Our closets hangout is Bar do Serginho about 3 minutes walk away, where you can buy food, beverage and other basics you might need, as well as have capuchino and hot sandwiches for breakfast, or pizza, capirinhas and beers while you shoot the breeze like the locals.
We are less a 10 minute walk to Largo do Guimarães. the centre of Santa Teresa, where you will find shops, restaurants and a funky 50 person cinema which plays independent films. You can take the bus down to Centro, or walk 15 minutes down the hill to Gloria Subway, or to Lapa. We had a great stay at Jennifer's and Helcio's place. The view is spectacular, both from the apartment, the hammock and the garden. Such a nice vibe in the neighborhood, we could easily spend the rest of winter here :-)
This is my second time staying at Jennifer's flat. Excellent as usual. Great location with easy walking distance to bars and restaurants in Santa Teresa. 10-15 minute walk to metro. On a quiet dead end street with a great view over the city centre. Taxi's are easy to call and come within 3-10 minutes. Clean, comfortable, airy and lots of light just like the pictures. Wifi is excellent.
Dear Jennifer & Helcio,
We want to thank you for the amazing stay in your studio in Rio. You made us feel at home and you took great care of us when we arrived after a long trip. The studio, the garden and the view are better than the pictures. Good luck with these busy times for you two and we hope to be back sometime.

We were staying in Rio for a few weeks and decided to try out Jennifer's studio after renting a place in Copacabana. It was a very refreshing change of pace. The neighborhood is very unique and reminiscent of a mix between San Francisco and the Greek Islands, with the color and culture of Rio sprinkled in. There is fantastic food very nearby and while it is probably not completely advised, I felt safe walking around at night. The studio is also very conveniently located near the Lapa nightlife as well as several tourist locations such as the Selaron steps - which are only a 5 minute walk.
In addition to the location being perfect, the studio was gorgeous. The views were fantastic, the garden was an excellent spot for breakfast or brunch, and the room was airy and very well lit. It was a little bit hot without a/c but we were also there during one of the hottest weeks of the year, and the large windows allowed for a decent amount of convection with the fan on. Since the windows are likely going to be open, I would suggest bringing bug spray if you tend to get bit.
The hosts were also more than accommodating. They are a very warm and friendly couple with two beautiful children. They live in the house above and were quick to help with either suggestions or advice about the area. They went above and beyond to assist us with booking a flight to Sao Paulo and making reservations (we had no phone).
I would highly recommend this place, it has so far been my favorite Airbnb location.
About the Host, Jennifer
The studio is owned by myself, a Canadian who has lived in Rio for 8 years, and my husband, a native carioca (local from Rio de Janeiro). We both work in the arts, are passionate about the city, and love to recommend off the beaten track places and events that most tourists never hear about. This is an awesome city is if you know a few people and your way around. I love to bring renters to the awesome bilingual yoga classes I can't live without, and my husband can't bear for people to leave the city until they have fallen in love with it!
