The flat is very nice and very near Shibuya. Shu was very kind and helpful.
The room was in a perfect location for downtown Tokyo, not far from Shibuya Crossing. Plenty of high quality restaurants are located within a short stroll, and Shibuya Station is a 5-7 minute walk from the apartment. There was also plenty of space for the two of us as well as an enjoyably warm shower.
We had zero hassle getting into or out of the apartment complex, and we even ran into other airbnb-ers staying at the same complex. The area feels incredibly safe, and we had no issues finding our key or getting into our room.
The portable wifi was incredibly helpful for us in getting around and added to the overall experience.
All in all, a great experience.
Firstly, the toilet and bathroom were clean which made my friends and I happy. Pocket wifi came in handy. It was good that Shu was able to meet up and walk with us to the apartment. IT was more than 10 minutes walk from Shibuya station going against what was said on the listing. But it is still a convenient location to eating places and shopping.
The apartment's floor, bed and futon wasn't very clean. My friend had to vacuum the floor as it was still dusty after the first night as she felt it was hard to breathe - she has asthma. There were hair left on the futon. The 2 pillows were good as gone - too flat and a bit dirty. It needed to be changed. For 4 ppl it was quite a squeeze but it would have fit for 3 ppl.
It wasn't until the day before the check in date that we were able to get the address of the apartment and only when Shu brought us to the apartment that we obtained the key and passcodes to enter the apartment. So downside is that planning beforehand to get to this place would be difficult as you won't be able to get the address etc. until the check in date itself. I was only lucky that the place I was at before had Wifi and I was able to connect to Wifi at Shibuya station so I was able to contact him on the check in day.
First of all we had difficulties locating the place. The host should check his email as this is the most likely form of contact between us. I feel the host could have met up with us to at least show us the place and inform us of the facilities of the place.
Shu was easy to contact through Airbnb messages and Line. We were able to communicate before, during, and after the trip. He extended an invitation to meet up on the first night (maybe show us around) but we already had plans. We stayed 4 nights without a hitch - even if we checked in late at night and got out early in the morning.
PROS: near stations, near small bars/restos, nice quiet neighborhood, near convenience stores, heaters, pocket wifi, lots of shelves/space for stuff
CONS: no fridge (didn't need one cuz it was cold out but in summer...), no hairdryer (very much a guy apartment), bathroom might be tough for tall people
Other observations: fits 3pax to be comfy, 4 is a little tight. Everything is easy to operate and figure out but the writing is all in Japanese (heater remote, shower buttons). Might be helpful to have a checklist for renters (like a complete guideline for the stay - where trash goes etc. so we don't have to message so often)
The room is located near shibuya town but it's quite small for 4 people. The room was clean and good for stay. I recommend!!

About the Host, Shu
Hi, my name is Shu. I was born in Japan but I grew up in Bern, Switzerland until I was three year old. Then, I moved back to Japan. When I was in high school, I joined Magic Johnson basketball camp in Los Anges and then opened my view to the world. I started to study English more to communicate with people from other nationalities. In my second year of Uni, I went to Bangladesh to make toilets as a volunteer worker and enjoyed the big difference in all the aspects with Japan. I started to have more interest in Asia afterwards, even though i traveled in Europe to remember my childhood in Bern and bought a moutain bicycle in Paris and went to Basel at the border between Germany, France, and Switzerland, taking 2 weeeks. Then, I traveled in India, Cambodia, Thailand and so on. I have done also exchange program in Thailand for a year. After graduation from Uni in Japan, i worked for a couple of trading and manufacturing companies and always enjoy working with overseas. Between jobs, I went to Australia for a year with a working holiday visa, as a backpacker driving Ford Falcon around the continent and joined Peace Boat to travel over 25 countries as an interpreter. I do love traveling. I want to travel more. I had great time in Australia to be a tour guide at the Ayers Rock, entertaining the guest. Hope u would have great time in Japan and leave nice memory. Thanks for reading long introduction.
