American Family living locally for 10 yrs. We have a huge house in the Hist. Center of Cusco. Walk everywhere, get insider advice & do local things.

The space

We have a large house in the Historical Center of Cusco. We have 5 big bedrooms. After 3 years of running a very popular airbnb we have decided to begin hosting big groups and families only. Our house can be chaotic, which big groups and families don’t mind. You share the house with us, a family of 7, and our tour company Haku Expeditions.

Guest access

Big house....3 showers for guests and three toilets for guest. We have our own. Big kitchen for fun breakfasts and meal time. Cook if you like! Laundry facilities for a small charge.

Other things to note

Most people are looking for the best experience in Cusco during their time here, we can help you accomplish that, we know the city, the best restaurants, the best day trips, the coolest bars, and how to arrange almost any trip on any budget. If you would like to do paragliding, 4 wheeling, the longest zip line in the world or one of the many awesome treks here in Cusco, hiking Salkantay, Ausangate, Choquequiroa, Inka trail, and Inca jungle, we can set it up. We have done it or know someone who has. (If you have not planned to have a few days or more in Cusco you will wish you did, so plan accordingly. There is lots to do in and around the Cusco area.)

Saturday is market day. We buy all our fresh food from the local non tourist market. If you want to come along feel free. Nic goes to the flea market early around 6am and then Bill goes to the farmers market around 8 or 9. There are loads of pics on the F B page. If we recommend anything, it is the Saturday farmers market. It only runs on Saturday and you will most likely be the only foreigner there. We still get emails saying how that market or our tour A Day in the Life was the best part of the trip.

We also ride some killer secret single track that we are more than happy to take experienced bikers on. We can also take you on our personal tour called A Day in the Life.... showing you Peru outside of the tourist spectrum. Our F B page has all kinds of pics of that tour and people who have done it. It is an all day experience and only runs on Sundays.

If you need a ride from the airport or bus station let us know, we can organize that for you, it costs 20 dollars, someone will drive there, wait, wait some more, hold a sign and even hold your hand if your scared, and then will get you to our house safe and sound without you having to haggle with the taxi drivers who love fresh tourists. However, if you find managing things like taxis in foreign counties no big deal take one here for 10-15 soles.

If you arrive before the 11:00 check in time and want to leave your bags here so that you can walk around the city feel free, OR if you are tired from the long journey you can crash on the couch while you wait for your room. Also, if you need a place to leave things while you go on some big trek or to Macchu Picchu for the night you can do that too.

As you can see from the pictures, we are a family. We have kids and we are very active. We are often hiking or biking or on some kind of adventure. When we are not out on an adventure we may be having a Bar-B-Q in the Sacred Valley that you can come to or just hanging out having a world famous Cuzquena beer or Pisco in the yard. Our kids are normal healthy kids, you may find them making a volcano in the yard, chasing our two chickens out of the house, jumping on your (URL HIDDEN) no no, I mean jumping on the couch, laughing, squealing from being tossed in the air or yes beating each other up and them crying about it. That’s the fun of a family. We love it and invite you in to be a part of our family for your stay and that’s exactly how you will be treated, like family or friends we have known for years.

My husband and I stayed for two nights at Nic's. Nic was prompt in confirming our booking request, which was nice because we were traveling on a standby pass with limited time to shop around. Nic's helper, Maggie, was kind and welcoming when we arrived in the evening. The home was comfortable, very peaceful, with lovely children. The bathroom sharing was pretty busy on the second evening when 5 more boarders arrived, which totaled 7 of us and one upstairs bathroom. There was a shared downstairs bathroom, but was also pretty busy with additional boarders on that floor. The grand total for my husband and I to stay at Nics house for two night came to $134, so we were pretty disappointed when walked into both 3 star hotels , almost connected to Nic's house on each side, and discovered that they each charged Total $110 for two nights! (The $110 included all taxes, two double beds with down comforters, stunning refurbished old lobbies, wifi, tv, 24 hour front desk assistance, free hot buffet breakfast and much more) One breakfast buffet included eggs, hot Peruvian meat dishes, side dishes, olives, fresh fruits, yogurts, cereals, juices, etc. We are simple content couple and never expect luxury, But all this for less $??? Maybe economics are in your favor if 5 people are sharing one room at Nics, or if you truly want a home experience, then perhaps it makes sense. We have used Air bnb in two other continents and bot were fabulous experiences, and much more economical, but for us, this time it was not.

Response from Bill And Nic:
Thanks Melina. In general people stay with us for the experience not for price or because they are looking for a deal. We are not a hotel by any means. Most often our guests are looking for a home and a different type of experience. The fact that you even looked into the hotel next door and considered it as somewhere you would stay, shows that our house was not the right match for you. Safe travels!

Bill and Nic's place was great; centrally located and the hosts were super helpful and responsive. They even helped us arrange a private tour of the Sacred Valley. We had a great trip!

Bill and Nic's House was wonderful. I loved that we experienced the feel of being a part of a family while in Cuzco. Their house was about a 10 min taxi ride from the airport and they were so nice in answering all our questions.

Bill and Nic were excellent hosts! They were super welcoming, helped me set up horseback riding to ruins (which I highly recommend) and drew out where to go for certain places on a map for me. They were beyond helpful and I loved staying with them. Thanks for such an awesome time!

The place was located very close to the main square and was within walkable distance to Qorikancha. Nicole helped us with many tips on the morning we arrived and suggested a rough itinerary of how to best utilize the two days we had in Cusco. WIsh we spent more time interacting with the family. The rooms were clean and spacious. shared bathrooms --- but were very well maintained.

Bill and Nic are excellent hosts. We stayed with them for 5 nights. They were very flexible and helpful the entire time. At one point, we were feeling under the weather. Nicole made us a home remedy to-go and now we are feeling much better.

Interaction with guests

We give breakfast, and love chatting over a cup of real Peruvian coffee. We have been told it is an amazing and great breakfast. You can decide when you get here.

We are a family not a hotel so things are run that way. If you arrive early, and many people do, we will offer you breakfast that first morning after your long journey.

By the way, if you have an early departure like 3am-7am, lets us know the night before, and we will leave something out for you to eat or to make and take. If you tell me way in advance I promise I will forget. I may be able to multitask like a queen (I being Nic) but I cannot remember it all, all the time.

About Bill And Nic

We moved to Peru with the desire to help in a third world country. We were complete volunteers for seven years. We both worked in schools for the poor. We arrived with minimal Spanish and a one year old. I would have to say we have come a long way since then. Not only are we fluent in Spanish but Bill has picked up Quechua from the locals he worked with in Andahuaylillas. Although we spent most of our time helping the poor we also took out time to search out some of the best single track, sweet day hikes, good camping spots and do the big treks around here. We love adventure and family which is why we do lots of family adventures.

We are both from Buffalo, NY but moved to Durango Colorado after we got married. We now live in the city center of Cusco Peru, ten minutes walking to the Plaza de Armas. We have decided to offer travelers a nice, safe, and relaxed stay in our house during their time here. After hearing about Airbnb from a friend, we thought it would be great to offer some of our extra rooms to the traveler who tires of cheap hotels and rowdy hostels. You should feel free to have a nice, safe, and relaxed stay in our house during your time here. We know the area, have done the trips, and know the best ways to enjoy Cusco, and its wonders. Plus we can help you do some off the beaten path stuff if you'd like. You'll be happy you stayed with us. Families are welcome!
