The US media has grossly overstated the crime in Mexico and it has scared off tourists who are missing out on the riches of this fantastic country. In our 7 years here, there has never been an incident at Casa Arriba nor in our travels throughout the area and into Central Mexico by car. Friends come and go through the border, down to other states and up into the mountains without incidents. You can rest coming to Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita knowing that you will have a wonderful time. But we do advise that you unplug if you can as computers are targets for petty thieves. There are plenty of internet outlets in town.
Kitchen casita which is fully stocked with all you need. Just bring your food!

Had an amazing week staying at Bonnie's Casa Arriba. Picturesque views coupled with the privacy of Casita Azul made for a really memorable trip. Traipsing up the big hill was a little tough after a few too many tequilas one night, but the rest of the days and nights we looked forward to the serene 15-minute walk from town that allowed us to crush more tacos!
Bonnie's story is as unique as the space she has created and she's fond of sharing both.
Thanks Bonnie for an great week in Sayulita!
Oh, one last tip: don't trust the map! Make sure you just take a cab using Bonnie's directions.
Bonnie was fantastic. She's been in Sayulita a decade, is very connected with the community and is a fount of great information. She also happens to be quite a considerate host. Much of the week we were in the house alone with Bonnie. We shared many easy and interesting conversations and when my fiance and I both came down with the flu, Bonnie offered us electrolytes, calming advice and extra towels. She's a 10 out of 10 and be sure to ask her about "Purple Rain"!
Casa Arriba is by far the most romantic and beautiful place I've stayed at! A white house on the top of a hill with incredible views of the Pacific… The room we stayed in (Azul) was charming and clean, filled with natural light and, once again, it can't be stressed too much, gorgeous views of the ocean. The room has its own balcony; we spent there several nights looking at the starry sky, relaxing after the sweaty days on the beach. Bonnie was a wonderful host, who welcomed us to the house as if we were coming home (that's what it soon started to feel like!). It was hard to leave this magnificent place. Thank you, Bonnie! L & V
Bonnie and Casita Arriba were the highlight of or time in beautiful Sayulita. Spending the Holidays with Bonnie was a delightful experience. She is a fabulous host and Casa Arriba is our new home away from home. We miss Chili and Silver and their fabulous energy and protectiveness. Bonnie was a delight in every sense from great advice and direction to food and activities suggestions and special treats. We will be back soon....very soon.
Bonnie could not have been more accommodating for our travels. Her Casa is perched at the top of Nanzal hill with breathtaking views. I found the surroundings to be peaceful and inspiring, sort of wishing I had brought my guitar! One night I swear I saw more stars than I have ever seen in my life. Most people cab up to the Casa, but we really enjoyed hiking it ourselves. The cobblestone switch-back roads are gorgeous and we saw many athletes who train on these roads. If Hemmingway was still alive and liked Mexico as much as he liked Spain, there is no doubt he would have written a novel here.
Absolutely loved our stay at Bonnie's. Beautiful room, beautiful view, beautiful kitchen! Bonnie was a great host helping answering all our questions and needs. Sayulita is a really nice town as well with good restaurants and eateries and a great beach. Casa Arriba is a small paradise up on the hill, why a car is good to have. If I ever come back to that part of the world again I'll definitely stay at Bonnie's again.

Hola! I am former public relations professional who worked with blue chip clients including Prince on his film, ¨Purple Rain¨, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, The President´s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Stephen Wozniak´s rock and roll and computer extrvaganza, the Us Festival and many others for 30 years. While running my San Francisco firm, i renovated Ark de Triumph, an historic ark (1800s houseboat) in Sausalito, CA, and ran a bed and breakfast from part of it that was Ïnn of the Month¨in Travel & Leisure Magazine and featured in major travel and design media in the US. Casa Arriba is my next project and reflects my love of design, art and passion for architecture. According to a leading international architect, ¨There is nothing wrong with the design of this house¨.
I am now an artist and filmmaker and have taught art to over 100 ninos in Sayulita. My film (yet to be named) focuses on the history and original families of Sayulita and will kick off a cultural festival in Sayulita late 2013 or early 2014. It is being created along with a mosaic mural project at Sayulita's Casa de la Cultura depicting the history of the pueblo, both of which are being sponsored by Costa Verde Collegio in Sayulita.
It would be remiss to live in Mexico without rescuing street dogs, two of whom win over guests at Casa Arriba, Chili is from the streets of Puerto Vallarta and Silver is from Lo de Marco, north of Sayulita. They are two of ten dogs who have come and sadly gone and they do an excellent job of keeping Casa Arriba safe for guests.
Mi casa es tu casa. Come with a sense of adventure, a love of beauty and peace, respect for your surroundings and a love of laughter and dogs. I'll do everything I can to help make your stay memorable.
