The Space

Since 2005 we have had the privilege of creating 3 rental villas located in the traditional village of Melayang, 10 minutes drive from Ubud. They all have the same breathtaking views over lush tropical jungle to the sacred Petanu river below .The second to be built was Villa Beji. In Balinese, Beji means a place of holy spring water. Our staff chose the name because of the holy springs located below the villa by the sacred Petanu river. They gather water here here for traditional ceremonies.

Many sites in Melayang are of great spiritual (URL HIDDEN) ancient civilization existed here more than 2,000 years ago. Two stone sarcophagi were unearthed in the village which are estimated to be 2,500 years old and are believed to have contained the bodies of local kings. They can be seen at the Archaeological Museum in Pejeng.

The villa was designed by Ida Bagus Wiadnyana. It was planned with the correct alignments to the holy mountain and blessing ceremonies have been held throughout the building stages in accordance with local traditions.

As far as possible we have used natural materials – local stone, hand-made terracotta floor tiles, coconut wood columns and ironwood shingles for the roof.
Built on two levels, the main entry is on the upper level through an ornately carved Balinese doorway set in a slate wall. The upper level has 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, each with an en-suite with marble tiled floors, terrazzo bath tub and a natural stone open shower area. Queen-sized beds have been made from beautiful Bayur wood by a local craftsman. A large holy banyan tree shades the outdoor terrace which is furnished with black bamboo lounge chairs, a lovly l place to relax and enjoy the lush valley views , the wldlife and the beautiful sunsets.

The lower level contains the kitchen, living room, an area for outdoor dining overlooking the jungle and river, and a patio to the infinity edge pool, gazebo and sunbathing area.

Guest Access

There is a large open-sided pavilion in the garden which can be used for relaxing , meditation or yoga.

The Neighborhood

The Neighbourhood
Melayang is a traditional Balinese Village where you can stroll down the street and see the beautful family compounds- you will probably be invited in to visit by one of the families, and if you happen to be staying when there is a temple ceremony you will be invited to attend.
You will experience age old farming methods and we can show you walks in the rice fields to see planting or threshing, ducks and cows. There is also a path down to the river where you can swim or just sit by the natural springs.
Just 10 minutes away is Ubud centre, home to art museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes. In the neighbouring villages you can watch the island's most accomplished painters, stonemasons, woodcarvers, mask makers and silversmiths at work. The market is open every day selling handicrafts, garments, spices and foods, and Ubud even has its own sacred Monkey Forest. Ubud is the seat of the Sukawati Royal Family; the palace is centrally located and open to the public. There are many cultural performances staged here, in particular the famous Kecak dance, the fire dance, the monkey dance and the Legong dance.
We can arrange yoga, meditation, spa treatments and cooking classes either in Ubud or in-house, as well as visits to healers. For the adventurous we can arrange trekking, cycling and white water rafting.

Getting Around

We can provide an airport pick up for USD40 per car and our driver and car can be used for day tours or sight-seeing for very reasonable rates . Hourly rate in the local area rp 80,000 per car. If you have your own transport we have secure undercover parking. We have a free shuttle to and from Ubud 3 times a day .

Other Things to Note

As in all Balinese houses, daily offerings are made. Every morning our local priest presents flower petal and incense offerings inside every building and at the various house temple shrines within the garden.

The Petanu River is considered sacred by the Balinese and a special temple for the spirits of the river is situated on the slope below the house. Particularly elaborate and beautiful offerings are presented during the full moon period. bodies of
