Location

Lake City, Colorado, United States

Lake City is a gateway to some of the most remote and beautiful countryside in America and you’ll often see deer roaming town. The city is located in the San Juan Mountains and is a National Historic District with over 200 buildings listed on the National Historic Register (many of which have historical markers you can visit). It’s one of the most preserved mining communities in the U.S. and located in Hinsdale County, the most remote county in the contiguous U.S.! Lake City is full of turn-of-the-century architecture and visitors can explore the Victorian charm of downtown with over 75 buildings from the late 1800s – including the oldest courthouse and church on the Western Slope of Colorado! There’s also a public library, museum, movie theater, soda shop, ATV/Jeep rentals, fly fishing shops and several grocery stores with reasonable prices! Within a few minutes’ drive are tons of opportunities for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, and OHV trails around Lake San Cristobal, Slumgullion Pass, Henson Creek, and the Alpine Loop. The Visitor’s Center is just two blocks away and can also provide you with more information on area attractions.
