Our Kaimu neighborhood is a secret piece of paradise that we sometime refer to as our little bit of sunshine coast. There are only four other homes on our road and they are occupied by the owners, our very kind and good neighbors.
From the lanai, the views are breathtaking with a backdrop of the giant ocean waves splashing up against the old lava flow, amongst the lush green flora. A five minute walk across the old, amazing lava field takes you the ocean where you'll see giant sea turtles year-round and whales from December through May!
We are a 10-minute walk to the local and well-known Uncle Robert's Awa Bar where you'll find live, authentic Hawaiian music, dances and open air markets. Be sure to put Uncle Robert's on your to-do list, it is a very welcoming environment.
Also be sure to get to the amazing Maku'u farmer's market on Sunday morning! Maku’u farmers market is one of the largest, located off Highway 130 in Puna district, between Kea’au and Pahoa. Only a 25-minute drive from Hilo, you will enjoy the wonderful sounds, sights and tastes of this unique local market. The friendly vendors and customers at this market reflect the true image of a laid back and extremely diverse Puna community.
Pahoa was just ranked as one of the "Best Small Town Downtowns in America" See #26 on this site: (website hidden)
There is no reliable public transportation. Renting a car is your best bet and we have good referrals for car rental just a mile from the airport. We will send you directions when you make a reservation. There is plenty of parking at the house.
Other Things to Note
Aloha and welcome to our beautiful Halé on the Big Island of Hawai’i. We are the owners, Derryn & Angela Ziebol and were married last year on our land in Kaimu. Both of us are professional Sign Language Interpreters and have a one-year old son. We also own a travel business, DnA Travels, LLC and can assist you with your travel needs.
We are conscientious home owners, always improving and caring for our Hawaiian halé. Located so close to the ocean presents challenges so we have chosen the best house keepers, maintenance workers and a great property manager to keep our home in excellent shape for our guests to enjoy. We have several family members living in Pahoa year-round who are always willing to assist guests, and our neighbors are pretty great, too!
Your feedback and suggestions are important to us, so please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve your stay at Kalapana Shores. As well, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
We ask you to always remember that Hawai’i is just a very small, fragile dot on the map of the world. Where you go, please go lightly with love and care for the precious things that give the people of Hawai’i their heritage.
No Pets ~ No Smoking Inside ~ No exceptions. Explore, enjoy the Aloha spirit, inhale the beauty, exhale relaxation.
This house is beautiful, we liked the upstairs the best, sitting outside on the lanai while the sun went down was great. Very comfortable and clean, and Angela was so helpful with everything from start to finish. We loved the area and was able to visit about everything we wanted to see. The lava walk out to the beach was an experience we will never forget. If you are there on a Wednesday don't miss out on Uncle Roberts Kalapana farmers market on Wednesday nights from 5pm-10pm. It was so much fun, Uncle Roberts bar, music, dancing, food and a lot of booths with area produce, jewlery, t shirts, and homemade items, etc. The price is great for all the house had to offer, the location was perfect and we would definetly come back again
This rental home is a lovely place to stay! We used both floors since we were 8 people and everything was exactly as described and shown on the photos. Would go there again. Great!
The host was very accommodating and available when needed. Some of the information in order to access house was missing from airbnb site, and they were able to email it right away. However, the description for the listing on airbnb was misrepresented as entire home, we had booked for 5 and when a 6th could come we didn't think anything of it as the price for home was not dependent on number of guests. We were surprised to find out they had us down for just top level of home, not entire home as listed. They were flexible to let us use the downstairs minimally.
There was some road noise, but the proximity to the ocean and market were great and the grounds are beautiful.
Very nice place In a beautiful neighborhood. The hot tub was nice, there are gorgeous lava fields nearby, and it is close to the ocean. The hosts were extremely responsive to changes in plans and getting into the property was a breeze. The only issue I had is that there is a bit of road noise in the master bedroom. Other than that it was great.
