Our artsy wooden house is perfect for people that enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the main tourist trails. The place is perfect for relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the jungle sounds, or you can go a kayak or fishing tour with us.
Bahía Rica is at Punta Cuchillo on Costa Rica’s west coast. We can accommodate up to 9 guests in our artsy wooden house. We are renting out the rooms in the house as a Bed & Breakfast.
Bahía Rica kayak and fishing lodge is based on the properties of La Nicoyana a small private nature reserve. So it is very pristine. At Bahía Rica we live close to the nature and take pride in protecting our surroundings.
The guest house has two balconies with nice hammocks, a little library and some board games. There is a small kitchen if you want to cook for yourself, or you can order all your meals from us. We do home cooked meals every day.
From the guest house you have to walk over 250 steps to get down to the beach area - but it is well worth it as we have our own tranquil beach with palm trees.
We offer several tours as well:
Bioluminescent night kayaking
Boat tours to Isla Tortuga
Boat tours to Isla San Lucas
Snorkeling and monkey boat tours
Whale and dolphin watching tours
Interaction with Guests
Bahia Rica is a small family run place, and we typically hang around with our guest and have meals together.
Punta Cuchillo is a small non touristy village, but we are conveniently close to the ferry and buses.
It is a safe neighbourhood, and you'll get a feel of a typical Costa Rican lifestyle. Since there are very few people living here we still have an abundance of wild life. Prepare yourself to meet monkeys, anteaters, skunks, armadillis, butterflies, bats, parrots and a lot of other wildlife.
We are based 1,5 km from the Paquera ferry landing.
There are buses leaving several times a day from there, and you will always find a taxi there as well.
We had an incredible stay with Vigdis and Thomas! We arrived midday and walked up from the ferry landing- a steep walk, but great views along the way. The treehouse is perched up high on the bluff with vistas in each direction and several hundred stairs leading down to the water and private beach. Lovely experience on a night time bioluminescent kayak tour and memorable day on the water pursuing trophy-sized rooster fish with Thomas, snorkeling Isla de Tortuga and meeting up with some howler monkeys along the coast. Vigdis prepared a fantastic home cooked meal for us and it was a great experience learning about their transition to life on the Nicoya Peninsula. We will definitely be back the next time we visit the area. Be sure to check out their website for great information on the charters, tours and activities they offer. Thanks Vigdis and Thomas!
These picture are real! It really is that beautiful. It is a little piece of paradise which Vigdis and Thomas share. They are kind and relaxed hosts, they will feed you, set you up on a lovely snorkelling or fishing trip and I would have stayed for a week. If you're not driving, then it's better to bring some food with you as there isn't much within walking distance. But that is why it is such a special place! Oh and we loved the animals too. Oh and super clean.
My friend and I had a great time staying here. Thomas and Vigdis were welcoming and there whenever we needed something. The beach area is very nice. Breakfast was great! We recommend the bioluminescence kayaking tour. You will be impressed.
We had a wonderful time at Vigdis & Thomas plase. The view is splendid and the cosy house offers a real & unique experience ... very close to the beach ! Do not hesitate to stay with them for diner & various activities such as snorkling or boat tour around the beautiful peninsula.
Thanks a lot Vigdis & Thomas, all the best for the future. We'll keep very good souvenirs from our stay
Vigdis and Thomas's place was incredible! It was a truly a treehouse surrounded by nature that felt isolated even though it is a 10 minute drive from the ferry. We awoke to the sounds of monkeys and birds and to watching monkeys hop from tree to tree while relaxing on hammocks on the balcony. The property is beautiful and breakfast with Vigdis was a wonderful introduction to Costa Rica (and Costa Rican coffee!) for us. She really made us feel welcome. Our only regret is that we didn't plan to stay here longer and take advantage of some of their kayaking trips. Definitely a "not-to-miss" type of place and an unforgettable addition to any trip.
Really, really loved this place. Opposite from hotel living. Highly recommend one pays extra $$s to take the whole place vs just one room to fully enjoy...creaky floors. Highly recommend booking their night kayak tour to fully enjoy nature...ocean water efflorescence flows down your forearm.
Bahía Rica is privately owned by a Norwegian couple, whose purpose is to offer a memorable stay in Costa Rica in a real jungle setting. The Gulf of Nicoya is the perfect place to offer this, and at Bahía Rica the combination of comfort and rustic jungle is perfectly balanced. This balance integrates services, nature and animal expereinces, sports and recreational activities – all in one place.
