Our stay in Ada's apartment was really nice. The apartment is amazing and cozy. We could find all the necessary tools for cooking, it is very convenient! The location is in a residential area, but we could find some good restaurants nearby. We didn't have any problem about the neighborhood, it seemed really safe for us. Taking taxi for 'Centro' was super easy, and it cost 10 soles (do not pay more than that). Actually, we used a lot of public transportation, you can find many options in the main avenue (super close too). It was easy, convenient and cheap (0,80 soles). The apartment is in the 4th floor, it can be tiresome if you aren't used to the high altitude (like us). We just had some difficulties about the shower because water was escaping from it. Oh, in the first day we couldn't use wifi, but Karen helped us. Thus, the apartment is affordable an good. We would stay there again for sure. Also, Cusco is an amazing city!
Ada apartment was clean and in a good part of town. The apartment was nicely decorated and had everything we needed during our stay. However, the hot water was not constant especially on cloudy cusco days. Beside the hot water problem we really enjoyed our stay.
There were both pros and cons to this apartment. Things we liked were... It was in a good area; we enjoyed the neighborhood and thought that the combi rides into the centro with the locals made for a very real experience. There was a lot of natural light in the apartment. As many other reviews have noted, Ada Patricia's father was very kind and friendly and warm. When we arrived, there were some snacks and beverages and a booklet to greet us, which are always helpful. We were glad to have a washing machine, and the cevicheria on the first floor of the building was awesome. The apartment was mostly sufficient, and with a few small tweaks, would have been entirely so.
Our biggest complaint was regarding the host's response to our concern about lack of power and water. The apartment lost power multiple times during the month and was completely without running water for many hours literally every single evening during the entire month we stayed. Additionally, the hot water, which was wonderful when it worked, was spotty. We mentioned these problems to Ada Patricia's sister, as we were told to do, but remained flexible and worked around it. Ada Patricia's dad came by and looked at things, but nothing changed. When we brought it up to Ada Patricia at the end of the month, she was completely unapologetic and unwilling to work with us. We have never complained to a host on airbnb before and thought that utter lack of power and water was maybe a fair reason to do so, especially when our rent was 3x what most pay in the neighborhood and the problem was not a city-infrastructure issue, but only the single building we were in. We were quite shocked by the response we received. Airbnb helped us to resolve the issue, and we appreciate their help with the matter, but as a couple who rents our own property out, we would never have dreamed of responding to a renter with so little understanding as this property manager did. Additionally, drinking water and parking are extra costs, $50 a month each, the bed and chairs are uncomfortable, the kitchen is sparsely supplied, and the internet was touch and go.
We have never left a negative review, but felt it fair to be honest about our stay in Cusco. With a little bit of understanding from Ada Patricia, this could be a great option for a budget traveler to the region.
We had a lovely stay in Ada's place. The area is about 20 minutes out of the center but busses and taxi's are frequent and we enjoyed the commute with the local travelers. The apartment had everything we needed in it and the washing machine made a huge difference. When we needed anything, Ada, her sister Nathaly, her brother Alex and their father Ramon, were on hand to sort things out. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this apartment to anyone interested.
Has all the basics, a little on the cold side, but was offered a mini heater for an extra charge which we declined. Some extra smaller item would have helped such as dish detergent, paper towels, hand towels, etc, so we could avoid buying things we wouldnt need to carry to our next destination. Overall the stay was satisfactory.
