Staying in this apartment was an AMAZING experience. The Sony Center is in the heart of Berlin, and is kind of indescribable, but I'll try. It's like a modern piazza, with all kind of modern buildings built around a large courtyard with a large pool/fountain in the middle, and restaurants and stores surrounding. It connects with a little bit of an indoor mall, leading to a metro stop. From this apartment, you see the entire Center from the 10th floor, including the completely crazy ceiling of the "piazza", which is like a giant sculpture. It changes color at night, and as whacky as that sounds, I enjoyed it. Basically, being in the apartment was an unforgettable experience.
Michael met us promptly. He told us to meet him at "the Giraffe," which wasn't very clear. Our taxi driver had no idea what that meant, so we had to walk through the Sony Center inquiring about a Giraffe. Well, it's outside the "piazza" part, on the other side of the Sony store, where there is a giant giraffe made of Legos, outside a Lego store. We wouldn't have minded, except that we were on one leg of a very long trip, had spent 6 hours on the train, had heavy bags, and we're in our 60's. So now you know where "the Giraffe" is.
We had a problem with the tv, and Michael came promptly that day and fixed it. Also, be aware that there is a fee that he expects you to pay in cash, of 15 Euros (I don't remember what for, but apparently I missed that detail), when you first arrive. Having just arrived from Copenhagen and before that Scotland, we only had pounds on us. He allowed us to pay later, but seemed mildly annoyed that I had not realized the rules.
I loved the location, once I got oriented to Berlin. There were easy train rides to most location, and the Sony Center is near a "Hop-on, Hop-off" but, which I recommend. I actually really enjoyed the Sony Center itself. Berlin is a new and mostly re-built city, so be prepared to see a lot of modern architecture. I highly, highly recommend the boat ride on the river, which gives very cool views of important buildings, mostly modern, but some appearing to be original architecture.
Overall, this Airbnb stay was a wonderful, unique experience (I felt kind of special, staying there -- like one of the "cool" people. :) and I would highly recommend staying at this apartment.
The host was super prompt & welcoming & the apartment exactly as described. We thought that the location was brilliant- very central, convenient & with a great buzz.
Everything you need to stay in berlin, close to some main attractions (berlin's gate, the holocaust) and accessible through any transportation you choose. The apartment it self is amazing, it has all the necessities. Totally recommended
Michael is friendly and helpful, although he has other tenants to attend to, he took the time to explain to us the surroundings. The place constitutes a remarkable experience and we couldn't get bored with the view over Sony center. Overall we had a very enjoyable experience and recommend it warmly.
I was so close to not finding a spot in Berlin and then decided to venture onto airbnb's site and came across this lovely room in the heart of the Berlin Film Festival and the city.
I felt very safe and cozy.
I saved lots in taxi fares for everything I needed was a close walk away.. I would happily stay there again and almost hesitate to write any more great things because then everyone will want this futuristic, modern, perfectly planned out apartment, the secret it out..
We had a very good time in Berlin. Apartment location is perfect. It is properly equipped and convenient.
To Pay attention -
Sleeping above the Sony Center is not a real issue unless they start preparing the circle area for a evening premier, in the morning... 8 AM... And you sleep with open windows (on a summer day).
The bed is a shifting two pieces unit...and way too soft. A disaster for your back.
Daniel helped us in. he was very nice and pleasant. Offerd lots of information.
