About This Listing
An idyllic secluded retreat far from everyday buzz yet on Siena's doorstep and a short ride from Florence and the seafront. No real rush here. Private converted barn for up to 8 guests, with exclusive pool overlooking between olive trees.
Montechiaro Wine Estates is a historic stately home where you can still experience the old Chianti lifestyle as it once was, slow and calm just like 300 years ago. A private idyllic retreat for the discerning traveller who wants to leave it all behind and find peace. Here, a 10th generation family still patiently grows organic grapes and olive trees.
The main Villa was built in 1760 and is still inhabited by its original owners, who preserved most of its ancient features whilst modernising the art of welcoming their discerning guests.
The Wine Estate villas are on the same grounds. You will be staying in ancient buildings that were passionately renovated just two years ago, which overlook the enchanting vineyards and rolling Tuscan hills. The historic centre is just a 15 minute drive away. No real rush here. You will take the time to breath the seasons passing by through the wild flowers' scent. You can witness mesmerising sunsets over manicured grass leading to your private pool. The Villa grounds, the orchid gardens, the ancient greenhouse, the vineyards, the cellar and the old oil mill, the original wooden oven, la Signora Beppina and her hen house, everything here is still run in the authentic Chianti way.
The Villa La Capannina can be reserved entirely by groups, families, for that special weekend, or a company retreat.

We were made to feel very welcome by Alessandro, and his mother and father. We didn't get to meet Chiara, but she was constantly in contact by email, and wanting to assist with any enquiry. The location is excellent, with all the facilities you need for a short or extended stay. Our villa was just wonderful, with our own private pool. The scenery can only be described as stunning.
Beautiful country with an equally beautiful home. Alessandro was kind enough to do a little private tour and wine tasting which was amazing. All in all great experience
We were very disappointed with our stay here. Leading up to the trip, the communication was poor. When we got there, the apartment was not the advertised apartment, smelled like mold and was freezing. The heat never really kicked on the whole time we were there. We were never given the internet information so we could not access it. We also partially booked this property for the washing machine, but it did not work (hard when you don't have any clean clothes left). There was also mouse poop around the pull out bed, which is not great when you have a baby who puts everything in his mouth. Alessandro was very nice when we met him in the morning and his mother did give a great restaurant recommendation and made reservations for us when we arrived. We did happen to arrive on Easter, which may have played somewhat into the above issues. We'd give it a 1-star if it weren't for the restaurant help and friendliness, 2-stars.
I am sorry to read about issues that were never brought up to our attention during your stay . Apologies if we were not as immediately responsive as always. Easter is the busiest day of the year. We had been working non-stop at our cellar from the early morning till late at night. Unfortunately phone and internet reception is poor there. You had your internet credentials in your welcome booklet. Every house is professionally cleaned before every guest's arrival, and checked by a second member of staff. Had you mentioned any issue upon arrival we would have immediately changed villa for you. We thought an entirely private apartment would have been the best solution for you with two toddlers compared to a room in a shared Vineyard Villa. You seemed happy with the offer. Even if we had known it in the morning, we would have issued a full refund. The property you stayed at has now been taken off the market.
Our stay at montechiaro was wonderful, only too short!! Chiara was wonderful from the moment we arrived, extremely responsive at any time of day or night and so willing to help with any and all requests. We even had an extra person staying with us unexpectedly the first night and the staff at montechiaro were so obliging and accommodated this immediately with just a very fair extra person fee.
The house was clean and very comfortable, the views were beautiful and the whole experience was so peaceful and (website hidden) e pictures on airbnb are accurate and the email that Alessandro sends out upon booking is completely accurate. I had tried to get the group of people I was with organized for the wine and estate tour of montechiaro, unfortunately we just didn't have enough time, that is my one regret!
There was some confusion with the advertisement stating that shampoo and basics would be available, which I mistook and assumed to mean toiletries, but as soon as I reached out to Chiara, she was quick to help me with this.
I loved staying at montechiaro and would recommend it to anyone staying in the area, it is so charming.
This place is paradise. From the moment we got there my friends and I wished we had booked a longer stay. The vineyard is completely breathtaking. The house we stayed in was gorgeous and cozy. everything was set up for us including dinner reservations and cabs. We also had lunch one day at a nearby farm which I highly recommend. They even left us with coffee and biscuits for breakfast. Most of all though I recommend the wine tastings. The wine is spectacular and Alessandro does an amazing job describing each one. The stories behind each wine make them taste even better. I couldn't resist coming home with a couple bottles. If you want an amazing and relaxing stay with beautiful views, delicious wine and food, this is definitely the place to go.
Both Chiara & Alessandro made us feel very welcome. We were somewhat challenged with the directions BUT did get there. I am not sure if they were quite ready for us…key was missing as well as a few other miscel things(TP, soap, dish towels) - all was remedied! As well as a lovely basket of fresh eggs, bread, fruit, vegetables, biscuits etc.
The scenery was wonderful - overlooking a new vineyard.
Chiara helped with booking a reservation for dinner & a horseback outing as well as other fabulous recommendations…very relaxing! WiFi very spotty!
My wife and I had a wonderful time here. It's quiet and serene. Great place to get away from the crowds! We would definitely stay again!
