A rich and vibrant neighborhood, Freetown was voted "Best place to live downtown" in 2013 and for good reason! With easy access to all the hot spots and the infamous I-10/I-49 intersection, this location is ideal for night-owls and day-trippers alike. Be sure to reference our custom made local guidebook on where to eat and play!
While the house sits firmly in the neighborhood, just a short walk in any direction brings you into the best of Lafayette culture. Within one half mile of the house is the heart of downtown, Jefferson St. featuring an array of at least 20 restaurants and bars, a public library, the Rosa Parks Transportation Center (train/city bus/ greyhound bus station), major banks, historic buildings, galleries, a splash pad, hair salons, retail shops ranging from crafts to bicycles to pastries, museums, great live music venues, coffee shops, the oldest continually operating ice cream parlor in America- Borden's, a farmers' market Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, plus, the highlight of our spring and summer Friday nights, Downtown Alive! and our two largest spring events- Mardi Gras and Festival International de Louisiane!!
Within one mile of the house we have a large, lovely park which is the location of our largest fall event, Festival Acadiens et Creoles, a dog park, a variety of churches, a larger farmers' market on Saturday mornings, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Oil Center, the historic Vermilionville, and more restaurants.
Within two miles of the house we have yet another Arts and Farmers' market on Saturday morning, the Heymann Performing Arts Center, a hospital, The Cajundome, Blackham Coliseum, the LITE Center, more parks, a movie theater, and of course more restaurants.
Beyond the two-mile mark, we have a large mall with several department stores, the Vermilion River with landings at different entry points, and a development that is a village within the city called River Ranch that features shopping, eating, drinking, and which hosts its own spring/fall series Rhythms on the River.
Acadiana is not just Lafayette. Outside of town but within ours and the neighboring parishes, our quaint nearby towns feature their own character. You may enjoy antiquing in Washington or Breaux Bridge. Or maybe a trip to the Atchafalaya Basin for a tour is of interest. Then there's the State Capitol just 45 minutes to the East. Keep going and you'll get to New Orleans, but you may never want to leave! To the West you'll find the Boudin Festival in Scott come April. Go south and run into Abbeville, but stop and enjoy some fresh-shucked oysters at Shuck's or Dupuy's. "Up north" 30 minutes you hit Opelousas. And go a little further to find some of Lafayette's locals' favorite camping at Indian Creek.
No matter where you turn or how far you go, you'll find something to do!
We have so many things to do and see within walking distance, you may never need to get in a car, but if you do, driving around is pretty painless. If you want to get around hands-free, Lafayette now has UBER! This fast and reliable option is accessible through their website or smartphone app.
The nearest city bus stop is half a block away and their routes are found on (website hidden).

We spent 2 fabulous weeks in a very nice place. It was a big house for only 3 persons. We felt at home. I should say that it is a house with a special soul. We miss this place. We had everything we needed. Having Lilian's mother next door was pleasant and interesting if we needed some advices. As for Lilian she is a lovely person who respected our need to "live our own life". You can relay on her help if you need. She can do her best quickly for you! We certainly shall come back here if we travel to Lafayette again in the future. I surely recommand this adress (we took photos before leaving for keeping our wonderful memories). Thank you so much Lilian. See you!

Lovely home and very clean. Lilian was very prompt with service - great communication! We would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a short term rental.
A very serene place for spending some days of vacation. We loved the special soul inside this typical old house of Louisiana. We appreciated very much the sense of the hospitality from Lilian, her young adorable daughter Evangeline, her very kind mother and sister. . .without forgetting Berry their sweet cat. As for the wistle train it just made us smile everytime we heard it. All was perfect : we had everything we needed. A special thank to Lilian for her entire availibity when we need some unplanned help. . . Thank you for her very nice smile, her way to respect our privacy , to be discreet but also to be right there in case. We come back soon for 4 days more before flying to France. We can t wait!
Spent a night here on our way back home from a road trip - wonderful experience! Lilian was easy to reach, and gave us plenty of suggestions for local places to dine and have breakfast. She made sure we were comfortable and happy.
The space has that charm that only old homes can offer. And the art work displayed adds to the experience (there were also a few large pieces in progress, which made the space feel kind of whimsical). The neighborhood of Acadia is fantastic too, with several local eateries within walking distance.
We briefly met Lilian's mom on our way out for breakfast the next morning and she was very pleasant.
Everything truly exceeded our expectations. I wish we could've stayed longer!
About the Host, Lilian
Hi! I embarked upon this adventure with my mom, Dixie as an experiment and it has been beautiful! We love meeting guests and hearing of their travels. We also love to travel when life allows!
The space we offer is a part of her house that we sectioned off, so she is right next door. Not to worry, she is naturally non-intrusive. I live just a block away, which is convenient for me to visit her and to assist you as a guest with any unforeseen needs. I have three small children and work another part-time job, just a few blocks away in our lovely downtown.
As hosts, we strive to offer you an authentic, local experience in our much-loved home. By home, I mean our house, our neighborhood, our town, our Acadiana.
