An idyllic secluded retreat far from everyday buzz yet on Siena's doorstep and a short ride from Florence and the seafront. No real rush here. Private converted barn for up to 10 guests, with exclusive pool overlooking the rolling Tuscan hills.
Montechiaro Wine Estates is a historic stately home where you can still experience the old Chianti lifestyle as it once was, slow and calm just like 300 years ago. A private idyllic retreat for the discerning traveller who wants to leave it all behind and find peace. Here, a 10th generation family still patiently grows organic grapes and olive trees.
The main Villa was built in 1760 and is still inhabited by its original owners, who preserved most of its ancient features whilst modernising the art of welcoming their discerning guests.
The Wine Estate villas are on the same grounds. You will be staying in ancient buildings that were passionately renovated just two years ago, which offer a breath-taking view of the medieval town of Siena. The historic centre is just a 15 minute drive away. No real rush here. You will take the time to breath the seasons passing by through the wild flowers' scent. You can witness mesmerising sunsets over manicured grass leading to your private pool. The Villa grounds, the orchid gardens, the ancient greenhouse, the vineyards, the cellar and the old oil mill, the original wooden oven, la Signora Beppina and her hen house, everything here is still run in the authentic Chianti way.
The Villa can be reserved entirely by groups, families, for that special weekend, or a company retreat.

Fantastic stay at the house. I would improve the beds though for future use and not charge so much for the use of the fireplace. Other than that, the hosts were wonderful and set us up on several wine tastings and restaurants. We loved it here, great escape.
Dear Brad, thanks for staying! New beds and mattresses are on their way! The €16 daily charge is simply to cover the actual cost of the wood for the fireplace and kitchen cleaning, given your non.-exclusive villa rental. We'll specify better next time. Many thanks again for your feedback, we really appreciate it!
My friend and I stayed at Montechiaro and had a wonderful time. Alessandro and Chiara were both very helpful and responsive in answering questions before and during our stay. Rain and shine the area is beautiful. Very relaxing and homey.
Taxi from Siena is about EUR22. Renting a car is a good idea to not have to rely on that as there isn't much within walking distance (two restaurants that are both more by appointment). Marios for dinner was amazing and if you stay you must try to go.
We also did a lovely wine tasting with Alessandro and had a great time.
We had a bit of difficulty checking in as we didn't have European numbers and no wifi to connect. Make sure you settle all arrangements before arriving as you are staying in their villa/guesthouse and it isn't marked.
We would definitely go back.
This was the most beautiful place we have ever been! The views were breathtaking and it was such a relaxing, gorgeous place to relax and take it all in.
The villa had everything we needed. It was incredibly comfortable and spacious. The breakfast baskets were AMAZING and more food than you could ever eat.
Alessandro and Chiara were incredibly welcoming. DEFINITELY make sure you enjoy the wine tasting and tour and dinner at Mario's. You won't be sorry. Staying at the Villa on the vineyard was one of our favorite memories during our 2 week holiday in Italy.
We will definitely be back!
The location of this Villa could not have been any better. Out in the country but yet only about 6 km from Siena. In fact, we could see Siena from the rooms. The villa had about 6 or 7 rooms but we were lucky in the it was kind of the end of the season and we are another couple traveling with us had the place to ourselves. Alessandro, the owner of the estate is an organic wine maker. When we arrived we were treated to a tour of the facility along with the wine making area, garden, lemonaria and grounds. Chiara checked us in and the whole time we were there was so helpful with recommendations and making sure we were comfortable. The villa is within walking distance of one restaurant at a private home but other that that, you would have to drive. We actually went into town to the Penny Market and bought supplies and cooked a couple simple meals in the kitchen which was very well stocked. Nonna Beppina is an 80 something grandmother there on the estate. She has been there for many years and has a garden onsite and cooks a mean pan of lasagna! She also can start a fire like no one I have seen. Such a treasure. The only regret is that we did not get to do wine tasting with Alessandro. We were offered on our arrival but were very tired and anxious to get settled. After that, we just didn't get the time. Alessandro has won many awards for his wine and is a Sommelier and has a degree in food. He has a great place to relax and will have meals cooked if you arrange it. Don't miss this place if you visit Tuscany. It is very central to do day trips to other areas. We went to Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena, Lucca. Thank you Alessandro and Chiara for a great stay!
Alessandro and Chiara are fantastic hosts! From the huge colourful, delicious breakfasts and the vast collection of wine, Montechiaro is a haven! Alessandro and Chiara endeavour to make your time in Siena as personal and as memorable as possible. The villa that we stayed in is stunning and extremely spacious. The view from my upstairs room looked over the vineyard all the way to Siena itself.
Please immerse yourself in the life of the vineyard. Say hello to Nonna Beppina who has lived on the property for 58 years! She is a legend and the best cook in Italy! The wine tasting is brilliant and very worth while. Alessandro has a real passion for fine easy drinking wine, my favourite was the Malvasia Nera.
If you love delicious food then listen to the hosts suggestions. The local farm house serves amazing steak and La Logge in Siena is a feast of pasta with truffles!
Siena is a delight and Alessandro's home in Montechiaro is the perfect place to explore it from!
We will definitely be back for a visit.
This place is truly incredible. Typical reviews of airbnb locations and hosts generally rave of how great the place was but this honestly was one of a kind. The location is beautiful, peaceful, and it really is idyllic.
Alessandro is kind and helpful. He and his family will go out of their way, beyond your expectations to ensure you have a great stay. We wish we would have stayed longer and highly recommended basing your Tuscan vacation here. Siena is only a 15 minute car drive away, and many of the other major towns are close too.
The property is a beautiful estate and the room we stayed in is in an old yet fully updated building on the property. The property is a working vineyard, and Alessandro makes his own wine. We joined him and some other guests on a tour and wine tasting. His wine really is good and very reasonably priced, we bought a couple of bottles.
There is also great food and restaurants in the area. Alessandro will offer suggestions and will make you reservations as needed. We highly recommend having dinner at Mario's Machetti's and La Pietra Via.
Our room had a beautiful view of the Valley and Siena in the distance. The terrace on the apartment is great for evening and night time relaxation. We watched the sun set behind the distance buildings in Siena several times. The room and bathroom we spacious and the house had a shared common area and kitchen.
There are several different buildings and rooms on the property all with their different perks. I recommend conversing with Alessandro to make sure the room and location you reserve meets all your requirements.
