This cozy apartment with a full bath, living and dining rooms, kitchenette, wifi and private entrance is the perfect base for your Seattle visit.
The bedroom is fitted with a quality queen bed, a variety of pillows, and your preference of a comfy down or standard comforter.
The living room space has a new high-end futon that can sleep one additional person, as well as a 32 inch LCD TV, cable and a DVD/Blueray player. We can work to adjust the futon comfort by adding a topper if you want it more plush. There is also a selection of movies for your viewing pleasure. The Wifi is accessible from all rooms.
The full bathroom has heated floors to warm those toes in the morning, and will be outfitted with all the amenities of home such as a hair dryer, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, q-tips, cotton balls, a magnifying make-up mirror and shaving cream. There are even robes behind the door.
The kitchenette has a full set of dishes, silverware, coffee cups and juice glasses, beer and wine glasses, a microwave, a dorm-size fridge (a second dorm-size fridge is also in the dining room if you need more fridge space), a Keurig coffee maker and hot water kettle. Waiting for you will typically be water, juice, fruit, oatmeal, a variety of tea bags, and coffee to get your morning started off. Also provided is a full suite of condiments to help enhance any homemade or take-away meals you arrange.
Feel free to enjoy the backyard deck on a sunny day!
Guests have a private entrance. Check-in access is available at any time of day.
The shared laundry room is available for your use. For short term stays, we plan to arrange our laundry days so we do not need to use it while guests are in the suite, but in an emergency advance notice will be provided so your privacy is ensured. For stays over a week, we will be sure to discuss with you a convenient time for us to access the laundry.
Interaction with guests
We live upstairs on the main floor, but are not home during the day and in the evenings are either out enjoying the amenities of this beautiful city, or spending a quiet evening at home. You can contact us by cell phone if you need anything. If you like privacy, due to your private entrance it is likely we can both come and go without running into each other. Or if you prefer, we'd love to help you explore this town and find interesting things to do and places to eat. There's never a shortage of things to do or places to eat in Seattle!
The Phinneywood (north Phinney Ridge/south Greenwood) neighborhood is a safe, quiet, eclectic locale a few minute walk to the cherished Greenlake Park. With it's miles of walking/running paths, it is a outdoor lover's dream. You may encounter ducks, frogs, geese, owls and herons as you traverse either the paved path around the lake, or the unpaved paths in the park. Other available activities/amenities in the park include swimming, boat rentals, miniature golf, a children's playground, basketball courts, bike rentals, roller blading, fishing, tennis, and a skateboard park. 1.5 blocks away from our home is Greenwood Avenue with block after block of local coffee shops, pubs, restaurants, antique shops, a local market, boutiques, privately owned bookstores and drop-in friendly exercise classes.
Phinney is very convenient to access by car from both I5 and Highway 99. There is plenty of free street parking on the street, and a trip downtown will take 10 minutes by car. For folks without a car, the wifi outfitted and new Rapid Ride E line is 2 blocks away and will get you downtown in about 15 minutes. The nearby Greenwood Avenue has stops for the north/south #5 bus (this bus will also get you downtown in about 15 minutes) that connects with transfers to go east and west.
You can search on "seattle metro" (airbnb does not allow publication of web site names) to find the seattle public transportation system website. Here you can Plan A Trip and also download the Tracker app to find directions from your current location and to track buses.
To get here from the airport without a car, your options are as follows: (1) train/bus: 1 hour, just under $6 total per person, including $3 for train (can be paid with credit/debit card or cash using a machine), $2.50 off-peak/$2.75 peak (6-9 am, 3-6 pm) for bus. Note that even though the train now goes to North Seattle via the University of Washington stop, since the stop is in the far east of North Seattle and my house is directly north of downtown, it is still faster to get off downtown and take the bus directly north. (2) Shuttle Express: 5-15 minute wait at airport, 30-60 minute drive depending on how many stops they make, $38 for your party (3) Uber/Lyft: ~$40, 25 minute drive without traffic (4) Taxi: $55, 25 minute drive without traffic. (5) For people with a Car2Go accounts, you can now pick up and drop-off at WallyPark - a private garage near the airport with shuttle service near the airport. Leaving a car there costs $5.
If you intend to use the bus while you are here, I have a bus card you can borrow - you can walk to the supermarket and load money on it so you do not have to have exact change every time you use the bus.
For guests traveling from Portland or Vancouver, BC by bus, consider the regional express Bolt Bus as an option to Greyhound.
Other things to note
This is a basement apartment with ceilings lower than typical. If you are tall, the top of you head will be brushing against the ceiling in the bedroom with 6' 3" ceiling height, and you will need to duck when you are entering downstairs and in two locations where the ceiling is dropped for ducts (just under 6' ceiling height).
Check-in/out during the week is mostly at your convenience.
On the weekend it is flexible depending on if the suite is booked before or after your stay as we need time to clean between guests. Thank you in advance for your flexibility.
I love our furry friends, but not everybody does so unfortunately pets are not allowed in the apartment.
Please no overnight guests unless discussed first.
No smoking is allowed in the suite or on the property.
Candles cannot be used inside the apartment.
Please remove shoes before walking on rugs/carpet.
Because we have to be up early, request guests who consider after 10 pm to be quiet time. No issue with coming and going after 10 pm, just no loud music and consideration when entering/leaving and closing doors would be appreciated. We will do the same.
Other than that, the only expectations are for you to relax and enjoy your time here in the Emerald City!

I earn my keep as an engineer, and enjoy quite a variety of activities, so whatever you want to do here, I can probably help you find it. I also ride a motorcycle, have a pilot's license, have traveled extensively to Europe, Central America and Africa and have spent time briefly in Asia and South America. My goal as a host is to provide you with a comfortable place to call home, and help you enjoy your time in this magical city. I know from experience having a local resource can make a world of difference. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Wishing you safe travels!
