About this listing
Our artsy wooden house is perfect for people that enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the main tourist trails. The place is perfect for relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the jungle sounds, or you can go a kayak or fishing tour with us.
Bahía Rica is at Punta Cuchillo on Costa Rica's west coast. We can accommodate up to 9 guests in our artsy wooden house. We are renting out the rooms in the house as a Bed & Breakfast.
The house has 3 rooms, and you share a kitchen and the bathroom with other guests,
Be aware that the guesthouse is based on a hill, and to get down to the beach area and breakfast area you have to walk a long stairway (256 steps).
Bahía Rica kayak and fishing lodge is based on the properties of La Nicoyana a small private nature reserve. So it is very pristine. At Bahía Rica we live close to the nature and take pride in protecting our surroundings.
The guest house has two balconies with nice hammocks, a little library and some board games. There is a small kitchen if you want to cook for yourself, or you can order meals from us. We do home cooked meals on request.
From the guest house you have to walk over 250 steps to get down to the beach area - but it is well worth it as we have our own tranquil beach with palm trees.
We offer several tours as well:
Bioluminescent night kayaking
Boat tours to Isla Tortuga
Boat tours to Isla San Lucas
Snorkeling and monkey boat tours
Whale and dolphin watching tours
Interaction with Guests
Bahia Rica is a small family run place, and we typically hang around with our guest and have meals together.
We are a Norwegian couple. We decieded to follow our dream and settled in Costa Rica in 2007 to start up our fishing and kayak lodge.
Punta Cuchillo is a small non touristy village, but we are conveniently close to the ferry and buses.
It is a safe neighbourhood, and you'll get a feel of a typical Costa Rican lifestyle. Since there are very few people living here we still have an abundance of wild life. Prepare yourself to meet monkeys, anteaters, skunks, armadillis, butterflies, bats, parrots and a lot of other wildlife.
We are based 1,5 km from the Paquera ferry landing.
There are buses leaving several times a day from there, and you will always find a taxi there as well.
The little town of Paquera (8km from the guest house) has all the basics; grocery stores, pharmacy, ATMs, restaurants, gas station etc
Other Things to Note
Breakfast is included in the price.
Options for other meals:
1) There is a small kitchen in the guesthouse so you can cook for yourselves. Be advised that the closest grocery store is 8km away, in the little town of Paquera
2) We cook dinner on request (please check with us as it is not available every night)
3) Pizza delivery
4) Go to one of the resturants in the little town of Paquera
(There is also a small restaurant close to the ferry landing that is open until 4pm - only 1,5 m to walk)
Please do not smoke in our rooms.
Be aware that it is a wooden house with floor that creaks, with a lot of open space. So if there are other guests staying at the guesthouse at the same time as you - please be concsiderate.
No pets allowed, as we have cats and dogs that are protective of their space.
