We’ve been back for a few days from our great 9-day stay at the bungalow in Hermosa Beach. We brought our 6 yr old daughter, and she loved the large pool and the kids her age who showed up there from time to time. The small bungalow community has a nice mix of friendly / quiet neighbours, some permanent residents and some tourists. I’m sure people do have parties, but we never heard any. The unit itself backs onto open land, a mix of jungle and farmland, home to a huge variety of birds, including bright red parrots, and other wildlife. One night we were woken up by what might have been a howler monkey. Our daughter loved spotting all the little animals in the deck area under the home at night - lizards, toads, crabs, etc.
The drive to Jaco is about 10 minutes. A cab costs about $8-9. If you walk along the gorgeous beach toward Jaco, you are a 2km walk (about 15 min) from a tiny little highway town-ette (Playa Hermosa) that has a few good restaurants and bars as well as a ’super’ (convenience store). There's a surf competition there every Sat. evening. We walked back from here along the beach on a very dark night. Nothing happened, but we probably wouldn’t do it again. It was my second visit to the country, and I knew the Costa Rican people would knock us out with their friendliness and hospitality. They did. They are beautiful people.
About the bungalow itself - it was exactly as pictured, and very well equipped. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in with nearly everything you would need. Great cookware and most utensils. Wifi was very reliable and (website hidden) has cable - lots of channels, some in English (CNN, NBC, etc.) AC blows cold in the bedrooms but not too great in the rest of the home, but with some adjustments you will be very comfortable.
We loved our stay in the bungalow and would recommend to anyone, including families.
The Playa Hermosa bungalow was perfect! The place was clean, well-stoked and located right next to the beach... the water temp. was 86 degrees. Finding the place from San Jose was simple, check-in was great, and everyone around the place was friendly and welcoming and down for a good time. My group especially loved all the iguanas that hangout by the pool and on the grass.
Overall, I definitely recommend staying with Kelly at this bungalow. It could not be more perfect. Taxis into Jaco were ~15 each way, but one of my friends who is fluent in Spanish made friends with a driver and we got discounts all week! Kelly was extremely helpful via email to ensure we got everything set up, and she put me in touch with locals who helped book extra adventures.
Can't be more thankful for this stay and look forward to coming back!
The house is great. It has everything you need and the pool keeps kids happy all day. Great experience!
I can't give a review of the place as we had problems with passports and vaccines since we were leaving for Costa Rica from a stay in Colombia. We didn't know that if you spend time in Colombia, Costa Rica requires that you get a Yellow Fever vaccine 10 days prior to your arrival. We found this out at the airport and were turned back. Because of this we cancelled less than 24 hours in advance for our week long stay there. We apologized for this and explained the reason for canceling to the host and said that while we did not expect a full refund because of the short notice cancellation that if we could at least get some of our money back we would greatly appreciate it. Changing our plane tickets because of this took out a good change of our vacation budget. We were quickly informed that we would not get any of our money back because it the booking was done during the high season. So buyer beware, although the listing states that cancelations are flexible, it would seem they are intact not flexible at all.
This a great place to stay for a relaxing vacation with friends and family. Beautiful location right across from a spectacular beach, and a very nice bungalow. Everything works perfectly and it's an easy trip from San Jose airport to reach this destination. Nothing negative at all about it. It is a location that is best to have a vehicle with you, as the restaurants and markets are a bit of distance away.
Relaxing experience...awesome location Kelly was an amazing host...great amenities it feels like home welcoming comfortable and beautiful definitely recommended for those looking for a nice place to stay looking forward to spend few more nights next time :)
