About this listing

Our artsy wooden house is perfect for people that enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the main tourist trails. The place is perfect for relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the jungle sounds, or you can go a kayak or fishing tour with us.

The space

Bahía Rica Fishing & Kayak Lodge is at Punta Cuchillo, Paquera on Costa Rica's west coast. We can accommodate up to 11 guests in our artsy wooden house. We are renting out the rooms in the house as a Bed & Breakfast.

The house has 3 rooms, and you SHARE a kitchen and the bathroom with other guests. Each room has a double and a single bed. We also have a separate small cabin that accommodates 2 persons (the "bamboo room"). You still share the bathroom with the other 3 rooms.

Note! It shows as fully booked in the AirBnB calendar even though maybe only one room has been reserved. So if the dates you would like to come don't show up as available, please just contact us to check - we might still have room.

Be aware that the guesthouse is based on a hill, and to get down to the beach area and breakfast area you have to walk a LONG stairway (256 steps). So if you have issues walking stairs, this would not be the place for you.

Bahía Rica kayak and fishing lodge is based on the properties of La Nicoyana a small private nature reserve. So it is very pristine. At Bahía Rica we live close to the nature and take pride in protecting our surroundings.

Guest access

The guest house has two balconies with nice hammocks, a little library and some board games. There is a small kitchen if you want to cook for yourself, or you can order DINNER from us for $15 per person (We do NOT cook lunch). We do home cooked meals on request.

You have free coffee and tea available at the guest house, and we have good drinking water right from the tap.

From the guest house (and the bamboo room) you have to walk over 250 steps to get down to the common area close to the beach - but it is well worth it as we have our own tranquil beach with palm trees.

We offer several tours as well (please ask for availability and prices):
Sport fishing
Sea kayaking
Bioluminescent night kayaking (when there is no full moon)
Sunset & Full moon kayaking (during the week of full moon)
SUP - Stand Up Paddleboarding
Boat tours to Isla Tortuga with snorkeling
Boat tours to Isla San Lucas (the prison island)
Snorkeling and monkey boat tours
Whale and dolphin watching tours

Interaction with guests

Bahia Rica is a small family run place, and we typically hang around with our guest and have meals together.
We are a Norwegian couple. We decieded to follow our dream and settled in Costa Rica in 2007 to start up our fishing and kayak lodge.

Other things to note

Breakfast is included in the price.
Options for other meals:
1) There is a small kitchen in the guesthouse so you can cook for yourselves. Be advised that the closest grocery store is 8km away, in the little town of Paquera
2) We cook dinner on request ($15 per person) - please check with us as it is not available every night
3) Pizza delivery
4) Casa de Manito - a local restaurant 5 min walk from our place
5) Go to one of the resturants in the little town of Paquera
(There is also a small restaurant close to the ferry landing that is open until 4pm - only 1,5 m to walk)
6) Have a fancy dinner at Isla Chiquita. The island is located right in front of us and you can get there by renting a kayak from us, or order boat pick-up from the restaurant

Its a really nice place. I can recomand it. A nice and creatively dekorated house made of wood. It is lokated in the middle of nature, you have many green and few other people around you - just reaching the next shop or restaurant is complikated without car. With car it is no problem. At my arrivalday i saw a family of monkeys in the garden, great :), you also hear them at night. The meal was realy good. I did the bioluminiscencetour, that was great.

The location is amazing, with a private beach/bay and tons of wildlife right around the property. We saw howler monkeys, baby owls, armadillos, sting rays, puffer fish, and the bioluminescent algae from the property and connected bay. If you want a spot near nature this is perfect. The hosts were great as well and offer a huge range if services if you want them (kayaking tours, island tours, fishing, dinners, SUP rentals, etc) and breakfast is free. All around and amazing experience, would stay here again if I was back in the area!

Amazing place, great hosts, close to nature with plenty of opportunities to enjoy la Pura Vida from a base camp where the jungle meets the beach.

What an amazing experience at Bahia Rica!!! Highly highly recommend it! Vigdis and Thomas were so helpful and welcoming! They both went the extra mile to make sure we had a wonderful stay! They food was so delicious...fresh fish caught by Thomas prepared to perfection by Vigdis! It was the most relaxing stay of our trip!! We booked with them specifically for the bioluminescent night kayaking and let me say...we were NOT disappointed! Eddie was extremely helpful and fun! It is a bit rustic (no AC, but they did provide plenty of fans) and like they advertise, you share a bathroom and kitchen but it wasn't a bother for us at all as the other guests were friendly and enjoyable to get to know. It was peaceful and filled with wildlife! The stairs were my least favorite part as we had hot and humid days during our stay...but as Vigdis (URL HIDDEN) helps you plan ahead so you only have to make one trip a day! LOVED Bahia Rica...will return one day I am certain! :) Thanks again for everything Vigdis and Thomas!

Hi Diane!I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time here with us! We had a great time with you and Grant. We hope to have you back again one day, and tell Grant that Thomas says that he'll be grooming the Roosterfish for him to catch next time he comes down ;o)

The Gulf of Nicoya is the perfect place to offer this, and at Bahía Rica the combination of comfort and rustic jungle is perfectly balanced. This balance integrates services, nature and animal expereinces, sports and recreational activities – all in one place.
