Very friendly welcoming yet unobtrusive host.
Loves meeting new people sharing stories/travel info' and cups of tea/coffee! Respects the needs of guests whether it be privacy and total rest/seclusion or friendly shared interaction.... It's always the guests' choice.
We are lucky to live in this beautifully scenic area where the air is sometimes positively effervescent! And the moon when full casts a soft glow on the Comeragh Mountains.
The surrounding area is ideal for a stroll, some serious mountain or coastal walks, cycling, fishing and has some beautiful beaches for swimming or picnicing... namely Clonea-Ardmore-Stradbally-Youghal and a bit further to Tramore, Dunmore East etc.
The nearby town of Lismore is host to the international Travel Writers festival in August and the harbour town of Dungarvan hosts a now world- famous food festival in April plus numerous traditional/jazz music and cultural festivals throughout the year. There is theatre and cinema and restaurants to suit every taste.
The Historic Viking city of Waterford is 30 minutes away. The drive along the Copper Coast is breathtaking.
We are situated in a very quiet, peaceful, rural village surrounded by open space yet within a short drive to numerous amenities.
I look forward to helping guests enjoy it as much as I do.

A place so magical and peaceful. 100% recommendation!
Tranquil and relaxing rural retreat in the heart of the Comeragh mountains. If you like the peace and quiet of the countryside and to be surrounded by mountains and fields with only the sound of sheep and cows you will love Margaret’s place. While located in a rural setting (nearest shop and pub are 2kms away) it is only a 10k drive to the beautiful coastal town of Dungarvan and approximately 30 minute drives in different directions will take you to lovely beaches, lovely towns (Cappoquinn and Lismore) or to some lovely walks either along wooded river valleys or for the more adventurous into the mountains themselves to see the cooms (lakes sheltered in hallows beneath the mountain peaks). See below for our favourite excursions.
The apartment itself is spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and has everything you need for a self-catering holiday – modern cooker, decent size fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and 2 comfortable single beds. It is situated in a courtyard that you can sit out and enjoy when the sun is shining. We visited during a week of great weather and were able to have our breakfast in the morning and our after walk refreshments in the evening sitting in sunshine enjoying the country views. Margaret’s house is across the courtyard and she is available on hand should you need her advice or assistance. Margaret is very friendly and helpful and we loved Molly – her old springer spaniel who didn’t bark once when we there.
Excursions between 30 minutes and 1 hour’s drive from Margaret’s house that we did and enjoyed
•4 walks of different lengths and climbs starting from the Nire Valley carpark near Ballymacarbry. We of course did the longest and most strenuous one – the Coomdula walk which provided spectacular views of the lake in the hollow (coom) from the top of the mountain.
•The Mahon falls – easy 15 minute walk along a hard surface path from the Mahon falls car park up to the bottom of the falls.
•Any of the 4 walks in Glenshelane Woods near Cappoquinn.
•Near Rathgormack – The walk to Lough Mohra to view a coom lake underneath the peak of Knockaffrin – I particularly liked this walk as it wasn’t too strenuous but ended up in a lovely lake setting that on the day we visited we had all to ourselves.
All walks above and other walks we did not do but will do when we return can be found on (email hidden)
•Coastal town of Ardmore with its lovely beach, cliff walk and monastic round tower
•The drive and beaches along the Copper Coast (Dunhill and Annestown) – stop into the information center in Bunmahon to pick up information before starting off on the drive
Towns: As well as Dungarvan and Ardmore listed above we also visited Cappoquinn and Lismore (if you like gardens worth visiting the gardens of the castle in Lismore).
The apartment is very private, roomy, and comfortable. It was a bit difficult to find at night, but shouldn't be a problem during the day and the drive is quite beautiful. Margaret was really nice and friendly. The only thing to be aware of (which wasn't an issue, really) is that the electricity is metered so you pay what you use, minimum 5€. It's not a big deal, although we used all of ours in one night. It really was perfect for a night!
The house is decorated beautifully and has very nice modern appliances. The photos don't do the place justice. The standard of cleanliness and the overall accommodations provided by the host, Margret, were above average. Margaret is very gracious and had great suggestions for reasonably distanced attractions and restaurants. Nice views of the countryside.
We enjoyed our stay very much, Margaret made us felt at home. Lovely place with a great view in the morning! Thank you for hosting us Margaret!
I had a wonderful quiet week staying at Margaret's place. It is the perfect base for exploring the countryside, hills and coast of the "Sunny South East". The glorious late September weather helped it to live up to the tourist board marketing!
Margaret was a mine of useful information and was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The apartment is spacious, well-specified and has a great kitchen. It has a great rural location in the hills above the foody hotspot of Dungarvan and the roads are a pleasure to drive on. I'd certainly recommend Margaret's place for anyone who wants a quiet time exploring this charming part of Ireland. It was my first time here and I'll certainly be back.
Margaret's guesthouse is so beautiful. It is so spacious and bright. We loved, it was so clean and tidy. Everything we needed was there and everything worked. The landscape is awesome, it is really calm there. Margaret has a little dog, who is calm and friendly. Margaret herself is so kind and friendly. She showed us our rooms and breakfast for the next day was already in there when we arrived. Thank you for the great stay, your place is so beautiful, we loved it!
