About This Listing
(Note: I prefer to rent for whole months, but I consider individual weeks when there is a gap between longer stays.)
Enjoy living in the San Pablo Arts District ( cut & paste into your browser: (website hidden)_Pablo_Arts_District ), right where Oakland, Emeryville and Berkeley meet. Great public transit & great location.
This fully remodeled 3 bedroom, 1 bath home comes completely furnished & equipped. Amenities in the common area of this two unit building include hot tub, washer/dryer and huge back yard with garden, outdoor fire pit and fig tree. As you'll see if you read my bio, I am in the travel business. When I am in the country, the completely separate downstairs studio is my home. When I am traveling, the downstairs stays vacant and you have the full property to yourself. Either way, I am always available by email if you have questions.
The neighborhood is quiet, safe, and centrally located.
The home is a 1300 sq ft. 1923 Craftsman bungalow full of historical charm. The original tiled fireplace and Wedgewood gas stove are fully functional. A flexible floor plan allows any combination of up to three bedrooms or three home offices. Owner will work with tenant to provide the right number of beds/desks for the tenant's desired furniture setup for longer term stays.
Location, Location, Location: The home is conveniently located in North Oakland, one block from Emeryville and just a few blocks south of the Berkeley border. Ashby BART, buses, shopping, restaurants, art galleries and 5 independently-owned cafes are all very easy walking distance, 15 minutes or less by foot. A free shuttle connects you to MacArthur BART, from which public transit to San Francisco, UC Berkeley etc. is cheap, frequent and convenient. By car, the home is conveniently located about 3 minutes drive from the Bay Bridge toll plaza, and 12 minutes from downtown SF when there is no traffic.
Most of my tenancies are roughly 3 to 9 months. I ONLY do daily or weekly reservations if there is an unexpected vacancy, or when I have a short vacancy between two longer-term groups. I show these short windows of availability on my AirBnB calendar. But primarily I am looking for groups who want to stay for multiple months while on sabbatical, while in town for a consulting gig, while remodeling their own homes, or when first arriving in the area and trying to get to know its neighborhoods.
The cleaning fee is $110.
Minimum 7 night rental, maximum one year.

Street parking is plentiful.
Check-in is 4pm, check-out is 11am. Other timing arrangements are possible by request.
Laundry hours are 10am to 10pm. Please do not use the laundry room outside of these hours.
For stays of more than 30 days, the utilities are shared on a per-capita basis. Utilities are included for rentals of 29 days or fewer.
I request that you leave the bungalow in the same condition as you found it. Basic cleaning supplies are provided. My cleaning crew will then clean it a second time before the next group arrives. The double-cleaning method has been the best way I've found to be sure that the home is clean for every group. The guests before you will do this. As a courtesy to the guests that follow, and to keep cleaning fees reasonable, I ask you to keep this virtuous cycle going.
If you find that anything is not as it should be, at any point during your stay, please notify me ASAP. I want this to feel like your home while you are here, and I want you to be happy.
Full house rules, WiFi password, and guide to the neighborhood are in a black binder you'll find in the kitchen.
Customer service was fantastic at helping us reach an agreement with this host after we left early due to the filthy conditions of this falsely advertised rental.
None of the bedding had been cleaned, the pillows were stained brown and all of the dishes, glasses and silverware were dirty.
The yard is so over grown with spiny weeds it is impossible to enjoy any time outside and if you're interested in the hot tub, it's broken.
You aren't aloud to wear shoes indoors or do laundry before 10am because the host lives in the basement, (which was not disclosed to us before we booked) and doesn't want to be disturbed. However, he will have no problem waking you up to BBQ a late night meal below your bedroom window.
We left the rental early after contracting dermatitis, which we are still receiving treatment for.
We received a message from the host implying our standards were too high and our feedback was frank. In my humble opinion, wanting the place you stay to be as advertised and clean enough so you don't become ill are not high expectations.
The house is nicely restored as a Berkeley style bungalow with mission furniture– we really enjoyed the experience! Everything was clean, the kitchen very functional and stocked with utensils, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom and shower good and the living room a great place to relax.
The location was good with cafes within walking distance, shopping very close, freeway easy to get to. There was always a place to park on the street right outside the house.
Michael was a great host. He was there when we needed him and he is a wealth of information about the area.
Thanks for a great time!
I did not personally stay at the property but worked with the owner to coordinate the stay for three of our employees. Michael was terrific. He was always quick to respond and very helpful. The young men that stayed the month were very happy with the residence and will definitely return again.
About the Host, Michael
I love travel so much I've made a career of it. Years ago, I was co-author of a guidebook to San Francisco. I'm currently researching for a website on the best of SF. Happy to help my guests find offbeat spots that fit well with each group's interests and hobbies.
