About this listing
Our artsy wooden house is perfect for people that enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the main tourist trails. The place is perfect for relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the jungle sounds, or you can go a kayak or fishing tour with us.
Bahía Rica Fishing & Kayak Lodge is at Punta Cuchillo, Paquera on Costa Rica's west coast. We can accommodate up to 11 guests in our artsy wooden house. We are renting out the rooms in the house as a Bed & Breakfast.
The house has 3 rooms, and you SHARE a kitchen and the bathroom with other guests. Each room has a double and a single bed. We also have a separate small cabin that accommodates 2 persons (the "bamboo room"). You still share the bathroom with the other 3 rooms.
Note! It shows as fully booked in the AirBnB calendar even though maybe only one room has been reserved. So if the dates you would like to come don't show up as available, please just contact us to check - we might still have room.
Be aware that the guesthouse is based on a hill, and to get down to the beach area and breakfast area you have to walk a LONG stairway (256 steps). So if you have issues walking stairs, this would not be the place for you.
Bahía Rica kayak and fishing lodge is based on the properties of La Nicoyana a small private nature reserve. So it is very pristine. At Bahía Rica we live close to the nature and take pride in protecting our surroundings.
The guest house has two balconies with nice hammocks, a little library and some board games. There is a small kitchen if you want to cook for yourself, or you can order DINNER from us for $15 per person (We do NOT cook lunch). We do home cooked meals on request.
You have free coffee and tea available at the guest house, and we have good drinking water right from the tap.
From the guest house (and the bamboo room) you have to walk over 250 steps to get down to the common area close to the beach - but it is well worth it as we have our own tranquil beach with palm trees.
We offer several tours as well (please ask for availability and prices):
Bioluminescent night kayaking (when there is no full moon)
Sunset & Full moon kayaking (during the week of full moon)
SUP - Stand Up Paddleboarding
Boat tours to Isla Tortuga with snorkeling
Boat tours to Isla San Lucas (the prison island)
Snorkeling and monkey boat tours
Whale and dolphin watching tours
Interaction with guests
Bahia Rica is a small family run place, and we typically hang around with our guest and have meals together.
We are a Norwegian couple. We decieded to follow our dream and settled in Costa Rica in 2007 to start up our fishing and kayak lodge.
Other things to note
Breakfast is included in the price.
Options for other meals:
1) There is a small kitchen in the guesthouse so you can cook for yourselves. Be advised that the closest grocery store is 8km away, in the little town of Paquera
2) We cook dinner on request ($15 per person) - please check with us as it is not available every night
3) Pizza delivery
4) Casa de Manito - a local restaurant 5 min walk from our place
5) Go to one of the resturants in the little town of Paquera
(There is also a small restaurant close to the ferry landing that is open until 4pm - only 1,5 m to walk)
6) Have a fancy dinner at Isla Chiquita. The island is located right in front of us and you can get there by renting a kayak from us, or order boat pick-up from the restaurant
Please do not smoke in our rooms.
Be aware that it is a wooden house with floor that creaks, with a lot of open space. So if there are other guests staying at the guesthouse at the same time as you - please be concsiderate.
No pets allowed, as we have cats and dogs that are protective of their space.
The guesthouse has only ONE BATHROOM, so be prepared to SHARE it with other guests.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.

Bahía Rica Fishing & Kayak Lodge is privately owned by a Norwegian couple, whose purpose is to offer a memorable stay in Costa Rica in a real jungle setting. The Gulf of Nicoya is the perfect place to offer this, and at Bahía Rica the combination of comfort and rustic jungle is perfectly balanced. This balance integrates services, nature and animal expereinces, sports and recreational activities – all in one place.
