Brahma House: An antique wooden house, built to create spacious and flexible living. It has a bedroom, an outdoor Balinese style bathroom, a cool shaded individual kitchen and lounge area and shared 13m pool. Away from, but quick access to busy Ubud.
Hati Suci (Clean or Pure Heart) is the name of our property. There are four houses on the property, Brahma House is one of them. All have access to the gardens and swimming pool. All have their own unique sense of privacy.
Hati Suci is located 13 km, 20 mins north of busy Ubud. Amid luscious rice fields, on the edge of virgin jungle, it reflects conscious sustainability and permaculture principles. Flexible accommodation suiting family, friends, retreats.
NEW INTRO OFFER
IMPORTANT: This introductory offer reflects that the current temporary access is via a rice field path. Although beautiful and used daily by the local community, we consider that (at present) it would be unsuitable for elderly or infirm visitors.
The antique wooden structure, has personality and rustic luxury running throughout. The owners personal taste and belongings add to the warmth and homeliness of Brahma House.
This wooden house has a raised terrace and open wooden steps, without hand rails, therefore, with their safety in mind, we recommend supervision for the elderly, infirm or under 12’s.
Brahma House has one double bedroom with a double or two single beds (as required), a wooden terrace with gorgeous views of the property and working rice fields. It has a spacious outdoor Balinese style bathroom, and a cleverly designed well equipped kitchen built under the main house, also incorporating a cool and shaded dining and lounge area. This delightful house is full of rustic luxury.
The bedroom has it’s own safe, big enough to hold a 17 inch laptop.
A 13m swimming pool is central to the property, surrounded by the maturing garden. A large comfortable Bale (covered seating area) is next to the pool, with other comfortable seating areas in abundance. Nearby, a covered traditional grass roofed building holds two hammocks and a swing chair for guests use.
The 13m pool is 1.4m deep and will shortly be converted into a salt water pool. The pool may be shared by guests renting the other houses, however, Brahma House has it’s own privacy.
Hati Suci has been built with a conscious effort towards sustainability and permaculture. We have a passive solar water heating system, non chemical waste water treatment, rain catchment and gardens that are chemical free.
The Garden consists of vegetable gardens, herb areas, newly planted fruit trees and tropical planting. Any produce is available for your personal use. It is an ever evolving work in progress. There is also a fish pond, integral to the waste water system. Our gardeners take pride in this project based on permaculture principles. Flowers, butterflies and birds are plentiful.
Wi-Fi Internet is included (please bring your own laptop or tablet).
PLEASE NOTE: This property is on the edge of living, working rice fields and jungle and there are creatures around. The property is thoroughly cleaned daily (including the beds stripped and swept), but the odd ant, frog, lizard or other local creature may encroach on occasion. If you are squeamish, sensitive or have any kind of aversion to such a possibility, then we highly recommend you choose another of the Bali locations that is not so much a part of the natural environment. We do not have AC, and choose to take advantage of the natural breezes.
PETS: John and Barbara are the two cats at Hati Suci. They are effective and necessary in keeping some wildlife out of the houses. Affectionate yet independent they are part of the rental. Our staff will take care of their needs. We ask that you treat them with respect.
We have easy access by motorbike or car (taxi services can be arranged) to Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali. The 20 minute drive is breathtaking, winding through the jungle, rice fields, river valleys and several traditional villages.
Ubud abounds with restaurants, shops, spas, yoga, cooking, batik and art classes along with many healing modalities. It has several art galleries and a museum. Evenings offer Balinese dance performances, Fire ceremonies and Gamelan.
We are a one and a half hour drive from the airport, one hour from the nearest beaches and half an hour from Kintamani, which is on the edge of the volcano, Mount Batur.
Hati Suci and the surrounding rice fields themselves are in a unique and tranquil setting. Higher than Ubud towards the foothills of the volcano, it is tropical but not as hot as the beach areas. There are fewer mosquitoes but wildlife is abundant.
Hati Suci has a manager, cleaner and gardener. Laundry can be done for an additional fee. Also some local restaurants deliver to the house, menus are provided.
Currently, access to the property is via a 4 minute walk along the rice field path, which is maintained regularly but is made of earth. It is beautiful, authentic, used daily by local rice farmers but it is uneven, unlit and we think unsuitable for elderly or infirm visitors.
A permanent brick path is planned but as yet not completed.
The swimming pool is a shared area between guests as is the pool Bale (covered seating area), and garden shelter.
Interaction with Guests
There is daily cleaning, pool maintenance and gardening included. Our manager will be at hand and we provide an Indonesian mobile with useful numbers and manager contact for your use (with a deposit of 100,000 Rupiah)(Approximately $10USD). Daily offerings are made at the houses and temples on the land by our Balinese help. Should you want complete privacy at any time, then we will fully respect that, just please let us know, however, offerings have to be accommodated at some time most days. The latest time for the staff to come is 11 am (they need 2 full hours to clean the house), otherwise they will come the following day, or whenever is convenient for you.
The village we are located in is traditional, and in it's own way, unique. There are views from the land towards Mount Agung and one of the major water temples of Tirta Empul is 4 kilometres away in Tampaksiring. There are local warungs (eating places) in the village and a large traditional market selling fruit, vegetables and livestock in nearby Pujung. We have a growing number of more western style restaurants a short ride away and small local shops selling daily essentials are close. We are about 20 minutes by scooter or car from Ubud where there are hundreds of restaurants, spas, yoga schools, great shopping and a large vibrant daily market.
Scooters are our preferred method of getting around. They are cheap, and beat the traffic in the larger towns. We have several motorbikes for rent at competitive prices of 50,000 Rupiah (approx. $5USD) per day or 500,000 (approx. $50USD) per month. We also have a number of bicycles for use by the more energetic guests. Cycling through the winding local lanes can be a beautiful way to see the island and our surroundings.
We also have at hand several local taxi drivers some of whom speak excellent English. Tours can be arranged through our manager if you wish.
We advise guests to bring with them International Driving Permits as the local Police often perform spot checks.
Other Things to Note
We've already said it but John and Barbara are the two resident cats that live here, with whoever is hosting. They are friendly and efficient at keeping unwanted small animals out of the house and our staff will feed them. We are sorry but their residency is non negotiable. Thank you.
We welcome you and ask that you agree to these few requests before sharing our lovely property.
The rental includes our manager, there is a cleaner and gardener, and the house has in them many of our personal belongings.
1. On arrival there is a 10% service/gratuity fee to be paid.
2. We suggest you bring a photocopy of your passport, it is required by law that all visitors be registered, and this will eliminate the need for your actual passport to be taken to the police station.
3. Please feel free to read our books, but please let them stay when you leave us!
4. If you want to use a local cell phone we require a 100,000 rupiah payment per phone (around $10USD), per stay, non refundable, plus the cost of minutes used. An accounting of this will be kept. Phones already have useful numbers listed for you.
5. There is unlimited Internet access included with the house. Please be patient, Bali is not a first world country and occasionally internet lapses for short periods.
6. This is a safe area, however we are not responsible for any valuables left in the house. There is a strong secure safe in each bedroom, please keep your travel documents, money, laptops and any other valuables in there.
7. Our staff are of course the most important consideration, and we ask that you treat them with kindness and respect. Their duties are specific and include: Cleaning the house. Maintaining the garden and pool. Shopping for household requirements
The staff will be available at the house for approximately 2 hours per day, in the morning, unless prior arrangements are made with them.
The staff have their own families and commitments to the temple and community. If it is not convenient that they clean during their usual hours, then they will come the following day
The staff are not paid or obligated to do anything beyond this, so kindly reimburse them financially for anything additional you ask them to do, and that they agree to, such as staying late, changing their hours, cooking meals, washing or mending your clothes, baby sitting, driving you anywhere on their motor-bikes, or running errands unrelated to the required shopping.
If you require laundry service, they can do this for you, or there is a local laundry with the same rates of charge and fast service. An information sheet with itemised prices is in the house.
You will be provided with one large towel per person per stay/week and one pool towel per person, if you require extras we will be happy to provide them for the posted laundry rates.
Please make any and all arrangements for additional services through our manager.
If you require any food shopping in advance of your arrival, please let us know; a detailed accounting will be provided for you, and you can pay for this at check-in.
Please note: one storage room is kept locked with the owners personal belongings. Access is not permitted to paying guests.
The staff have every Sunday off, however if you arrive or leave on a Sunday then we will of course make arrangements to fully accommodate you. Please be respectful if any of the staff, on occasion, need time off for ceremonies, these are a very important part of village life.
We have a couple of automatic scooters that can be rented for 50,000 (approximately $5USD) rupiah a day, 30,000 for any amount of time less than 4 hours, or 500,000 rupiah (approximately $50USD) a month.
If you would like any of the staff to take you around the local area on their motor-bike, the cost is 50,000 rupiah (Approximately $5USD) per hour (min 50,000 rupiah, (approximately $5USD)
Also if you require any personal errands run: the charge is 50,000 rupiah per hour, approximately $5USD (with a 1hr minimum).
We are in the middle of the working rice fields and, occasionally, usually for brief amounts of time, there can be issues with the electricity or internet. Please be patient and understanding when this happens, it is a small price to pay for being in such a magical spot.
Our water supply is stored rain water with emergency top up through piped spring water. Our manager and gardener will monitor supplies.
Toilet and bathroom waste is managed through an organic waste water system using worms. Please never use bleach or strong chemicals, although the system copes with normal shampoos and soaps. Please use the bins provided for toilet paper. Thank you.
Also, the area is teeming with birds and wildlife, occasionally these creatures might "trespass" ... they have no idea of what man-made boundaries mean. The staff clean thoroughly daily, so be assured we move them on and there are no actual "residents".
Please let us know if you need airport pick-up; we have local drivers who charge exactly the going taxi rate for this service. Also we have plenty of referrals for other reliable drivers, car or motorbike rentals, and excellent reasonably priced massage therapists, manicurists etc. who can be scheduled at the property. Massage beds are available at the property.
What an amazing Bali experience we had at Hati Suci. The hosts gave you everything you need to feel and act like a local. Everyone involved went above and beyond the norm to make our stay as comfortable as possible while also giving us the freedom to do as we please. I will highly recommend staying here to anyone who wants to enjoy the best Bali can offer.
We stayed at Hati Suci for four nights and fell in love with the beautiful property! It is a very peaceful and quiet place in the middle of rice paddys. The whole property is absolutely magic (just look at the pictures)! Everyone has been very welcoming and friendly!
We loved the cottage with its beautiful bedroom, terrace with rice paddy-views, open kitchen/dining area and the outdoor bathroom. There is a little vegetable garden that we really enjoyed! Had some handpicked veggies every day for breakfast/lunch/dinner.
If you are looking for some quiet time away from the touristy areas of Bali this is the place to stay! You can take the bicycles and cycle through the rice fields to some great temples without having to take a driver to show you around.
The people in the nearby village were really friendly as well.
The two cats are adorable!
Would love to come back some day!
