Miltown Malbay is an unspoilt gem on the west coast of Clare on 'The Wild Atlantic Way'. We are ideally placed to explore Ireland's Atlantic coast. Miltown is a busy country town with everything you need within walking distance. We are a two minute drive or a twenty minute walk from two beaches, Spanish Point, the well known surf beach and the White Strand, a more secluded beach with a fine coastal path and views of the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran islands. Shore angling is possible at both beaches. The world class surf beach and golf course at Lahinch is a 10 minute drive away. If you are following 'The Wild Atlantic Way' we are situated in the Mid- West between Signature Discovery Point 9 (Cliffs of Moher ) and Point10 ( Loop Head). Check out '50 Secrets of The Wild Atlantic Way'. Every July we have what is probably the best Traditional Irish Music event of the year, the Willie Clancy Traditional Summer School which brings together musicians, singers and dancers from all over the world.
There is a daily bus service to and from Ennis. Shannon airport is a 45 minute drive and Ennis is 25 minutes by car. There is the possibility of hiring bikes and many lovely walks.
Other Things to Note
The house is surprisingly quiet for being in the town and anybody who enjoys simplicity will like this kind of space.
Our house is a smoke free zone but you can smoke in the yard. We don't allow pets.
Mary greeted us with tea and bread and jam for which we were very thankful. The house itself is undeniably full of history and has many quirks to adore. Mary was also very understanding of our schedule changing, which we appreciated very much. The only issue we faced was the lack of heat-- fortunately there are two sources of fire but when that ran out, we were rather cold. We also had difficulty getting the hot water to work. All in all, we are so happy with our stay in Miltown Malbay and recommend this site for anyone interested in houses with a true history.
We stayed at Mary's charming and atmospheric cottage with my parents and 3 year old daughter. Mary was a very welcoming and thoughtful host. Before our visit, she was helpful and responsive to all questions. She had tea waiting for us when we arrived, and had fully equipped the house with everything we needed to get started - towels, logs for the fire, etc. She made us feel very at home and was an excellent host in all senses. I hope to have the chance to come back to Co. Clare and stay again.
Mary's family cottage is exactly as advertised. It is a quaint cottage with ample space for us as a 3 person group. Mary is accommodating, as she changed her personal plans to meet us after we got a flat tire. If you are seeking an authentic experience on the west coast of Ireland away from the tour busses Mary's is the place for you!
We had a fantastic welcome from Mary and Clare, with tea and soda bread and jam! It was really interesting to learn the history of the house. Mary and Clare were very friendly and helpful.
The house was clean and comfortable but not luxurious. It was just what we needed and we were very happy there for our 4 days (I would recommend at least a week!).
Miltown Malbay is a very small town but has everything you might need and is very friendly. It did not feel too touristy but like a normal Irish small town, which we loved.
