Nestled on 5 acres in the Barossa Valley, Pondicherri Village and The Barn is a private property and hosts accommodation in a village atmosphere in the separate outbuildings. The extensive rural views and privacy are enabled as it is surrounded by much larger working farms. Combined with rural amenity, Pondicherri Village has several historical buildings and creates a rustic oasis, yet is close to all that the beautiful Barossa Valley offers. The Barn is one of those buildings.

The space
The Barn is a single room building constructed with thick stone walls and exposed internal timber beams. The building is aged well over 100 years. We are not sure of its original use. Today, the Barn is furnished with a very comfortable super-sized king bed complete with crisp white sheets and natural fibre quality bed linens. In winter, you will keep very toasty with the individual dual zoned electric blankets. The bed is so spacious, it is also perfect for travelling family members or good friends to share!

The lockable private shower room and separate toilet are a short walk from The Barn and are located in the Wash House that is semi-attached to the (circa 1845) historic original settlers building - The Pug Cottage built of mud/straw and stone. Take a step back in time and ‘walk the walk’ of the original Barossa settlers - but these wash facilities are modern-day! However, if you are older or maybe have the need for suburban indoor comforts and/or a frequent night toilet user - the Barn might not be for you!

The Barn is a mix of old and new experiences. It shares the nuances of glamping but it’s neither a hotel room experience, a house nor an apartment! You can even leave the ‘dunny’ door open complete with a view!

For your entertainment, there is a smart TV with free access to Netflix, Stan, and Google Chromecast and other apps such as UTube to watch movies, videos, news - any program - while you cozy up in bed and/or access the NBN fixed wireless network for all your modern communication needs. Or, should you need to work (and we hope you don’t), you can set yourself up on the drop leaf table or maybe, just stay in bed! Or listen to your fav music, radio, and/or podcasts on the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 portable Bluetooth speaker.

An eclectic separate dressing area showcases a large gilded mirror, a vintage secretaire containing a hairdryer, an umbrella alongside hanging racks complete with two bathrobes. Load your luggage onto the wooden bench. There is a fold-out ironing board with iron.

A small kitchenette contains a kettle, microwave, toaster, and fridge to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Our guests also have access to the Pug Lounge - an indoor/outdoor space with a lounge area and BBQ facilities for cooking and relaxing.

There is no running water in the Barn, but we do provide a handmade 2-litre capacity ceramic water purifier system that removes nearly all contaminants including fluoride. The water purifier can be replenished with town potable water from the Wash House with the stainless steel jug that is provided in the Barn.

The north-facing deck is totally private and is a wonderful sunny spot to start your day. Later, you can sip your glass of Barossa wine with the occasional spotting of kangaroos in the paddocks. On a clear night, the Milky Way is stunning! Download a stargazing app and find the different constellations. It relaxing, peaceful, and rejuvenating - especially for city folk - or so we are told!

In the warmer months, you will have access to a 12 x 3.5 metre swimming pool. It is a shared space enjoyed by us and all guests but mostly you will find you can enjoy the pool by yourself.

It is what is on the inside that counts! We live on the property too and we are gradually upgrading the grounds but you will be very comfortable and importantly - very private. If you think you can enjoy this type of experience, we warmly welcome you to book with us at Pondicherri Village and The Barn.

Guest access
We will always greet you upon arrival and give a very brief introduction about the Barn. From then on, it’s all yours!

Inside your room, a welcome folder has been provided for you to read at your leisure. It contains our contact details, information about us and the property and lots of information about the Barossa Valley for dining options, winery information and tourism opportunities. We are more than happy to provide our personal tips too!

You may wish to consider to bring your own light breakfast provisions. There is a toaster, kettle, fridge and microwave in your room. Sometimes it’s good to chill and not rush off to find something to eat. That is - of course - if the slow pace suits you :)

Penrice, South Australia, Australia

We are only 5 minutes drive to the historic village of Angaston that is well serviced with a varied selection of cafes, numerous restaurants ranging from great takeaways/dine in options to fine dining, 2 pubs, a florist, a supermarket, butcher, hardware, medical centre, post office, speciality Barossa food businesses and some retail therapy.

We are 5 minutes drive from the famed Barossa Valley Farmers Market that is open every Saturday morning. Closer if you drive via the back way along the dirt road - Saleyards Road left on the bend at Penrice Road. Take care as mobs of kangaroos frequent the area especially early morning and dusk.

There are many high-quality wineries, restaurants, food establishments, and historic buildings to explore across the region. If food and wine are not your things, there are numerous walking and cycling trails, some easy bushwalks including spotting kangaroos at Kaisersthul Conservation Park. Or you could go ballooning or a helicopter ride for the birds-eye view! Just about everything except surfing!

We are only one hour's drive to the nearest South Australian coastline, the city of Adelaide, and the Adelaide Hills area. There is so much to do and explore in this beautiful part of Australia.

I love to travel but I’m grateful for living in South Australia - it is a bountiful wonderful gift in these times. I love to cook and share my table with family and friends. I particularly love the smell of a freshly picked Myer lemon and equally, fresh bunches of garden herbs. I love my little gentle animals and the flocks of wild birds that play and swoon across the wide skyline I see everyday. I’m social and then sometimes I’m a bit reclusive. I love the stillness and promise of a dawning sunrise more than the peace and surrender of a sunset, but both are spectacular, and I’m blessed to experience and appreciate it often. I am deeply grateful for living in a place that affords space and privacy. And I enjoy meeting people! Welcome to my Pondicherri village.
