The Space

Welcome!

We enjoy hosting fun worldly travellers in our wonderful home.

Our home is situated 10 mins drive from the city centre (i.e. close but not too close!) and directly at the gateway to the Otago Peninsula, famous for Larnach's Castle, the Albatross colony, penguins, seals, and one of the top 10 cycle roads in the world (according to Lonely Planet!).

Staying with us offers you great views, a comfortable room, outdoor spa (otherwise known as a hot tub or jacuzzi), relaxed atmosphere, great kitchen, friendly local advice, and most importantly a peaceful nights sleep.

If you're travelling with a friend or in a group of 3 or 4, we have a second room available (please see our other listing for details!). If you have any other requests, just ask, and we'll see what we can do!

We're well travelled - and enjoy outdoorsy stuff, music, hosting, meeting new people, learning new things, gardening, playing sport, reading, brewing beer, eating nice food and drinking nice wine!

Dunedin is both under-rated and awesome. Whether you're into culture, architecture, outdoor activities, wildlife, history, a fun nightlife, or a quiet relaxing getaway, Dunedin has it all. I'd say more, but I don't want to give it all away - you've gotta come check it out for yourself!!

If you're travelling around the South Island, Dunedin is 5 hours from Christchurch, 3 hours from Queenstown, and 2 hours from Invercargill. If you're arriving from (or heading to) the Dunedin airport, it's an easy 30 minute drive to our home (we recommend the supershuttle, it's way cheaper than a taxi, and doesn't take much longer).

We look forward to meeting you soon!!

Kind regards,
Steve and Elke

PS: are you planning to stay in Queenstown while in New Zealand? We recommend staying with our friend Philip who is also an AirBnB host: http://www.airbnb.co.nz/rooms/951960

  • Steve and Elke are fantastic hosts!! Very very friendly, helpful and you can ask them whatever you want to know, you'll definitely get a great answer! They'll help you planing your trips and try to explain you the bus timetable as well, which isn't easy :D One morning I had to get to the city centre so Steve picked me up very early on a sunday morning and took me there. Just to give an example of there friendliness. The room was very clean (just everything in the house) and everythink was like in their discription.
You want to stay in Dunedin for a few nights? This is the right address!
Wish you all the best in the future with everything,

About
I've already written a wee bit about us in the general profile section, so check that out first... My favourite travel destinations (outside of NZ) are Peru, Germany and Japan. If you're keen on sharing travel stories over a drink on the deck one sunny evening, I've got plenty of funny - and odd - travel yarns! What are five things I can't life without? Aside from the obvious basics - I "couldn't live without" my iPhone, saxophone, laptop, bed, and snowboard. My favourite book is whatever I'm currently reading. Past favourite books include: Shantaram, The Little Prince, The Pilgrimage, Tuesday's With Morrie, The Prophet, any Dirk Pitt adventure, and most Bill Bryson misadventures. My favourite movies include: Eagle Vs Shark, The Castle, Pulp Fiction, Moulin Rouge, Kill Bill, Babel, In Bruges, Waking Life, In My Father's Den... and a few others that'll come to me tomorrow. Music-wise, I love old school rock to old-time dance, new age hippy stuff to the latest dance music and a bit of grunge and jazz inbetween. Food, I'm open to trying anything once. The worst thing I ever recall eating was Mountain Oysters. Don't even ask... I'm a great host and a great ambassador for New Zealand, but hey, I'm not going to bleat on about it (enter token Kiwi/sheep joke here), you'll soon meet me and make up your own mind about that! If the calendar is blocked out for a bit, it's likely because I'm out hiking for a few days or leading a trip for my travel company - Aspiring Adventures - check it out some time! When I travel, I like to mix up levels of accommodation from camping to the odd luxury lodge. I try to step outside the usual touristy stuff and tackle something a unique (I've climbed the highest peak in Fiji and Ecuador, slept in a cave in Turkey, have a godson in the Peruvian Andes after a trek to visit the "Lost Incas", and stayed with hunter-gatherers in the jungles of Vanuatu...). Hosting - well, hosting is great fun! To sum it up, it's like travelling without having to travel, and if you've ever hosted you'll know just what I mean :) My life motto? Simple really: "have fun out there!"
