An idyllic secluded retreat far from everyday buzz yet on Siena's doorstep and a short ride from Florence and the seafront. No real rush here. Private converted barn for up to 10 guests, with exclusive pool overlooking the rolling Tuscan hills.
Montechiaro Wine Estates is a historic stately home where you can still experience the old Chianti lifestyle as it once was, slow and calm just like 300 years ago. A private idyllic retreat for the discerning traveller who wants to leave it all behind and find peace. Here, a 10th generation family still patiently grows organic grapes and olive trees.
The main Villa was built in 1760 and is still inhabited by its original owners, who preserved most of its ancient features whilst modernising the art of welcoming their discerning guests.
The Wine Estate villas are on the same grounds. You will be staying in ancient buildings that were passionately renovated just two years ago, which offer a breath-taking view of the medieval town of Siena. The historic centre is just a 15 minute drive away. No real rush here. You will take the time to breath the seasons passing by through the wild flowers' scent. You can witness mesmerising sunsets over manicured grass leading to your private pool. The Villa grounds, the orchid gardens, the ancient greenhouse, the vineyards, the cellar and the old oil mill, the original wooden oven, la Signora Beppina and her hen house, everything here is still run in the authentic Chianti way.
The Villa can be reserved entirely by groups, families, for that special weekend, or a company retreat.

Montechiaro was without a doubt the highlight of our honeymoon month in Italy. Allesandro was a most gracious host, the property exceeded our expectations, our time there was precious and exciting.
We were privileged to have dinner with Mario, the butcher down the street, and lasagna prepared by Pepina, an 83-year-old vivacious woman who remembers the liberation of Italy by the allies in World War II.
Ordering the fridge stocking is a must. You will arrive to an enormous basket filled with fruits and vegetables from the Monteciaro garden, as well as eggs from their chickens and most important, a bottle of Monteciaro wine and virgin olive oil. We are already planning our return to this Tuscany paradise.
We were so excited for our stay at Monte Chiaro, and it still managed to exceed our expectations! Alessandro and his family were incredibly easy to communicate with, responding to our questions quickly and providing good information prior to our stay. They welcomed us when we arrived and showed us around the villa and made sure we were comfortable. They even surprised us by having milk in the refrigerator for our baby (I had called to make sure they had a refrigerator so we could bring some for him, but they took care of it for us!)
The listing is very accurate and the views are even more spectacular in person. I highly recommend the wine tasting (12 euro/pp), as Alessandro provides appetizers to enjoy with the wine and does an excellent job with explaining the wine, the process, and giving a tour of their beautiful grounds.
I also highly recommend the personal chefs who will come and cook dinner for you in your villa. The two ladies were incredibly sweet and very passionate about sharing Tuscan and Italian dishes with us. With the views from the villa, and not having to worry about a designated driver, it was really a great decision.
Also recommend bringing a few things to stock in the refrigerator/kitchen. They have an American coffee maker, so bring some coffee so you are all set in the morning. The estate is a little drive from Siena, so for convenience it's best to have some things immediately available.
Overall, very highly recommend a stay here! We will be back!
My fiancé and I, stayed two nights here. The view from our room and from the back patio of the villa of the rolling Tuscany hills was breath taking. Pictures truly do not do it justice. We did the wine tasting with Alessandro, we both enjoyed it because you can tell how passionate he is about the wine. We also did the private dinner, probably the best meal we had during our trip. The women who cooked for us were a delight. Alessandro's father, Francisco showed us around.
If you plan to stay here, please be aware this is a real working vineyard and they can be in a million places at one time. I recommend getting a couple bottles of the Primum Vinum, it is an outstanding wine.
I highly recommend staying here and the price for the private dinner, is well worth it and you will not regret it.
The property was amazing! The directions to the property were correct and easy to understand. Alessandro escorted us to the actual villa itself, after meeting us at the main house. There was some small confusion about picking up/dropping off keys, and the property wasn't completely ready for us when we got there, but the view and the amenities more than made up for it (the fireplace was great!). Alessandro also gave us some really good restaurant recommendations and was very pleasant to deal with. I only wish we had more time there, and I plan on coming back next year.
Just upon arriving you can see that the pictures were not enough to capture the beauty of the place. We had a little trouble coordinating our checkin but all the family (Alessandro, Chiara, Francesco and Maria Eugenia) was extremely attentive and aware to help us. They gave us the whole cabana overlooking Siena. Amazing, wished we could be there in summer. Sunsets are spectacular. Truly recommend having a picnic in the garden just enjoying the place. Also, dont dare go to Montechiaro and not try Nonna Beppina's lasagna and the Malvanese Nera wine. On our stay, the whole family was also very helpful booking restaurants (by their suggestion, and probably the best meals we had in Italy) or coordinating anything we required. Beds & bathroom very clean and high quality. Will recommend it as a must to everyone who wants to visit Tuscany.
This place was incredible, and my favorite place during my trip to Italy. Alessandro was out of town while we were there, but he we able to set up everything with his father Francesco and his wife. The wine tasting we had upon arrival was great and very interesting. We also did the private dinner, the two ladies, Sandra and Sabrina were amazing cooks and fun women to be around. This was definitely the best meal we had during our trip and well worth the money. I would recommend doing it if you get the chance. They were so accommodating.
Also because my girlfriend and I didn't have a car, Francesco was so kind to provide us with a ride to the wine tasting and even gave us a little tour of the Siena the next day before letting us explore on our own.
The villa was very nice and clean and surroundings were very pretty. I enjoyed walking up the roads taking in the scenery, I just wish it was warm enough for the pool to have been open. I highly recommend staying here, because of the wonderful family that runs it and the location and place itself.
Where to begin?? World class treatment and a stay that I will be talking about for the rest of my life. First I must say, Francesco and Alessandro went above and beyond to accommodate me and ensure I was comfortable. They really made me feel like a vip guest. I can't thank them enough (graze mille!) The accommodations were better than expected. When you stay at Montechiaro, please go eat at "Marios" it is literally eating at the farm and an experience you won't find any place else. Even if your vegan you'll enjoy yourself. Also request to have the "two cooks" Sandra e Sabrina come cook for you at the villa. Not only will they cook you an outstanding Tuscan meal, they will make you feel like your eating at their home kitchen.
Montechiaro first class from top to bottom and I will be back!
