The Yurt is an extraordinary refuge from the frenzy of the city. Securely set high (7600ft) among mountains, the views stretch out in all directions backing up to the Cibola National Forest. Elk, deer, coyotes, and many birds share their land with us. The dark night sky is breathtaking. The yurt is off-the-grid, lit by soft oil lamps after sunset. We welcome all who travel here, eager to share the gifts of this wild place with warm hospitality.

The space
While there is no running water at the yurt, when we are on the property, guests are welcome to use the shower, laundry and wifi at our home 2/10ths of a mile up the road. In cold weather a small Mørso wood stove keeps the yurt cozy. Wood is provided!

We also have an outside hot-tub under the stars at the house. You are welcome to take a soak by day or night. Bring bathing suits, or go au naturelle! We promise not to peek. Towels on the premises.

The site is pet-friendly but unfenced. Please don't let your dogs chase the elk or deer. After dark you will want to keep your animals inside. We ask that you not let them on the bed or easy chairs. It takes a lot of water to clean all the dog hair off the bedding.

Datil, New Mexico, United States

The view is incredible with mountains 40 or more miles away across the Plains. The clean concrete deck 2/3 of the way around the yurt invites outdoor eating and presence. Outdoor folding chairs await your use in the yurt by the wood stove.

The yurt is at the high altitude end of the Wildwood subdivision. the entrance of which is 5.8 miles South of the intersection of US 60 and SR 12 in Datil. Datil offers a gas station, a small convenience store, a post office and a restaurant. The yurt is about nine miles from those amenities. Wildwood subdivision contains 10-12 acre lots with a few people and lots of wilderness. The elk and deer outnumber the people by far! Cell reception is spotty but at the yurt Verizon sometimes supports FaceTime.

The packed dirt road around the subdivision is very passable most of the year. In wet seasons, AWD is helpful. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ARRIVE BY DAYLIGHT. We have had to drive around the subdivision looking for lost guests.

During your stay

Carolyn is your main host. A retired Episcopal priest and Spiritual Director, she will honor your need for solitude, or offer a guided retreat with conversation. All spiritual traditions are honored.

For others who would like to weave, a loom might be readied for you to use (with advance notice, and additional charge) .

Our dog Chloe (CockerSpaniel-Retriever) is also happy to welcome you (and your animal companions).

Do it yourself breakfast is provided at the yurt. When convenient, we will be happy to provide a meal at the house. There are basic food supplies: a pantry of canned goods, spices, oil, flour, sugar, coffee and tea at the yurt. You will need to bring your own perishables and food for your meals.
