Vigdis and Thomas are wonderful hosts! The place is beautiful, so off the beaten track! We were surrounded by sounds of nature, including adorable howler monkeys daily. The lodge's natural feel blends right in with the surrounding jungle. We toured with our hosts to Isla Tortuga where we had a wonderful lunch and beach fun, although we could just hang around the private beach there, which was amazing. Zero complaints!

I was only there two nights but this place was truly amazing. My first afternoon there the trees were full of monkeys. That night I went on the bioluminescent kayaking tour. It was an incredible experience I'm so glad I got to have. The next day, Vigdis generously drove me to the bus stop so I could visit a nearby wildlife reserve on the cheap. It was such a beautiful place and Paquera is a sweet little town. My last night there the ferry had an accident and was shut down but Vigdis diligently tracked updates and made sure I was able to make it back to Puntarenas in time for my next bus. My only regret is that there was too much swell for me to go snorkeling. I guess I'll just have to go back (and hopefully bring a bunch of family next time)!

This was a wonderful place to stay! It was very beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the beach! There were also several tours you could book through here. Vigdis and Thomas were very friendly and helpful and made excellent meals for us! The bioluminescence tour was very cool and they were very accommodating taking us out even though it was so close to the full moon. I highly recommend staying here!

WOW. This place is what made our vacation to Costa Rica so memorable. Vigdis and Thomas have a wonderful business, Bahia Rica, which allowed us to snorkel, have boat rides, and enjoy bioluminescent kayaking. These are only a few of the experiences they offer. Each morning Vigdis made us delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, banana pancakes, or her Norwegian breakfast spread. We loved staying in the jungle with the monkeys but also having the beach just a walk away. The teak treehouses have more hammocks to relax in than we could count. This is a beautiful place with the most accommodating hosts. We cannot rave more or reccomend this enough, it's a MUST.

Vigdis and Thomas were very helpful with everything. Their place is very unique and scenic. There were monkeys in the trees right outside our balcony. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

I stayed here for two nights and highly recommend it! This is a great, in the middle of nature, place to stay-in a tree house!! And it is really close to the water. Best of both worlds Costa Rica has to offer. Vigdis and Thomas were so nice and welcoming!! They have so much experience and knowledge they are happy to share! I loved being able to easily rent kayaks and SUPs to explore. This is fairly secluded but not far at all from the ferry making it an easy stop. The stairs to get back to house from the beach are no joke!! But they are worth it!

The guest house lodge has rooms with a shared bathroom. It's a really cool setting with monkeys in the trees around it, and good porch and deck. It is a long path of stairs down to the water and the hosts' main house. It is quite rustic there with basic kitchen area, and the house is a creaky as mentioned, and the openness does invite some bug as typical for Costa Rica's environment. On the fantastic side, Thomas and Vigdis provide terrific hospitality and a sending off point for exciting activities. While we could only stay one night, we packed in both an amazing bioluminescence tour by kayak the first night (and they helped with the dinner order for us while boating), and a really great trip to Isla Tortuga for snorkeling and play the next day that they organize. Really enjoyed the Norwegian breakfast as well. Thanks for a great visit!

Vigdis & Thomas User ProfileVigdis & Thomas is a superhost.

Bahía Rica Fishing & Kayak Lodge is privately owned by a Norwegian couple, whose purpose is to offer a memorable stay in Costa Rica in a real jungle setting. The Gulf of Nicoya is the perfect place to offer this, and at Bahía Rica the combination of comfort and rustic jungle is perfectly balanced. This balance integrates services, nature and animal expereinces, sports and recreational activities – all in one place.
