Description

The Space

Guest will be in the heart of revitalized historic downtown São Paulo feeling the vibrant pulse of the business and cultural district yet having a peaceful haven to live in. Guest will live in a historic building on the 23rd floor in a property composed of 3 units which the Host joined together and renovated with modern, top quality construction materials (such as Portinori Porcelanate flooring and Deca bathroom facilities) while maintaining the original historic features of the original building (such as the wall cabinets made with Jacarandá wood); a unique home environment in a historical mixed-use building. One side of the property has glass sliding doorways with balcony affording a fantastic panoramic view of downtown São Paulo all the way to the mountain range, Serra da Cantareira. Part of the view includes the Terraço Itália, Copan and, Pico do Jaraguá. The Galeria do Rock, Municipal Theater, Praça das Artes / Ballet Center and modernized Palácio dos Correios are next door. A short walk takes you to the Bovespa/BMF stock exchange, the famous Martinelli building and Altino Arantes "Empire State" building, Praça da República, Copan, Praça da Sé, Mercado Municipal and other famous tourist attractions such as the Pinacoteca Art Museum and Parque da Luz. (In 2006 the Pinacoteca won the Pritzker Award, the Nobel for Architectural Design.) The Galeria Olido, next door, offers live band music, occasionally playing all night. Looking down from the private balcony Guest has a lovely view of the beautiful church Nossa Senhora do Rosário. Guest will often be privileged with an unforgettable view of the evening sunset over the city of São Paulo and the enchanting city night lights. During the day, from your 23rd floor balcony, it is also common to see helicopters flying by! Avenida Paulista is 5 minutes by metrô or taxi; 30 minutes walking. Only at my place will you have this unique opportunity to see the heart of the city of São Paulo at its finest.

Guest will be provided with a key to one of the entry doors for free mobility (come and go as you please) and is responsible for its safekeeping.

Total living area 150 square meters plus balcony.

Sight-seeing is included in your booking. Guest agenda permitting, Host will take Guest to see several local plus historical tourist attractions in downtown São Paulo during the daylight hours. There are more than 25 tourist attractions within walking distance. No cost involved for the walking tour excursions! Host loves to show off downtown São Paulo; Guest will have many memorable, no-regret, sight-seeing experiences!

Breakfast is included in your booking. Please let Host know in advance if you have any dietary preferences or restrictions. For a healthy lifestyle breakfast usually consists of fresh fruit from the local street market, dairy products such as eggs, yoghurt, and milk and, freshly blended fruit juices with chia seeds; Guest can also make their own according to their personal taste. May include bakery items. Guest will have free use of the kitchen. A Guest favorite is freshly brewed Brazilian coffee with “leite condensado." Host will acclimate Guest at the beginning of stay and Guest is expected to make themselves independently at home right away.

Easy access to all the local sights and downtown buildings and parks (by foot, by metro rail, by taxi). The best way is by walking since many things are close by in the downtown area where Guest will be staying. There are 4 Metrô stations within a short walking distance from my place: São Bento (2 minutes), República (2 minutes), Luz (10 minutes), Anhangabaú (7 minutes). Downtown São Paulo is THE place to be!

Feel free to ask any questions ahead of time. Here are some answers to some questions:

1) Wi-Fi Internet working beautifully: Wi-fi Internet is available in-house through a TP-LINK 300 Mbps Wireless N ADSL2 + Modem Router. Network name and password provided after you confirm your booking. Also, understand your cell phone situation in Brazil...

2) Cell phone service in Brazil: For your cell phone wi-fi needs recommend registering the VIVO TUDO or VIVO SEMPRE package with your pre-paid SIM card purchase for use in Brazil. You can purchase a SIM card with VIVO on a pre-paid basis for R$20 (at the Megacell store close by to my place) plus pre-paid phone charges (at the local Pharmacy or newspaper stand, etc.). Recommend purchasing the VIVO TUDO or VIVO SEMPRE package which includes unlimited data / Internet / SMS / Voice for national calls with a fixed weekly cost starting at R$ 6,90/week. You need a CPF number in Brazil in order to register your SIM card service (the CPF number is the equivalent of the Social Security number).

3) Room temperature: very pleasant. Balcony doors are opened for breeze; if needed a portable A/C unit is available.

4) TV: Host does not presently have a TV and this is not part of the lifestyle. None-the-less a large selection of DVD and Blue-Ray movies are available for viewing. Several movie theaters are close by within walking distance or by taxi. The gorgeous Municipal Theater is next door.

5) Directions - How to get to my place:

5a) From the International Airport - Cumbica/GRU:

Public transportation is NOT available from the international airport Cumbica-GRU. You have to use a taxi or the Airport Bus Service. A one-way taxi trip to/from Cumbica/GRU-SP can cost approximately R$125 with Guarucoop taxi service (look for them as you come out of the airport terminal). Pick-ups from airports: for an additional fee of R$150 PLUS transportation cost Host will be happy to greet you at the airport upon your arrival (Congonhas/SP or, the International airport Cumbica/Guarulhos). These expenses are not part of the AirBNB system -- Guest will reimburse Host upon arrival. Please coordinate your travel support needs in advance. Need additional Host support while in São Paulo? Just ask!

Rather than a taxi, if you want to take a bus from your arrival point (i.e. the Airport) to my place there is a bus service which stops at the Praça da República, the closest drop-off to my place or, stop at the Terminal Tietê and then come by metrô to the Estação São Bento to easily get to my place. Check out on the Internet the company called: Airport Bus Service -- this one way bus fare costs about R$ 46. A one way metrô ticket costs appx. R$ 4. (Prices quoted as of January 2016 and may vary.)

5b) From the Terminal Tietê: The metrô is connected to the Tietê bus terminal at the metrô station called "Portuguesa-Tietê." At the metrorail ("metrô"), purchase a ticket on the Blue Line (heading for Jabaquara direction) and get off at the Estação São Bento. You will travel only 4 stops on the metrô from the Estação Portuguesa-Tietê to Estação São Bento, a quick trip. Once you exit Estação São Bento, inside the metro station follow the signs and head towards the exit called "Vale do Anhangabaú." Once outside walk towards the Calçadão São João (on the left side of the Correio Central directly in front of you at this point) and, look for the yellow church. Once at the church, check the address provided by AirBNB to arrive at my place. Coordinate in advance with Host.

There are 4 Metrô stations within a short walking distance from my place: São Bento (2 minutes), República (2 minutes), Luz (10 minutes), Anhangabaú (7 minutes).

Pick-ups from the bus terminal Tietê: for an additional fee of R$75 PLUS metrô transportation cost Host will be happy to greet you at the bus terminal upon your arrival (Terminal Tietê). These expenses are not part of the AirBNB system -- Guest will reimburse Host upon arrival. Please coordinate your travel support needs in advance. Need additional Host support while in São Paulo? Just ask!

6) Host loves to accompany Guest on walking excursions for sightseeing and showing off the downtown area and is open to taking Guest to as many tourist attractions as possible, time permitting, for at least one day during Guest stay (plus Sunday). Any expenses incurred in the process of resolving Guest issues, sightseeing, outside snacks, lunch and dinner meals must be paid in full by Guest. There are no fees involved in the walking excursions at the places where the Host will be taking Guest.

7) Foreign Exchange: If you need money converted, a legitimate "câmbio" place is close by which offers the best rates; Host can take you if need be. Please do not come to Brazil without money to pay for your needs. I am not your bank account.

8) Meals: Breakfast is included in your booking. Guest has free use of the kitchen. Lunch and dinner meals are an extra Guest expense -- please plan your budget accordingly. A local supermarket is within walking distance. Guest may feel free to plan any meal requirements with Host in advance and which meals Guest wishes to include Host in. For late night arrivals please plan in advance your dinner meal requirements with Host and expected cost. For outside meals Guest has choice of many fine restaurants in the region for all types of budgets.

9) Sunday program: If you are with Host on a Sunday, this is a different kind of day from the other week days. Guest is welcome to accompany Host on the following walking excursion outings: Catedral da Sé; Street market shopping; Sunday newspaper; and, for additional Guest enjoyment a trip to the arts and crafts "Hippie Fair" at the Praça da República which also includes an outdoor food court offering regional specialties or, to the Praça da Liberdade for the Oriental-Japanese arts and crafts Sunday market and cuisine.

10) Chess: Chess players (and non-chess players) always welcome!

11) Gym / "Academias" -- there are several indoor exercise gymnasiums within walking distance which offer short-term payment plans on either a per visit basis, for one month only or, 3 month plans etc. Different options available for different budgets. The local YMCA ("ACM") has an indoor heated pool. The in-door exercise gym is an additional expense for the Guest and not part of the AirBNB system. For free, you can exercise at the local park which has gym equipment, jog in the downtown area or, think about renting a bicycle for the Sunday bike trails in downtown São Paulo. If interested, feel free to inquire with Host for guidance.

Getting Around

By foot is by far the best way to get around for anything downtown. If your destination is further away, Guest can use the modern and extensive underground metro-rail system with the Metrô São Bento and Metrô República stations close by; taxi transportation is the next alternative with a taxi stop right outside the building. There are 4 Metrô stations within a short walking distance from my place: São Bento (2 minutes), República (2 minutes), Luz (10 minutes), Anhangabaú (7 minutes). Covered parking for your own vehicle is next door. To facilitate your travels Guest will receive a "crachá" for free entry and exit via the building lobby security during their stay. ID required upon arrival.

Other Things to Note

Guest will sleep in the main area in an original vintage Brazilian sofa-bed from the 1940´s refurbished with black leather. The sofa bed opens up to become a regular queen size bed.
