Our home is located along the NYC Marathon route, just steps away from Pratt Institute, on a tree lined block in the historic neighborhood of Clinton Hill. Cozy eateries, farmer and flea markets, shops and boutiques abound. We are a short walk from Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Barclay Center and several of Brooklyn's most historical churches. My stay in Shirley's apartment was beyond perfect. This was my first booking with Airbnb and I could not have asked for anything more. Check in was a breeze, Shirley met me and showed me around the apartment.
The apartment is a beautiful space with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. I stayed here for a month and as a solo traveller, the space felt like home and I was a little sad to leave!
I was a 19 year old female travelling alone and I can't emphasise enough how safe I felt in the area. The G subway is a 4 minute walk from the doorstep and the C about 10 minutes, both are able to get you into Manhattan in about 30 - 40 minutes. I had many evenings where I was home late and had to walk in the dark, I had no problems with feeling safe, the streets are all well lit and there were always people about walking dogs or heading home.
The area is fantastic, the supermarket or grocery store right outside your door and plenty of cute cafes and restaurants. I loved my stay here and am very much looking forward to coming back to the Clinton Hill area when I return.
In the lead up to and throughout my stay with Shirley, she was readily contactable and responded quickly to my questions via text. She also kindly accommodated for my late-night check-in and the place was perfect when I arrived. There was nothing I wanted for after being awake for 30+ hrs travelling from Melbourne, Australia - bath, snack, tea, and a comfortable bed in a warm, cosy apartment.
We had some issues with the toilet and working out how to use the TV, but Shirley graciously helped us out with that. The WiFi is not the most reliable, but there are some hotspots in the living room where it works fine.
Shirley keeps some emergency bathroom supplies in the cupboard so when we ran out of soap we were well taken care of. The kitchen is also fully stocked with utensils and some basic ingredients (seasonings, teabags, flour, etc.) and has everything you might need for a home-cooked meal when you want to save money. Having said that, the restaurants and cafes in the vicinity are amazing, and there is a supermarket and laundromat right across the street.
I would totally recommend this listing and would love to come back to Brooklyn and stay with Shirley again, especially since she lives right upstairs and is always available to help out where she can with advice, directions and just a friendly chat.
Host was very welcoming and the space is amazing for the price, especially in the Big Apple! Very quiet neighborhood when you need a retreat from the bustling city. Location is close to grocery stores and several restaurants that vary in cuisine selection. Very clean, neat and spacious.
Shirley was an excellent host. The apartment was clean and beautiful, and she was attentive but intrusive. I couldn't have been more happy with the stay.
We had the most wonderful stay in New York. Our apartment in Brooklyn was just perfect and we found d some treasures nearby - the cafe in the corner, wine bar nearby and the Brooklyn Flea Market to name a few. Our host Shirley waited up for our late arrival and had very kindly purchased some groceries for us as I had been unable to complete an online grocery order. This area of Brooklyn is lovely and we will definitely be back. Thank you!
We arrived late due to a delayed flight. Shirley met us and explained where everything was in the apartment and the nearest subway station.
The apartment was great, exactly what we were looking for. There was loads of room it was spotlessly clean. Would definitely stay here again. It didn't take long to get into Manhatten. The apartment is well equipped to cook.
We had a great stay - thank you very much Shirley.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shirley's apartment, it has everything you could possibly require and is spotlessly clean, a truly great place to stay when visiting New York. The subway is just a short walk away & the supermarket across the street is also a bonus. Shirley made us very welcome and was very informative regarding the local area. We would not hesitate to book with Shirley again if we decided to return to New York.
