About this listing
Secluded, spacious studio villa nestled between flowing water, jungle and rice fields - Bali at its best!
Nestled in the rice fields of Tegalalang district in central Bali is Talidandan Villa, just 5 kilometers north of Ubud. Designed by famed Dutch architect, Joost Van Grieken this warm minimalist design combines the stark simplicity of Japan with the open tropical refreshment of Bali. The villa is surrounded by a jungle, river, hill and rice fields of Gianyar Regency, the cultural and artistic center of Bali Island. Set a bit apart from the owner’s pavilions, the cottage is a 100 m2 self-contained 1-room unit with its own entrance, veranda, kitchen, shower and a shared 13-meter swimming pool. This is an ideal place for 1 or 2 persons who want a quiet retreat, away from busy city life. The villa has been featured in architectural publications.
Elegantly furnished in a warm Japanese/Balinese style, the house has an option of twin or double beds, complete with night reading lamps. In addition there is a dining table, 3-person sofa and large closet with a combination safe. The room includes both ceiling and floor fans, wi-fi, and a music system with ipod connector. The kitchen is completely equipped for cooking. The bathroom has a toilet, sink, 2 mirrors and a strong hot/cold shower. The balcony has a small table/chairs for 2 and a sofa and coffee table. The balcony overlooks a jungle garden and the swimming pool is accessed over a pond with stone steps. Maid, linen and security services are included.
The villa was constructed in 2002 by a top hotel builder using the finest materials - tightly woven alang-alang, grass roof, coconut posts in the balcony, rock steps across the pond. For those who appreciate design and art, Talidandan is exquisitely appointed with the finest furnishings and art… antique reed doors from Kyoto, Japan, Japanese paper window and lamps, paintings from well known Ubud artist’s Ngurrah KK, Wayan Kotir and Pantir cover the walls. A large textile from Threads of Life sponsored Lamalera village women’s craft hangs above the bed. Hand drawn bakit cloth cover the pillows. For those who want deep quiet in the arms of nature’s abundant arms this is the place to bring serenity to your spirit.
My staff and I are eager to help you settle into the delights of Bali.
Smoking outside only. No pets.
Christina made our stay at her villa the most wonderful experience we have ever had in Bali (or on vacation anywhere for that matter)! She was a gracious host, and went out of her way to make us welcome and giving us some very helpful advice to make our vacation trouble-free.
Christina's Villa... Hardly I can imagine that that choice will be so nice surprise...best stay anywhere so far for me. This will overcome the best your expectations and stay in your memory for a long time. Really, not always I'd like to come back somewhere or stay longer, I'd like to do these both at Christina's Villa. Any of the photos you see can hardly show how nice the Villa is, believe me, that's true!
The house in mixed Balinese (Ubud) and Japanese style I think, very cautiously and naturally integrated in the surroundings. 3 accents, Christina claimed are 100% true: simple, elegant, natural. This is like an art object, but not cold and alien, this is making you feel home from the 1st step in the villa's garden, on the terrace, going down to the pool area. This is a pearl, lost in the rice fields and jungle around it. I think you really need years of experience and very clear vision to create this beauty and even in this case you'll hardly can create something equal. The best house I've ever seen and was lucky to live there.
If you'd like to hear some facts - the Villa is situated opposite to Puri Sunia Resort. 20 km North from Ubud in a very quite area, although you can find 2 Warungs here(walking distance of 5 mins max) and a restaurant (Puri Sunia Resort). In the villa you have a very nice free WiFi, equipped kitchen area with tea and good(not instant) coffee. The space is organized like studio, so it is good only for 2 people, you have your own terrace and a shared pool. Staff at the villa are very friendly. Christina will meet you if she's not traveling at the time of your arrival and tell anything you'd like to know about the local life and sights and the Villa. You can have a very good massage on the terrace or at the pool area. Local phone is provided for your convenience. If you have car or bike - all the local areas sights are within 20-45 minutes (website hidden): if there was a 7 star rating in airbnb's impressions rate, I'd give all 7s to Christina's Villa.
It was our first experience to book through Airbn. Everything was awesome!
Christina’s villa is beautifully designed and decorated, and it fully corresponds to the pictures on the website. Actually it is even better and bigger in real life! The environment is tranquil. Honestly, we had some concerns, however when we arrived we were amazed how wonderful the place is! Christina and her staff (Kadek, Nyoman, Wayan and Komang) are nice, attentive, welcome, and helpful. Christina is charming and very kind.
Christina arranged pick up from the airport, and once we arrived late at night there was breakfast served in the morning. Her helpful tips of information were really useful for newcomers.
We really enjoyed the pool. The place is really ample and was thoroughly cleaned every day. It is very comfortable, surrounded by jungle, next to beautiful rice terraces. The villa is located in 10 minutes by motorbike from the central part of Ubud. The kitchen has all necessary appliances. There is a nice warung next to the villa with tasty local food, and there are many good restaurants in Ubud as well.
Thank you so much for everything! It was a perfect trip for us!
Christina's place is exquisite & as other customers have pointed out - it's much better & larger in person than it looks in the photos.
Christina was also lovely herself, everything was organized and very easy with our stay.
Would recommend to friends and stay there again ourselves in a heartbeat - thankyou for having us!
Christina is charming and welcoming.
The place exactly as described - nestling in the most glorious natural setting. Everything was ready as promised. It felt like it was out off the beaten track but once we discovered the route back to ubud centre it was a doddle - she was very helpful organizing scooters and transport and the villa was lovely - and I was more than happy sharing it with a million insects -:) and the mosquito net over the bed - worked!! Thank you Christina for sharing your lovely home. I will return
A real get away far from the thronged streets of ubud. The pool and setting absolutely tranquil. Nice area to wander around on a scooter with temples, egret roosting and gorgeous villages and padi fields within minutes.
This house is my haven in Ubud. It's close to Ubud (7 to 10 minutes ride) yet very quiet relaxing and elegant.
From the house you can have walks in the neighborhood among rice terraces, rivers and valleys. It's just 10 minutes walk to reach Petulu village with its famous heron birds.
The place is very well designed, it is much spacious than it looks in pictures. The kitchen is very well equipped and you will not miss anything..just bring your groceries and that's it.
The place has ceiling fans and I believe in this area with the free airflow inside the house, you'll not need Air Condition.
Lighting is well distributed and bathroom is very good with constant hot water supply.
The outdoor area has a sofa and dinning table. You will go to the pool area through the lovely fish pond to reward yourself with a nice gazebo beside the very nice and refreshing pool overlooking the nice view of tropical plants.
Christina is the most admiring factor in renting the place. She is a lovely character that you will enjoy talking to. And she is also admirable at professional level too. She is taking care of very small details in the place starting from handing you a piece of paper with guidelines and some useful tips till the management of the house that you can sense with all things are running in place efficiently.
This lovely house will definitely be my first choice in my next Ubud visits.
About the Host, Christina
I so enjoyed finding this setting many years ago and then building the house, organising the garden, and of course, hosting many friends and family from all over the world. I often travel out, especially to Japan and always feel the profound refreshment when I return.
Come join the magic!
