Private Maine Lakefront Getaway - Swimming! Canoeing! Campfires!
Come hear the loons and the gentle lapping of waves as you relax and take in the quintessential Maine camp experience -- with the comforts of home. You are right on a pristine, quiet lake. Inside, a stone fireplace opens to the living, dining, cooking, and game table areas, all overlooking an expansive lake view directly from the water's edge. Two bedrooms and a sleeping alcove accommodate up to five people, accompanied by one roomy bath with a full tub & shower. Come enjoy the tranquility of a peaceful mountain lake nestled quietly down a country lane. Rest, relax, rejuvenate, and leave all the busy-ness behind. Your 200 feet of private shore and private dock give you ample opportunity to explore the shallows and swim in privacy. Then, slip the canoe into the lake and enjoy a paddle out along the lake's open waters or its coves and opposite shores. There are no jet skis to disturb you or the loons on this 180-acre 'pond' in a quiet corner of Maine's great countryside. Not far from all Portland, Freeport and Conway have to offer -- yet away from it all.
Enjoy starlit skies, visiting wildlife, swimming, canoeing, fishing (off the dock or on the water). Read a book in an adirondack chair overlooking the view, pick blueberries, savor a lobster dinner or a barbeque on the grille, or settle in for stories and reflection by a campfire with s'mores as the sunset fills the sky over the water.
This Classic Maine Lake Cozy Cottage is one of the rare finds left in Maine that's right on the water and true to its origins. Many old camps and cottages have been snapped up for their location, only to be torn down and replaced with larger homes set 100' or more back from the water. We wanted to keep this little cottage intact, being as it is full of character and only 8 feet from the water's edge. To do so, we had to preserve its original footprint, and keep the total square footage within allowable limits -- including the original boathouse on the water's edge, which is so rare a find these days. So the cottage stands at 28 by 38 feet - cozy indeed -- and maximizes every space for utility while still preserving a sense of openness and ambiance, with warmth by the fire, and a wall of waterview windows to take full advantage of its locale. You can literally step out the back door onto the stone patio and be on the dock in just a few steps more. Bring out a cup of coffee to sip as the sun rises or sets -- and just take in the peaceful call of the loons, the lapping of the water, and the incredibly fresh air. Idyllic!
As a guest at the Classic Maine Lake Cozy Cottage, you have direct access to the lake via your own private dock, with easy steps into the water. You also have a canoe with paddles and life jackets to enjoy paddling around the lake in the early peaceful mornings with the sunrise, the sunny afternoons, or quiet sunset evenings - it's yours to use at any and all times during your stay. There's also a private yard for outdoor fun, and a grille and patio and outdoor dining, as well.
Interaction with Guests
Upon your arrival, you'll use the lockbox code we've provided to unlock the door and let yourself in. You'll be greeted by our Welcome Book with more information that you could imagine about the area and the cottage, as well as the freshness of a professionally-cleaned home.
You have 200' of private shore in this setting. You are secluded but not entirely alone, in that there are other cottage owners tucked in and around the lake who also enjoy the spectacular setting and restorative powers of fresh air, sunshine, and clean water.
You will need a car to get into the Maine Lake Cozy Cottage. You will drive some country roads to get there (quite a pleasant, rural drive for the last bit of the way), and the last mile is an unpaved, but well-cared-for gravel road to the lakeshore's edge.
Other Things to Note
We love Maine and own oceanfront vacation rental property at Acadia National Park, as well as a guest house on our farm in Southern Maine. These enable us to share the oceanfront as well as country and organic farming experience with guests. We've always wanted to add a lakefront experience to our offering, as well as to enjoy ourselves. There is something so special about being right on the water -- both oceanfront and lakefront -- and we couldn't resist snatching up this cute little lakefront cottage when we found it. It's just what one envisions when thinking of a peaceful little cottage on the lake!
No smoking in or around the cottage. No pets are allowed. We don't allow glass containers, either (and in fact provide non-breakable dishes and stemware) since you have a stone patio up to the water's edge, and no one wants broken glass.
I have to say that staying at the Classic Maine Lake Cozy Cottage has been one of my favorite vacations ever! It is beyond relaxing, with the water right outside and the fireplace inside. We were there for 5 days in the beautiful autumn season, and we only left the cottage briefly twice the whole time, since we were enjoying it so much. Peter and Joy Cutrone are amazing hosts! Before we even arrived, they would answer any questions I had within just a few minutes. When we got there, we were amazed at how neat, clean and organized the cottage was. It is also fully equipped with all the essentials you may need for your stay. I would definitely recommend staying there, as we cannot wait to go back!
Peter and Joy have done an outstanding job with the renovation of their cottage. When we arrived it took our breath away. The cottage was spotless and the views from the cottage were unbleavable. Everything was ready for our family's visit, even the firepit out side. We found 1 thing wrong with it, we don't own it. We can't wait to go back next year.
Such a lovely 3 days in an idyllic setting. My husband and I were blown away by the beauty and simplicity of the lake house. The house has everything that you need to have a great stay and the beauty of lake and the surrounding nature should take care of the rest.
Thank you, Christina, for your review We're glad that you found the setting to by idyllic and that you enjoyed the beauty and simplicity! That's just what we want for our guests. We'll consider your suggestion re: checkout time as well, and speak with our cleaner about the possibility. Thanks again, Joy & Peter
What an amazing way to end the summer. The Cozy Cottage was exactly how it was described and even better once we saw the stillness of the lake and heard the sounds of nature breaking the silence of the night. The Cottage was spacious (there were just two of us) and the wood planked walls and floors added a woodsy feel with modern and updated amenities. The dock allowed for relaxing in the sun, fishing, and a spot to launch the canoe to explore the pond. We watched the sun rise and set from the Adirondack chairs situated just a foot from the water's edge. Great kitchen for cooking and ample space for lounging and playing games in the nook under the bunk. The Welcome Book was very detailed with suggestions for where to hike, eat, and explore Maine, along with everything we needed to know about our stay at the Cottage. Joy and Peter were readily available to help or answer questions as well. Love, love love this place!
The cottage was beautiful and everything was modern and new. The lakeside setting was stunning and the use of the canoe was a bonus. Everything was incredibly clean and Peter and Joy had left cleaning products so that we could keep it in that condition. A good bank of DVDs was left for our use and the information brochure for the cottage and the surrounding area was thoughtfully detailed. The whole experience of staying there was wonderfully relaxing and was the highlight of our New England trip!
We had a wonderful stay at the Classic Maine Lake Cozy Cottage. The house was immaculate and very comfortable, and well stocked with all essentials such as towels and all kitchen items.
The cottage sits just next to the lake which made for a very relaxing stay. We also enjoyed the canoe!
Our host's left a very comprehensive binder that included helpful tips on the area, any important information we needed about the cottage and recommendations on restarts and other local tips.
