About This Listing
An idyllic secluded retreat far from everyday buzz yet on Siena's doorstep and a short ride from Florence and the seafront. No real rush here. Private converted barn for up to 10 guests, with exclusive pool overlooking the rolling Tuscan hills.
Montechiaro Wine Estates is a historic stately home where you can still experience the old Chianti lifestyle as it once was, slow and calm just like 300 years ago. A private idyllic retreat for the discerning traveller who wants to leave it all behind and find peace. Here, a 10th generation family still patiently grows organic grapes and olive trees.
The main Villa was built in 1760 and is still inhabited by its original owners, who preserved most of its ancient features whilst modernising the art of welcoming their discerning guests.
The Wine Estate villas are on the same grounds. You will be staying in ancient buildings that were passionately renovated just two years ago, which offer a breath-taking view of the medieval town of Siena. The historic centre is just a 15 minute drive away. No real rush here. You will take the time to breath the seasons passing by through the wild flowers' scent. You can witness mesmerising sunsets over manicured grass leading to your private pool. The Villa grounds, the orchid gardens, the ancient greenhouse, the vineyards, the cellar and the old oil mill, the original wooden oven, la Signora Beppina and her hen house, everything here is still run in the authentic Chianti way.
The Villa can be reserved entirely by groups, families, for that special weekend, or a company retreat.

Everything about the house and vineyard was exactly how it was in the pictures! We were 8 adults with 2 kids and a baby. The house was perfect for the amount of people and each room had their own bathroom.
Alessandro and his family were very welcoming and helped arranged dinners and wine tastings for us. They were very accommodating while dealing with my families many requests.
I would recommend having Beppina cook a dinner for your group while there. She lives on property and cooks with things grown on site. The food was so delicious and really was a one of a kind experience! We also had a great brunch cooked for us by Sabrina which Chiara arranged for us. The food was so unique and yummy. Basically book both of these chefs!
The location is perfect and the views are amazing. You don't need to plan much as you can stay on the property and enjoy all it has to offer. The house is about a 15/20 minute drive from Sienna.
This really is a great place to bring friends or family for a memorable trip!
We had the best stay ever at the house, which was even better than our expectations. The surroundings are magical, situated on a wine estate, and Chiara helped us to book horse riding, chef one evening, dinner at the nearby farmer, as well as a small wine tasting with Allessandro. Also, after a summer storm with hail, we got help cleaning up in the house. We were ten in total including one child. We rented cars but enjoyed a lot of time by the private pool before lunch and in the late afternoons, also using the barbecue. I'm forever grateful for this magical stay.
The entire Griccioli family made us feel so very welcome. Alessandro, Chiara and Evgenia were warm, caring and efficient. We had the complete villa for our family and it looks better than the photos. The view is amazing, the bathrooms modern and the living room was comfortable, especially with a fire crackling in the fireplace to warm us during the unseasonably cool days. We enjoyed a fabulous celebratory dinner cooked by Sandra and Sabrina, complete with a gluten free birthday cake, yummy strawberry whipped cream!! The kitchen is equipped with basic supplies but bring your own coffee and paper towels. Extra wine glasses were provided for the party and Chiara set a beautiful mood with candles and flowers. Also, stocking the fridge at least once during your stay gives you fresh eggs, cheese, honey etc. A great wine tour and tasting by Alessandro -a truly lovely experience. Our hosts made great recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. Highly recommended!
Listing was great. The view of Siena and the countryside is among the best in the area I am sure. The crew did a great job providing information ahead of our arrival, including many suggestions on where to eat, shop, etc. as well as information on a variety of other available services. If you are considering this place, I recommend that you book it.
From looking at the pictures it may seem that this place is a little more set apart from other units than it is (of the 9 of us, all thought this). Upon arrival we found that it is actually quite close to several other occupied buildings. This was not a problem and did not effect privacy but might be helpful in setting your expectations.
If you have a large groups as we did, I'd also recommend that you look at the floor plan closely to make sure everyone will fit comfortably.
It is a beautiful place that truly represents all that is perfect about Tuscany. The hosts are warm and generous people. In short we could not recommend the place more.
There is literally not enough good things I can say about Monte Chiaro. From the family that runs it, to the amazing view, to all the additional things Alessandro and Chiara will help you set up - it's literally the most amazing place I've ever been lucky enough to visit. I would recommend taking advantage of their local knowledge, we went to a nearby farmer's restaurant for dinner and it was probably one of our favorite memories. Mario's is amazing, and even though we didn't speak much Italian, we were made to feel like family. Their dogs Bart and Lola seriously stole a part of our hearts. Would also highly recommend having Sabrina prepare a meal for you, she made us an AMAZING brunch our first morning, we were admittedly VERY hungover and slow moving, she was patient and friendly and the food was absolutely divine. If you are lucky enough to stay there, don't waste a moment inside. We spent almost 18 hours a day just hanging on the back patio and soaking in the wine and the view. I love Monte Chiaro and hope to return many many many times...
