About This Listing
Secluded, spacious studio villa nestled between flowing water, jungle and rice fields - Bali at its best!
Nestled in the rice fields of Tegalalang district in central Bali is Talidandan Villa, just 5 kilometers north of Ubud. Designed by famed Dutch architect, Joost Van Grieken this warm minimalist design combines the stark simplicity of Japan with the open tropical refreshment of Bali. The villa is surrounded by a jungle, river, hill and rice fields of Gianyar Regency, the cultural and artistic center of Bali Island. Set a bit apart from the owner’s pavilions, the cottage is a 100 m2 self-contained 1-room unit with its own entrance, veranda, kitchen, shower and a shared 13-meter swimming pool. This is an ideal place for 1 or 2 persons who want a quiet retreat, away from busy city life. The villa has been featured in architectural publications.
Elegantly furnished in a warm Japanese/Balinese style, the house has an option of twin or double beds, complete with night reading lamps. In addition there is a dining table, 3-person sofa and large closet with a combination safe. The room includes both ceiling and floor fans, wi-fi, and a music system with ipod connector. The kitchen is completely equipped for cooking. The bathroom has a toilet, sink, 2 mirrors and a strong hot/cold shower. The balcony has a small table/chairs for 2 and a sofa and coffee table. The balcony overlooks a jungle garden and the swimming pool is accessed over a pond with stone steps. Maid, linen and security services are included.
The villa was constructed in 2002 by a top hotel builder using the finest materials - tightly woven alang-alang, grass roof, coconut posts in the balcony, rock steps across the pond. For those who appreciate design and art, Talidandan is exquisitely appointed with the finest furnishings and art… antique reed doors from Kyoto, Japan, Japanese paper window and lamps, paintings from well known Ubud artist’s Ngurrah KK, Wayan Kotir and Pantir cover the walls. A large textile from Threads of Life sponsored Lamalera village women’s craft hangs above the bed. Hand drawn bakit cloth cover the pillows. For those who want deep quiet in the arms of nature’s abundant arms this is the place to bring serenity to your spirit.
My staff and I are eager to help you settle into the delights of Bali.
Smoking outside only. No pets.
Christina's place is exquisite & as other customers have pointed out - it's much better & larger in person than it looks in the photos.
Christina was also lovely herself, everything was organized and very easy with our stay.
Would recommend to friends and stay there again ourselves in a heartbeat - thankyou for having us!
Christina is charming and welcoming.
The place exactly as described - nestling in the most glorious natural setting. Everything was ready as promised. It felt like it was out off the beaten track but once we discovered the route back to ubud centre it was a doddle - she was very helpful organizing scooters and transport and the villa was lovely - and I was more than happy sharing it with a million insects -:) and the mosquito net over the bed - worked!! Thank you Christina for sharing your lovely home. I will return
This house is my haven in Ubud. It's close to Ubud (7 to 10 minutes ride) yet very quiet relaxing and elegant.
From the house you can have walks in the neighborhood among rice terraces, rivers and valleys. It's just 10 minutes walk to reach Petulu village with its famous heron birds.
The place is very well designed, it is much spacious than it looks in pictures. The kitchen is very well equipped and you will not miss anything..just bring your groceries and that's it.
The place has ceiling fans and I believe in this area with the free airflow inside the house, you'll not need Air Condition.
Lighting is well distributed and bathroom is very good with constant hot water supply.
The outdoor area has a sofa and dinning table. You will go to the pool area through the lovely fish pond to reward yourself with a nice gazebo beside the very nice and refreshing pool overlooking the nice view of tropical plants.
Christina is the most admiring factor in renting the place. She is a lovely character that you will enjoy talking to. And she is also admirable at professional level too. She is taking care of very small details in the place starting from handing you a piece of paper with guidelines and some useful tips till the management of the house that you can sense with all things are running in place efficiently.
This lovely house will definitely be my first choice in my next Ubud visits.
Christina is a great host! She is very nice to talk to and caters to your every need. We arrived past midnight and Christina had left some snacks for the night and all the necessary to have breakfast the next morning!
The bungalow itself is described very conservatively on Airbnb. It is (or at least looks) much bigger than it is described. The outside space is very pleasant and relaxing and the pool is gorgeous.
Christina's staff, Kadek and Nyoman, are very nice and helpful.
The only downside to the place is how open it is and how difficult it is to keep clean. Geckos, ants, mosquitoes and other bugs keep crawling in and sometimes leave their droppings and this is not always cleaned properly.
The location is also close to perfect. The villa is located about 45 minutes out of central Ubud by foot or 10 minutes by scooter.
Overall, I would very much recommend Christina's bungalow for the location, the space and Christina's attention.
a lovely secret in the rice fields.
perfect for slow days around ubud.
christina's house is comfortable, the staff is super kind and the green shades in the outside are a delight.
remember to appreciate the cultural details inside the house. (=
paintings, textiles and furniture.
friendly details with a special meaning.
hope to see you again.
We booked the lovely little villa on very short notice, but Christina's respons was very quick. She and her staff welcomed us and showed us around. The house is situated next to Christina's big house, approximately 5 km from Ubud. We rented scooters which is absolutely the best thing to do there. I think to have your own transport is a must, because it is somewhat secluded. Which on the other hand is the best thing about this romantic place. It is in between rice fields and tropical forest, definitely picture perfect. The house has all the amenities, even a whole equipped kitchen which we only used for breakfast because Ubud has many great places to eat. The house is decorated in a very tasteful way, every time I walked in the house I just thought: wow it's so beautiful. It has a private terrace, and a shared pool (it's also Christina's pool, but she never used it, so we had it for our selves. I would definitely recommend the house if you want to stay in Ubud. Thanks Christina for your great hospitality!
About the Host, Christina
I so enjoyed finding this setting many years ago and then building the house, organising the garden, and of course, hosting many friends and family from all over the world. I often travel out, especially to Japan and always feel the profound refreshment when I return.
Come join the magic!
