Description

The space

We have a large house in the Historical Center of Cusco. We have 5 big bedrooms. After 3 years of running a very popular airbnb we have decided to begin hosting big groups and families only. Our house can be chaotic, which big groups and families don’t mind. You share the house with us, a family of 7, and our tour company Haku Expeditions.

Guest access

Big house....3 showers for guests and three toilets for guest. We have our own. Big kitchen for fun breakfasts and meal time. Cook if you like! Laundry facilities for a small charge.

Interaction with guests

We give breakfast, and love chatting over a cup of real Peruvian coffee. We have been told it is an amazing and great breakfast. You can decide when you get here.

We are a family not a hotel so things are run that way. If you arrive early, and many people do, we will offer you breakfast that first morning after your long journey.

By the way, if you have an early departure like 3am-7am, lets us know the night before, and we will leave something out for you to eat or to make and take. If you tell me way in advance I promise I will forget. I may be able to multitask like a queen (I being Nic) but I cannot remember it all, all the time.

The neighborhood

Our neighborhood is in a safe part of town very central and close to the Plaza de Armas. You can walk from our house to all the sites in the city. Our house is well lit up and numbered so you won't get lost trying to find it. It's always advisable to take a taxi if you are out late at night. They can drop you off at our door. It's a 4 minute taxi ride from the Plaza de Armas at night. At rush hour however, you can walk faster than a taxi.

Getting around

You can walk out the door and be in the main square in ten minutes. It's also ideally located near all the transport hubs.

You can walk, take a cheap taxi for about $1.50 or take a public bus, which is an adventure in itself, zip your pockets. We know how to get just about anywhere here, so we can make sure you are getting on and taking the correct buses.

We are near all transit hubs to Ollantaytambo, Urumbamba, Pisac and the airport.

Other things to note

Most people are looking for the best experience in Cusco during their time here, we can help you accomplish that, we know the city, the best restaurants, the best day trips, the coolest bars, and how to arrange almost any trip on any budget. If you would like to do paragliding, 4 wheeling, the longest zip line in the world or one of the many awesome treks here in Cusco, hiking Salkantay, Ausangate, Choquequiroa, Inka trail, and Inca jungle, we can set it up. We have done it or know someone who has. (If you have not planned to have a few days or more in Cusco you will wish you did, so plan accordingly. There is lots to do in and around the Cusco area.)

Saturday is market day. We buy all our fresh food from the local non tourist market. If you want to come along feel free. Nic goes to the flea market early around 6am and then Bill goes to the farmers market around 8 or 9. There are loads of pics on the F B page. If we recommend anything, it is the Saturday farmers market. It only runs on Saturday and you will most likely be the only foreigner there. We still get emails saying how that market or our tour A Day in the Life was the best part of the trip.

We also ride some killer secret single track that we are more than happy to take experienced bikers on. We can also take you on our personal tour called A Day in the Life.... showing you Peru outside of the tourist spectrum. Our F B page has all kinds of pics of that tour and people who have done it. It is an all day experience and only runs on Sundays.

If you need a ride from the airport or bus station let us know, we can organize that for you, it costs 20 dollars, someone will drive there, wait, wait some more, hold a sign and even hold your hand if your scared, and then will get you to our house safe and sound without you having to haggle with the taxi drivers who love fresh tourists. However, if you find managing things like taxis in foreign counties no big deal take one here for 10-15 soles.

If you arrive before the 11:00 check in time and want to leave your bags here so that you can walk around the city feel free, OR if you are tired from the long journey you can crash on the couch while you wait for your room. Also, if you need a place to leave things while you go on some big trek or to Macchu Picchu for the night you can do that too.

As you can see from the pictures, we are a family. We have kids and we are very active. We are often hiking or biking or on some kind of adventure. When we are not out on an adventure we may be having a Bar-B-Q in the Sacred Valley that you can come to or just hanging out having a world famous Cuzquena beer or Pisco in the yard. Our kids are normal healthy kids, you may find them making a volcano in the yard, chasing our two chickens out of the house, jumping on your no no, I mean jumping on the couch, laughing, squealing from being tossed in the air or yes beating each other up and them crying about it. That’s the fun of a family. We love it and invite you in to be a part of our family for your stay and that’s exactly how you will be treated, like family or friends we have known for years.

Great intro to what life is like for a family in Peru. Location is excellent, it is very quiet. Accommodations are modest, comfortable and all you need. Hosts go out of their way to orient you to the city, get you acclimated and make sure you eat right. Highly recommend if you value family over luxury. We took the "Inka Legend" bike ride with their bicycle tour company Haku Expeditions and had a blast. Do it!

It was fantastic staying with Bill and Nic. Agree with all reviews on how lovely the house is, how big the rooms are and how great both Bill and Nic are. I had a wonderful time in Cusco as well. And these guys are experts on the town as they've lived here so long. Warmly recommend this place to anyone.

Nic and Bill are extremeley friendly, easy-going, professional and forthcoming. I stayed there for about a week and enjoyed their place as if it was my home. They manage to provide a family-feeling atmosphere and besides that are more than happy to provide you with recommendations from day trip ideas to restaurants. Their kids are lovely, too, and they interact with the guests very respectfully and bring a lot of sunshine into the house. The house is very clean, wi-fi is good but not 100% reliable. Showers come with good pressure and are reliably warm :-)

Bill and Nice were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. The house is beautiful, in a great location, and a great point to crash after days exploring Cusco. They helped some of our members with altitude sickness upon arrival, and the family also was very kind to us when some of our members fell ill. The kids were a blast and helped with translating when we went to the market with them. Highly recommended!!!
