Gunung Merta Bungalows is a collection of 8 unique guest rooms set within a traditional Balinese home compound of a high caste family in the cultural village of Ubud. Overlooking the Mas River and rice field view
Gunung Merta literally means ‘tree of life’ and travellers choosing to stay here have the opportunity to experience an authentic Balinese lifestyle by interacting with the family and participating in their daily activities.
Very welcoming and friendly staff. Clean room and delicious breakfast with a huge variety. Free coffee and tea at any time. Location is quite good too, 5 min with scooter to central Ubud. Wifi is not the fastest but (website hidden) calls and web surfing is possible.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gunung Merta. All of the staff were so friendly and are all such great people. The pool is absolutely amazing and looks even better than in the photos.
On arrival Gusde kindly greeted us at the airport and transported us to Gunung Merta Bungalows, even though we arrived late at night. Gusde is such a great host, he made us feel very welcome and was more than happy to discuss local culture with us.
The complimentary breakfast is very tasty and I recommend to all visitors to try out the Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng during their stays.
The location is ideal, it is only a short walk into the heart of Ubud and it is conveniently located across the road from a supermarket and the Commonwealth Bank branch in Ubud.
Arrived at our accomodation. Was looked after by a young boy who checked us in. We arrived earlier than check in time so we knew our room wouldn't be ready which was fine but he didn't even bother to show us around the accomodation. He just walked off, I had to approach him and actually ask him to just show us around etc to which he was suprised about!
We then checked into our room late arvo and the room was not as described at all! I had booked this room more than two months in advance and booked a double bed room however we were given two single bed rooms!
The same boy then said sorry and I said it wasn't good enough to which he had no reply other than to tell me that the other couple who are in our 'actual' room decided last minute to extend their stay so therefor we are the ones that copped the twin room not them! I was like are you serious??
I then asked to speak to the manager to which the boy replied constantly "he isn't here"
The room was terrible! Door didn't close properly so we had insects all throughout the night coming inside, the fly wire had holes right throughout it so I had to stuff toilet paper in the holes to prevent getting eaten alive by Mosquitos. The bathroom was disgusting and old and dirty and one of the lady's that woks/lives at the accomodation was constantly bothering other guests including my partner asking him and them constantly of we were interested in purchasing her artwork! Word of advice, don't bother the guests while they are trying to relax.
Had booked three nights only stayed for one an demanded a partial refund to which we got from the manager.
There is no where to lay by the pool either so overall this place is really rundown.
Would not recommend this place and so glad we only stayed one night.
Staff definitely need to work on people skills and how to deal with certain situations in a more professional manner.
The staff were friendly and the daily breakfast was yummy. The bungallows are rather basic. I was dissapointed to not be staying in the bungallow that was pictured on the site. the bungallows upstairs look very different to downstairs, upstairs are much nicer. The gardens and pool area are luscious and green and the pool is great. Its a very quiet and relaxing place and for the price its a good deal.
Gusde's inn is a wonderful find in Ubud. He, his family, and his staff are unfailingly gracious and responsive, the property is absolutely lovely, the prices are insanely low for value received, and the breakfasts are AMAZING. As noted elsewhere, the rooms are open-air so you can expect to share your space with critters -- get used to it, you're in the tropics and chose not to stay at a Hilton. The only downside (apart from the one already mentioned several times about the bathrooms needing some love) was that there were pretty much no unused electrical outlets, which meant that most nights we had to choose between a fan and charging our electronics. Small quibble, this is a great place.
It was a really lovely place to stay at! But the room I got from first was to open for me, mosquitos and everything can get in - they have a mosquito net over bed but it was to dirty. And the toilette wasn't fresh so I had to change. But it was no problem, very helpful and understanding of my fear for spiders so I had a "normal" room and the bathroom was much better there. Think its the Merta house I stayed in. The view where stunning!! And breakfast very good! Recommend the place if you ask for the other room. But some people like it open of course, still the wc was to dirty.
The bungalows were wonderful. Gusde was an extraordinary and welcoming host. Impeccable service all round. We had to depart early for a flight and our hosts were very accomodating. The bungalows are located inside what looks like a residential compound, though they are very private. The swimming pool is wonderful and we spent hours swimming without any issues. Wide array of breakfast options. Rooms are well-equipped though basic with fan cooling only (which is fine as it is specified in the listing). Very central and convenient location.
