The Space

One Block off of South Congress with all that SOCO has to offer around the corner. The Continental Club, Hotel San Jose, Joe's Coffee, Amy's Ice Cream, Guerros, and Home Slice Pizza are a few blocks away. This is a private bedroom with a double bed and in suite bathroom. There are several patios and outdoor seating option as well.
The kitchen is available to guests any time. There is also Magnolia Cafe ( open 24hours) less than a block away.
High Speed WIFI and Cable TV available all the time.
Please see my other listings if you can't book the dates you are looking for here. I have two other nice private rooms available . There's plenty of room for everyone it's A four bedroom home.

Once you are settled into the house most things are accessible on foot. Down Town is about one mile. Taxis to D.T. are about $7 each way. There is also a bus stop less than a block from the house. The bus goes straight down Congress to 6th street, the Capital Bld, and UT Campus.

International guests are welcome. As a frequent traveler I have friends all over the world and know what it's like to be in a new country. I speak Spanish and get by in Mandarin Chinese

You can expect a great location, nice people and plenty to do with in walking distance. There are usually one or more international guests here and making friends is the best part.
I do have pets including a cat but she is either outside or down stairs and this room is up stairs.

  • Matt is a really warm and welcoming host and on more than one occasion went out of his way to accommodate me. I didn't actually stay at the location mentioned here, I stayed at his other place on West Live Oak St. Matt had a lovely cleaner who I met on my arrival and she does a great job of keeping the place looking spick-and-span. The room I stayed in was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. I had my own bathroom which was lovely. The SoCo area is very safe and has several restaurants and shops worth checking out. On a number of occasions I was told how safe the walk home was and somebody even told me they would let their little sister walk home at 2am without worrying. I'd definitely recommend staying with Matt!

  • Great apartment in an amazing area of Austin. We would highly recommend to any future guests.

  • Matt is very friendly and was very accommodating and understanding with our itinerary. I will be sure to reach out to him again next time.

  • I picked this location specifically because I knew it would be very central since I didn't want to rent a car. It was perfect! We loved the space, it was very quiet and clean. Matt was available and nice to chat with and we loved the cats. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

  • The house itself was very nice. However, the room itself was not quite finished. Matt did his best to make us feel welcome and the overall experience was a good one.

  • Matt's house is at easy walking distance of South Congress - nice restaurants and cafés right around the corner, like Magnolia Café. The house has a welcoming ambiance to it and the upstairs guest bedroom was spacious with a nice private bathroom. Parking by the house was easy to find. Matt's cat visited the guest bedroom often - a nice bonus as I love cats and was missing my own cats back at home. I would stay at Matt's place again.

  • Matt was a helpful host, the room was delightful and his dogs are awesome. Enjoyed my stay.

  • We stayed with Matt at the recommendation of a friend who rented the studio last year. His main house was full so he gave us a room in his second house. (For those with pet allergies - no pets on this property.) Very quiet, very clean, well located. Had our own private bath even though it was in the hall. Matt was nice and very responsive. He was out of town during our stay, but answered all of the questions we had via text, including the location of a spare clean towel:) Would totally stay with him again.

  • The SOCO location was perfect for acessing all South Congress had to offer. We were able to bike from the house all the way into 6th Street and to the bike trails. Bike rentals are available and can be delivered to you. Just down the street on 1st Street was a great local coffee shop. S. Congress is full of great shops, places to eat and drink, The Continental Club has great live music. Don't miss the bat flight at dusk at the bridge. Swift's Attic was a great dining experience and if you want to just chill with a drink visit the Elephant Club down below Swift's.

Matt has several properties. We were a late booking and he was able to help us out with a wonderful room with a walk in closet and in suite bath. The house is clean and the bed was comfortable. The rooms have keyed doors if you are worried about leaving your stuff. We never felt worried about security. There were three rooms at our house on Live Oak and we met several people during our two days with Matt. If you wanted to cook the kitchen has a gas stove. Our house also had a garage that we were able to use. Matt was easy to reach by phone, text or airbnb.

About
I live in Austin Texas but grew up in Eugene Oregon. I've lived in Colorado for many years and Asia for two years. I'm a photographer, a skier, a cyclist and a climber who loves the mountains. Traveling and meeting interesting new people is my favorite part of life. Airbnb is a great way to make both things happen. I'm always happy to meet other travels and swap stories even if you're not staying with me. I've lived in Austin for a long time and know it well if you're looking for advice. I keep my house pretty nice but love to rough it when I travel. My favorite places are Haiti, China, India and Eastern Europe. We're not here for a long time, so we might as well be here for a good time.
