Secluded, spacious studio villa nestled between flowing water, jungle and rice fields - Bali at its best!

The Space

Nestled in the rice fields of Tegalalang district in central Bali is Talidandan Villa, just 5 kilometers north of Ubud. Designed by famed Dutch architect, Joost Van Grieken this warm minimalist design combines the stark simplicity of Japan with the open tropical refreshment of Bali. The villa is surrounded by a jungle, river, hill and rice fields of Gianyar Regency, the cultural and artistic center of Bali Island. Set a bit apart from the owner’s pavilions, the cottage is a 100 m2 self-contained 1-room unit with its own entrance, veranda, kitchen, shower and a shared 13-meter swimming pool. This is an ideal place for 1 or 2 persons who want a quiet retreat, away from busy city life. The villa has been featured in architectural publications.
Elegantly furnished in a warm Japanese/Balinese style, the house has an option of twin or double beds, complete with night reading lamps. In addition there is a dining table, 3-person sofa and large closet with a combination safe. The room includes both ceiling and floor fans, wi-fi, and a music system with ipod connector. The kitchen is completely equipped for cooking. The bathroom has a toilet, sink, 2 mirrors and a strong hot/cold shower. The balcony has a small table/chairs for 2 and a sofa and coffee table. The balcony overlooks a jungle garden and the swimming pool is accessed over a pond with stone steps. Maid, linen and security services are included.
The villa was constructed in 2002 by a top hotel builder using the finest materials - tightly woven alang-alang, grass roof, coconut posts in the balcony, rock steps across the pond. For those who appreciate design and art, Talidandan is exquisitely appointed with the finest furnishings and art… antique reed doors from Kyoto, Japan, Japanese paper window and lamps, paintings from well known Ubud artist’s Ngurrah KK, Wayan Kotir and Pantir cover the walls. A large textile from Threads of Life sponsored Lamalera village women’s craft hangs above the bed. Hand drawn bakit cloth cover the pillows. For those who want deep quiet in the arms of nature’s abundant arms this is the place to bring serenity to your spirit.

My staff and I are eager to help you settle into the delights of Bali.

  • Wonderful home, staff, and host. So nice to be outside busy central Ubud by a few mins motorbike drive. You really feel engulfed by the nature around you at Christina's place and the house is stocked with pretty much everything you need to cook and live a well rounded life with. Would come back or recommend the place in a heart beat.

We stayed for a month and couldn't have imagined anywhere better!

PS The room is better & bigger in person than it looks in the photos

  • A truly lush retreat, bordered by both rice paddies and stunning flora and fauna and situated in a small village up the road from Ubud center. Christina's well-presented bungalow (traditional in style, with a raised thatched roof) is behind the main private residence, catty corner to the pool and if possible even better than the pictures depict. I loved my time there so much, I extended my stay for one extra day. Christina and her staff were welcoming and incredibly helpful as I planned my daily activities. Dining options include a kitchenette, the restaurant at a new hotel/spa across the street, local warung, delivery or a trip into town. If you are looking to be a little secluded, but within easy reach of the bustling Ubud center this is a great choice - a 5K scenic bike ride, a quick trip by scooter/taxi will take you right into the center. I would definitely return here if I found myself back in Bali.

  • A stunning property in the middle of the Rice fields with a stunning jungle back drop. the perfect place to retreat and rejuvenate in Ubud. Christina has created a little slice of heaven and was a very kind host.

we are already looking forward to returning to Bali to stay with Christina.

  • This is a very pleasant place to stay. A little bit outside the centre or Ubud, but if you do not mind driving a scooter or getting a driver to travel through the rice paddies (which is a highly rewarding activity in itself), it is more than worth it. Plenty of attention to detail, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful location, spacious accomodation, fine dining at the hotel opposite or the basics at a little rumah makan just around the corner, a laundry on the way into town, loads of villages to scoot through, garden full of ginger and turmeric plants with their fragrant flowers, perfect to recover from the hustle and bustle of life, really lovely!

  • Amazing place, definitely wrapped in nature, but so cosy and nice.
It felt like a 5 stars hotel, without any other guests but us. Paradise!
And Christina is a really nice person always helping if needed.
Good to know : warung next door is awesome and cheap! (Christina will tell you where to find it) Also just get lost in the rice paddies it's simple and cool.

  • Our stay at Christina's place for 11 days in March was flawless. The house was comfortable, clean, and beautifully furnished. It was the rainy season, and the grounds were lush beyond words. The pool was clean, sunny, and great to have for the 'instant refresh' on really warm days. Christina was a super gracious host, easy and fun to be around, sophisticated and well travelled. It was a peaceful and tranquil experience staying there, and it was an enjoyable 10 min drive to Ubud. The staff of 5 were always helpful and all were cheerful, nice people.

    The Internet was very good.

  • A very pleasant villa and location with friendly staff. The owner's property is separate, providing a good degree of privacy. There are some local amenities within walking distance. The location is nice and quiet (nearby rice fields) but only a short drive to Ubud central.

  • This private accommodation was excellent. Large and very clean villa next to the main residence was perfect for relaxing. Beautifull Balinese finishes and design and relaxing outdoor area including pool and day bed. Room was maintained each day by the staff. The staff are around each day and able to help with basic things like calling transport and food. The house is about 6 kilometres from Ubud centre and takes about 10-15 minutes by car. The property is located on the edge of jungle nestled amongst rice paddies. Very beautiful, scenic location. Also there is a new hotel opposite that has shuttle into town on the hour which can be used for Rr 50000. The perfect property if you want to unwind, relax, enjoy the beautify of Ubud away from the hustle and bustle. Also has a fully quipped kitchen which is handy for cooking the odd meal, also though some great local restaurants that deliver great local food. Perfect spot for a couple.

About
I so enjoyed finding this setting many years ago and then building the house, organising the garden, and of course, hosting many friends and family from all over the world. I often travel out, especially to Japan and always feel the profound refreshment when I return. Come join the magic!
