1) Have fun, and use common sense. From my experience people are courteous and considerate when staying with me. I want people to be happy here and haven't found the need to lay down any specific rules. Guests here are given access to the front door anytime they want day or night so please just be quite if coming late. If you drive don't block the neighbors driveway etc. Just common sense stuff like that. So back to the first thing. Have Fun. Austin is great town to let your hair down in. There are more Restaurants bars and shops than you could see in a month near by. And you can walk to all of them if you don't mind using your feet. So enjoy!
Its a nice house, comfortable room, close to town and best of all the owner is a great guy.
This was our first trip and booking through AirBnB. We were very grateful that Matt was willing to allow first-timers stay with him. We unfortunately didn't meet him during our stay but has a great time while we were there! The house is beautiful and couldn't have been in a better location. There is a lot of nice art on the walls and the bookshelves have tons of interesting things to read. The house is right in a very fun part of south congress close to restaurants, bars and shopping. Plus it's very easy to get downtown or, if you have a car, to places outside of the city. Everything we needed was provided for us, there was a very nice kitchen that we didn't use but had all the things you'd need to cook. The room, while not exactly how it was pictured, was cute and perfect for us. The attached private bath was nice to have also. There were two very sweet kitties that we enjoyed having cuddle up with us when we were in the living room. Overall it was a great experience and Matt's home made it that much more comfortable for us first time visitors to Austin.
My wife and I are travelling in the USA and are both new to AirBnB. My wife tried to book a room and although she was in contact with the host there was a technical glitch with her AirBnB verification process which prevented her from booking. I opened an account and proceeded to book the room. When we got to the house the room that we had been put in was not the room advertised nor did it have an en suite. We had booked and paid for "a mini suite". What we got was a single room with a shower. I contacted Matt the host via text and he said the advertised room was booked. I said that surely the rate for a single room can't be the same as a mini suite? In fairness, Matt did say if we weren't happy we could cancel there and then he also said that he had held a room in good faith from the text contact with my wife. We decided to stay given that we had been driving all day, it was late and we didn't know Austin. Again, by text we agreed that Matt would adjust the rate but no sum was mentioned. Austin is a great town and we had a very comfortable stay, Matt has a lovely home in a leafy street situated just off South Congress. After we checked out I got a text message from Matt telling me that the advertised rate for the mini suite was wrong and the single room we stayed in was in fact more. Matt offered and I accepted a refund of $30. I had paid AirBnB in £'s and for the two nights it worked out at £199 ( $320). With the refund it means that I will have paid $290 for a double room for two nights. I started by saying that I am new to AirBnB and how it works and I did accept Matt's offered refund. However, I can't help feeling that Matt's pricing policy and explanation leave something to be desired. If it had been possible to meet Matt then perhaps things would have been clearer. As it was all communication was via text. In summary, a lovely home in a great location but make sure that what you book is what you get and check the rate. Caveat emptor (buyer beware). Stephen

About the Host, SoCoBnB /Matt
I live in Austin Texas but grew up in Eugene Oregon. I've lived in Colorado for many years and Asia for two years. I'm a photographer, a skier, a cyclist and a climber who loves the mountains. Traveling and meeting interesting new people is my favorite part of life. Airbnb is a great way to make both things happen. I'm always happy to meet other travels and swap stories even if you're not staying with me. I've lived in Austin for a long time and know it well if you're looking for advice.
I keep my house pretty nice but love to rough it when I travel. My favorite places are Haiti, China, India and Eastern Europe.
We're not here for a long time, so we might as well be here for a good time.
