Ours is an inviting, sunlit, comfy room 1 to 2 miles from the Zoo, Art & History Museums, Science Center, MUNY theatre, Washington U, and the Loop's live music, restaurants/cafes and shops! Rt 64 is 1/4 mile away for quick, direct access to downtown!
filtered water w/i the room, fruit and baked goods (downstairs in the kitchen) to greet weary travelers like you
A gem of a spot! Our quaint house built in 1904 is a bright and airy space situated on a roomy corner lot for relaxing after exploring St. Louis city or county. We offer a cozy and private room in our 2 bedroom 1 bath Dogtown/Franz Park home. Your cottage style upstairs room comes fully furnished with a comfy full size bed, allergen encasing, great sheets and fresh towels. For longer stays there is a closet in the room. Ours is a safe and quiet local neighborhood with plenty of trees and greenery.
There is no elevator, so unfortunately we are not handicapped accessible :/ sorry!
Continental breakfast goodies are provided through assorted teas, coffee, fruit, cereals and baked goods. If you have gluten restrictions please let us know so we can accommodate accordingly.
Guests can feel free to enjoy breakfast upstairs after heating up hot water or grabbing any fridge items such as milk (we always have almond, rice or soy on hand), etc - or enjoy your breakfast downstairs in the kitchen.
Feel free to bring any breakfast items for yourself beyond the basics provided and cook. Staples are yours to use such as butter, almond milk, sugar, spices, etc. You're welcome to use the fridge, oven or stove to cook other meals beyond breakfast, and otherwise feel free to utilize spaces in the house with respect to our work schedules.
Free Wireless Internet is provided throughout the house.
There is free and safe street side parking right next to our home.
Guests have use of a shared bathroom with us (located across the hall) including a tub and shower. Please note that our home has 1 bathroom only.
Interaction with Guests
We are just as comfortable leaving you alone as we are making ourselves available for any assistance or information needed to make your time in St. Louis a happy one. We both work a bunch (and often have on call shifts) and therefore guests need to be fairly self-regulating and independent.
At the bottom of this listing is a map showing our location and surrounding vicinity. Please use this tool to familiarize yourself. We have compiled a guidebook of our favorite places on this map indicated through icons and flags. This will familiarize yourself with all that is at your fingertips. We also have maps, local magazines and menus in the room for your use.
Within short walking or driving distance are Dogtown's staple local dive bars such as Pat's Tavern, Felix's, Seamus McDaniel's, Heavy Riff brew company boasting live music, Hi-pointe theatre open since 1922, Urban Breath yoga studio and delicious Sugaree bakery. The Delmar Loop with Blueberry Hill, Tivoli theatre, Pagent concert hall and Forest Park are also within walking distance for those with good shoes, bicycles or car.
We are available for transport to and from the airport, railroad or central bus stations for a small fee of 10$ each way (20$ round trip) depending on our availability.
We're located about a 1 mile drive or walk to Forest Park, the St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art Museum, History Museum, and Washington University. We are about two miles to the Delmar Loop an entertainment, cultural and restaurant district named one of the 10 Greatest Streets in America.
We're also less than a minute away from Highway 64, which you can use to access the downtown to see the arch or City Museum (10 minute drive), airport (20 minute drive), or practically any other place in St. Louis. The stop for the 59 bus straight to the Central West End (a well-known, walkable, hip section of St. Louis with many eateries and shops) is a block away taking 30 minutes and arriving every 40 minutes. Nationally recognized Barnes-Jewish Hospital is located here as well. The Central West End borders Forest Park, so you can spend a busy day shopping and walk over to the park for some rest and relaxation!
Shaw neighborhood with the lovely Botanical Gardens is about three miles and finally antiquing on Cherokee street is about 7 miles away.
Unlike more metro-ly inclined cities if you're without car a 3 mile journey via bus in STL takes about an hour. Alternatively the Skinker/Forest Park metro line is about a mile or so from our home which takes you down to the arch and to the airport. A ten minute walk from our home connects you to the #16 bus which takes you to the Skinker/Forest Park Metrolink.
If we happen to be around and you are a carless traveler it is our pleasure to drop you off to ensure your visiting time is maximized!
Other Things to Note
If you have more than two people in your party please see our other listing (Cottage Room and Sleep Nook for 3+) which can accommodate up to 4 people within two separate rooms.
Please have a completed profile before making a booking or request with us. If there is anybody else staying with you and they don't have a profile can you adequately introduce who they are and tell us a little something about them.
We do not typically allow guests to bring their pets except under preapproved conditions including a cleaning fee of 10$. Please inquire in your booking request before showing up with your pet.
We love our place and hope you treat it with love and kindness too! We simply ask that you be conscious that this is our home and not simply a hotel or rooming house; we would like you to treat it with respect and decorum as our guest. For example: please don't expect to use our living room as your personal office space to loudly conduct phone business, nor our kitchen as the craft staging grounds for a bachelorette party you may be planning. If you arrive late please don't shower in the middle of the night as you will wake the house up. Additionally if you plan to arrive after 9pm please have the decency to communicate your plans to us. You are renting a room in our home, not our whole home. Although you are welcome to use other parts of our home please be aware that it is not a hotel for your personal use. We believe the spirit of Airbnb is that we welcome you into our home at a cost effective price for you and that in return you treat it with more respect than you would a hotel room.
We are a non smoking home and would prefer non smokers, or light smokers who are able to enjoy their cigarettes outside the vicinity of our home. If you are a heavy smoker please we ask that you seek accommodation elsewhere as the impact to our home and guest room is not conducive to the environment we strive to keep.
Amanda and Rich are very welcoming and accommodating! Rich was willing to pick me up from the Amtrak station, which was super helpful! (Don't forget to pay the $10 if you do use their transportation!)
It was rainy one morning and Amanda set out a rain jacket and an umbrella for me if I needed it, which was very thoughtful!
Quiet. Friendly environment. Bottle of water was a very nice touch. Will stay again!
Perfect place! Great location!
I stayed here for just 1 night in March and have only the most positive of things to say about their home, their warm hospitality, and their kindness in helping me plan the logistics of my trip even before my arrival. Rich was incredibly accommodating, and their beautiful dog was a gentle and friendly companion. They are conveniently located near public transit (and the highway) and the zoo. :) Thank you for making my stay so relaxing and enjoyable!
Amanda and Rich are very nice people. They offered to drive us to the airport and were very nice and helpful answering my questions on St. Louis neighborhoods. The house was rather easy to find. The room has a very comfortable bed, although the house was a bit cold for us warm-blooded Californians. Their dog Bailey is so cute! We enjoyed playing with her, as we were missing our own dog back home. Our overall stay was rather enjoyable.
The hosts were very friendly and offered all necessary information. Room is very clean, and a lot of complimentary stuff for travellers.
We had a very comfortable stay with Amanda and Rich! Their place is very conveniently located -- close to Forest Park, the Loop and Washington University. They were warm, welcome hosts and we would definitely stay with them again!
