your home, treat it as such, with love and respect for the 'aina' (land) and respect for the electricity bill, its highest in the country! If your gone for the day, please turn off the lights in the bathroom and bedrooms. We have patio and sensor lights for when you arrive at night. Also, if you're using the spa before 6pm or after 8pm, REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF afterwards. It is set on a timer and will turn on between 6-8pm. Most importantly PUT THE COVER BACK ON WHEN YOUR DONE USING SPA, the spa can turn into a mess if COVER IS OFF due to all of the leaves and wind on maui and it won't be usable the next day unless we call the pool guy who cannot always come right away and who charges extra if he has to come on a day that he's not scheduled. If your leaving the next day, and the spa is not covered the guests after you won't have access to spa until the pool guy shows up to clean it, so also out of respect to the guests after you; put the cover back on. Also, if you do leave the spa cover off, we have to charge you a spa cleaning fee.
NO CHARCOAL IN PROPANE GRILL! Yes a prior guest did this and destroyed our grill, luckily the house didn't explode.
Absolutely NO CANDLES. Please take all of your belongings with you, a double run through is a good idea. Please read thoroughly the email I send all my guests for detailed directions and house. In addition, we just put up signs for further clarity and to help you remember, its easy to forget things when your having a good time! :) I will email you our guestbook which is also available in printed form on the coffee table- info to zipline, waterfalls, ocean, nearby restaurants, fine dine, health food stores, massage, fitness and yoga instructor contacts, jacuzzi info, info on the house basics and information to your road to hana trip. much aloha and many mahalos! welcome to maui wowy!
This is a beautiful house and it is VERY clean. We did have some trouble getting into the house due to the entry code not being included on the itinerary. Just be sure to get the gate code and the house code before check in. AT&T and Sprint service does not work at the house which made it difficult to contact Lola/Patty for assistance. You can see the zipline parking lot and building from the back porch, and the driveway to the zipline runs behind the house. The cleaning fee is quite high for all the clean up you are required to do before checkout. You have to strip the beds, gather all trash and take it out, and make you everything is taken to the laundry. You can use the washer and dryer but the welcome letter says not to complain if it is in use when you arrive. You need to buy your own laundry soap. Over all this place is great for a family or two couples.
We had a fabulous family vacation in Maui and much of that had to do with where we stayed. Patty's house fit our needs perfectly. It was beautifully maintained and the setting was like no other. It was very rainy while we were there, which was actually quite nice, and we enjoyed hearing the rain pouring down through the trees.
My kids loved having their own private pool for a week, and my 5-year-old learned how to swim! For me, it was so nice to be able to relax, stroll to the pool whenever we wanted, kick back in the hammock, and cook up delicious tropical meals in the well stocked kitchen. We had one day where we had no water, but Oshen came to our rescue and got it running again. He was a great caretaker of the property.
I really hope we can come back and stay again someday. Looking back at the pictures of the house and the island makes me long to return (and we haven't even been home for a week yet!). Thank you, Patty, for sharing your space with us and for making this a very memorable vacation.
We must say a big Mahalo to Patty for making our first Family Vaca to Maui a wonderful experience! From breath-taking views of the surrounding Jungle to a beautiful ocean overlook from the Lanai. We couldn't have asked for a better home to call ours for our vacation. There was no hustle and bustle of the tourist life, just laid back comfort and beauty! Mahalo again Patty! And hopefully we will be seeing you again!
Great place! Very spacious, nice and clean. It is secluded and out of the way. The location puts you in a good spot for the road to Hana.
Everything was as described.
The host did a great job about emailing us beforehand with directions to the house, things to do in the area, and giving us a description of the house.
my apologies for the inconvenience about the gas, I had a new maintenance person the week you arrived, and that was the first thing we said to him, to check for gas levels. Unfortunately, the lever was not working and that was an issue beyond his control.... We are working with the gas company to get us the big tank so they can refill from the outside, but in Maui, everything takes time... and we've being trying for 6 months already. I promise you this issue won't happen to another guest. Thanks again for your feedback, sincerely Patty
Our stay at Ululani was fantastic. We loved the privacy and quietness of the house and gardens. It really is a private jungle oasis. The pool is in a fabulous location just up a path from the house. Even though it is shared, we didn't encounter another soul the entire 4 night stay.
The house is perfect for two couples or a family. We (4 adults 1 toddler) found it to be the perfect size for us. The open concept and separated bedrooms are
really nice. The wrap around patio and the view from both bedrooms are lovely.
We could easily spend a week or longer in this beautiful tranquil place. Highly recommended.
Note: the kitchen is well stocked for cooking including a fabulous vitamix blender. We enjoyed cooking and dinners on the lanai.
Enjoyed our stay at the Ulaini house in the jungle. House layout is very nice for two couples and the Lanai has a beautiful view of the jungle and the ocean in the distance. Enjoyed the hot tub daily, only used the pool once as the weather did not cooperate, but the pool is beautiful. Very private and well maintained home
