The US media has grossly overstated the crime in Mexico and it has scared off tourists who are missing out on the riches of this fantastic country. In our 7 years here, there has never been an incident at Casa Arriba nor in our travels throughout the area and into Central Mexico by car. Friends come and go through the border, down to other states and up into the mountains without incidents. You can rest coming to Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita knowing that you will have a wonderful time. But we do advise that you unplug if you can as computers are targets for petty thieves. There are plenty of internet outlets in town.
Kitchen casita which is fully stocked with all you need. Just bring your food!
Grounds, hammocks, outside seating.

We loved our room with a view! One of the greatest views of the sunset in Sayulita. Which in turn means that it is a 15 min trek up the hill to the house. As other people have said, we had no problem catching a $3 cab ride to the top and walked down every day, we enjoyed the exercise. Bonnie was very accommodating to us, even drove us to town a few times. The room is cozy and quiet, we enjoyed being away from the noise of the center of town. Bonnie was very respectful of privacy although we enjoyed talking with her and saying hi to her two cute dogs. If you want to stay with someone who is a conscious expat who is documenting the history of Sayulita then this is the place for you! (who wouldn't!?) Bonnie is a very interesting cool lady with lots of knowledge and stories to tell about the town. Thanks for everything Bonnie. We will be back!
It was so nice to have you and i so appreciate the review. Im in search of a new net but they seem not to make them anymore..
The mosquitos usually take flight when the floor fan is on but have only bothered one other person. I sm Sorry you were one..
Its the sweetness of you!!
Hope to have you back soon
Will keep the luce on for you.
This was our first Air BnB and it was excellent. Bonnie is a gracious, laid-back host with a beautiful home. The location was perfect for us, perched on the north hill with views to sea and slightly towards town. It was quiet, peaceful, and safe, and we were able to get a work-out in each day from our walk back up the steep hill from town. Casita Azul on the upper level of the house has the best view and seems the most private of the 3 casita’s. Furniture and amenities were well proportioned and comfortable. The overall sense of the house is open with beautiful stone, metal, and woodwork adding classical character. We enjoyed sharing stories with Bonnie and learned a lot about the town from her. She was sweet to entertain me for a day while my husband recuperated from some bad food. We recommend this place as you’ll have some great conversations, learn many new things, and have a wonderful place to relax.
I'm sooo glad you had fun despite a couple of snags. Thanx for the great review. Hummmm there was fresh Garafon water under the sink, did you miss it? Oh those keys!! I will pay a million dollars to the one who figures out a better system with so many doors and revolving guests. :))) hope to have you come back!
We had a great stay at Casa Arriba, not only because of the beautiful location and cozy Casita, but because of Bonnie's warmth and openness.
We were quickly greeted by two cute pups, Chili and Silver, and cold drinks in the fridge. Bonnie was available to share information both about her home and about Sayulita. She has done some great work in town and can provide insight you may not get elsewhere. She was available but we always felt that we had our space.
Casita Azul was great! You can both hear and see the ocean from the bed (let alone the balcony outside the casita). The bed was comfortable and the room tastefully decorated.
The walk up the hill is a force to be reckoned with, but we did it daily to make up for taco indulgences.
We'll definitely be back to Casa Arriba if we return to Sayulita.
We had a fantastic stay with Bonnie. She is a warm, genuine and helpful host with an inspiring life story and two lovely dogs! She was around to help with questions and give local recommendations but we still had plenty of our own space. The location of the casita is breathtaking - up a very steep hill (so a car or golf buggy rental are preferable but not essential). 10-15 mins to Sayulita town centre and beach - which we really enjoyed as it meant we were close enough to pop in and out without hassle but we had the benefit of a peaceful hideaway. Up so high, the view is absolutely incredible. We saw both sunsets and sunrises from our light and airy casita. We also sat on our balcony with takeaway tacos, looking up at more stars than we've ever seen before. The garden area is full of lush greens and colourful blooms. The casita and shared kitchen area are simple but tastefully decorated, full of Bonnie's art and a mix of traditional mexican and modern furnishings. We had a wonderful relaxing week and would stay again. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed staying in Sayulita at Casa Arriba. Our casita (Azul) was perfect. The view was incredible and the bed was comfortable. Bonnie was a wonderful host. She provided really excellent advice for good food and drink in town. Her house was really clean and modern.
The neighbourhood was quiet due to the location. Casa Arriba is located on Nanzal Hill which means it's a bit of a walk up. We really enjoyed it being on top of the hill so the walk (10 mins) was 100% worth it. At night we took taxis home for 50p so there's always that.
Sayulita was a wonderful town to spend a week in. There was a huge variety of local, regional and international cuisines. We really enjoyed spending time at the beach. The surf break was really mild which made for great beginner surfing.
The reservation was canceled 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Had an amazing week staying at Bonnie's Casa Arriba. Picturesque views coupled with the privacy of Casita Azul made for a really memorable trip. Traipsing up the big hill was a little tough after a few too many tequilas one night, but the rest of the days and nights we looked forward to the serene 15-minute walk from town that allowed us to crush more tacos!
Bonnie's story is as unique as the space she has created and she's fond of sharing both.
Thanks Bonnie for an great week in Sayulita!
Oh, one last tip: don't trust the map! Make sure you just take a cab using Bonnie's directions.

Hola! While running my San Francisco firm, i renovated Ark de Triumph, an historic ark (1800s houseboat) in Sausalito, CA, and ran a bed and breakfast from part of it that was Ïnn of the Month¨in Travel & Leisure Magazine and featured in major travel and design media in the US. Casa Arriba is my next project and reflects my love of design, art and passion for architecture. According to a leading international architect, ¨There is nothing wrong with the design of this house¨.
I am now an artist and filmmaker and have taught art to over 100 ninos in Sayulita. My film (yet to be named) focuses on the history and original families of Sayulita and will kick off a cultural festival in Sayulita late 2013 or early 2014. It is being created along with a mosaic mural project at Sayulita's Casa de la Cultura depicting the history of the pueblo, both of which are being sponsored by Costa Verde Collegio in Sayulita.
It would be remiss to live in Mexico without rescuing street dogs, two of whom win over guests at Casa Arriba, Chili is from the streets of Puerto Vallarta and Silver is from Lo de Marco, north of Sayulita. They are two of ten dogs who have come and sadly gone and they do an excellent job of keeping Casa Arriba safe for guests.
Mi casa es tu casa. Come with a sense of adventure, a love of beauty and peace, respect for your surroundings and a love of laughter and dogs. I'll do everything I can to help make your stay memorable.
