The Space

Want to visit San Francisco but aren't into the hotels' tiny, overpriced, and sterile rooms? My Castro home features a larger-than-a-hotel guestroom with YOUR OWN PRIVATE BATHROOM attached, and includes some extras to make your experience a little more luxurious!

**This is a quiet home best suited for quiet guests.**

This (email hidden) to stay if you have a car!! While most SF neighborhoods require a parking permit in order to park for any longer than two hours, my neighborhood has NO PERMIT REQUIREMENTS so you can leave the car for as long as you want! The only thing to check is street parking (Weds 12-2 across the street and Thurs 9-11 on the apartment side of the street).

-- Your own PRIVATE bathroom attached to your bedroom -- only you have access (I have my own)
-- Large, quiet room
-- Private access to backyard with table/chairs, barbecue
-- NO Cleaning fee - and it's very clean!
-- NEW in-room snacks provided
-- Free, unlimited street parking
-- Free self-serve breakfast includes coffee, tea, toast, jam, selection of cold cereals, and breakfast bars to go.
-- Wifi
-- Free local/long distance domestic phone calls
-- Full use of kitchen and living room
-- 5 min. walk to Castro/public transportation; central SF location; 10-15 minute walk to the Mission, Haight Ashbury, Noe Valley; and about 20 min. to Golden Gate Park.
-- Beautiful views of Kite Hill, Eureka Valley, & Twin Peaks
-- To lighten your travel load, I provide shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer, facial soap, body wash, shaving cream, razor, body lotion. (If you forget something let me know and I will get you what you need).
-- Use of washer/dryer, iron and ironing board
-- Very homey and comfortable feel
-- Smoking outside okay
-- 2 mellow cats included - but they are never allowed in the guest bedroom (even when you're not here) in case you have allergies. A lot of guests have allergies...and no problems so far.
-- Book exchange. I have several books available for you to take. If you want to drop one off, that is great, but it's not necessary.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD - NOTE: the house is on a hill so if you aren't comfortable walking up and down it, you can take cabs or find a place not on a hill!

You will be staying on 17th Street - the closest neighborhood is the Castro -- a 5 minute walk to Castro & Market, where most major MUNI lines (K,L,M,T,S and historic street cars) converge. The location is smack dab in the middle of SF which means you are also walking distance to a variety of other awesome neighborhoods including the Mission, Cole Valley, Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury, and Noe Valley. If you don't want to walk - the central location makes cabs affordable. It is a 15 minute trip to Union Square (including the walk to MUNI stop), a 20 minute drive to the Golden Gate Bridge, about a 20 minute drive to Fisherman's Wharf or 30 minutes by MUNI.

There is a great selection of restaurants, bars, and shops that are all walking distance from the house. The Castro Theater - complete with a Wurlitzer organ player - is just a 5 minute walk. Some of the great restaurants just minutes away from the house include Frances (winner of several awards, including a James Beard award), Anchor Oyster Bar, and Chow (a casual, neighborhood restaurant that has something for everyone). The next neighborhood over, only about a 10-15 minute walk, is the Mission which features some of the best restaurants in the city.

The bedroom is spacious, quiet, and serene, and is decorated with local artists' work. It features a private, en-suite bathroom. The queen-sized Posturpedic bed is brand new and has comfy linens including a down comforter and both firm and soft pillows. Relative to the rest of the house, this room gets less light but still has two windows and plenty of lighting in the room.

Set in the back of the house, the room is very private and quiet-- you basically have the whole back of the house to yourself, including private access to a cute, intimate backyard where you can sit after your day (or during your day!) and use the barbecue to make dinner. (I love to barbecue and I can show you how to use it).

Your stay comes complete with two beautiful and extremely mellow cats, Roger and Hank! However, the cats are never allowed in the guest bedroom and most guests with allergies have reported that they had no reaction during their stay. They take some time to warm up to others and often tend to disappear when guests arrive.

The house is newly renovated, very clean and cozy with a modern feel and lots of light. It's on the top floor so I have a nice view of Twin Peaks and Eureka Valley which is especially pretty at night. The kitchen, living room, backyard, and washer/dryer are available for guests to use. While the bedroom does not have a TV, I have a 37" flat screen in the living room that you are more than welcome to use. I have a decent selection of independent films and documentaries if you feel like chilling out and watching a movie.

I've lived in San Francisco for 18 years I am not exaggerating when I say that I am in love with this city. I know the city very well and can help guide you to destinations that are worthwhile (and those that aren't). I hope you will grow to love San Francisco as much as I do.

A cab is about $55 including tip. You can take BART (public transportation) to the 16th Street Station or Civic Center (approx. $8 per person, one way). I suggest you take a cab from there (approx. $7.00) because my place is on a hill which is quite steep at a couple points - you don't want to be lugging your bags up the hill although many guests have done it. SuperShuttle is a "shared ride" airport shuttle that transports several passengers and is cheaper but generally takes longer ($18 for one person; $28 for two).

Guest Access

In addition to your bedroom and bathroom, you will have access to the kitchen, living room, and dining area. Also you have access to all amenities in the kitchen (appliances, pots/pans, and condiments too so you don't have to buy those). You also have access to my TV in the front room where you can use my Netflix account and my Amazon Prime account as well.

Interaction with Guests

I love talking with the guests. However, there are some days when I am not at home at all because I go to school about an hour and a half away. I don't eat meals with guests but I really enjoy hanging out when our schedules align.

  • Chris was a great host and the room and en suite were spotless and beautiful. The neighbourhood is fantastic, safe and lots going on with great views over the bay. Highly recommended for a stay in SF!

  • Chris was a fantastic host and her apartment is so quiet and peaceful. A lovely place to stay in a great neighbourhood. The hill sure gives your legs a work out but the apartment is perfectly positioned walking distance to Golden Gate park, multiple bus lines and the Castro Muni station.

I highly recommend staying with Chris in her lovely apartment.

  • Chris is a wonderful host. She is very friendly and kind too. We had access to the fridge, oven and microwave whenever we needed. Our room was immaculate with some delicious snacks as a bonus. The bathroom is large with many types of toiletries and fresh towels. We had no problem with parking. I also have to mention about Hank and Roger - two beautiful and friendly fur residents of Chris's apartment that we got to know.

  • I can only agree with the previous guests: This was my first time renting a place through Airbnb and I had a really great time at Chris' place! The room and bath are spacious, the bed is comfortable and the rest of the flat is also really nice, with lots of great photos on every wall. The accommodation was very clean and I was impressed by the amount of great books and material on SF, the well equipped bathroom and kitchen, as well as her lovely cats. The place is also really conveniently located in the center of the city, in a very nice neighbourhood. Thanks again for the great weekend!

  • This was my first trip to San Francisco. Thanks to Chris for making my stay not only enjoyable, but one I will not forget. Her attention to detail made my stay very pleasant. I will most definitely return and book her room again! Thanks again for your hospitality!

  • Chris is an amiable host and her place is tastefully put together. She is amazingly thoughtful and goes out her way to ensure almost the needs of the guest are provided for. Chris also makes you feel perfectly welcome at her home. My San Francisco experience could not have been for the better if not for the chance to stay at her place.

  • What a wonderful host ! Chris went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable . Her home is beautiful and in the heart of the Castro . What an amazing view she has . Highly recommend !!!!!

  • My experience was wonderful. At the top of my list is the comfortable bed. I am not the best sleeper when traveling but the bed, bath, room and surroundings are so clean and comfortable that I actually slept better than when I am in my own home. Another highly notable feature is that, Chris and her two cats are just down the hall, but there is a sensation of being with highly pleasant company without any feelings of intrusiveness. The space feels so private without feeling alone. Finally, I felt very comfortable using the kitchen to have a 3:00 a.m. breakfast which eased the jet lag.

  • My wife and I stayed at Chris’ beautiful space during a weekend getaway to San Francisco. This was our first Airbnb experience and we couldn’t be any more pleased. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and in great condition. The communication was excellent from day one. We loved the small details, the human touch: the treats, the books and, oh, the cats. Overall, it was great experience. We would definitely consider staying here again. Thanks, Chris!

  • We can highly recommend the room and the neighbourhood. Chris managed to setup a lovely and charming atmosphere. We really felt at home and had a great time. The apartment is well equipped and it was also great to be allowed to use the facility and condiments in the kitchen e.g in order to prepare breakfast. The public transportation is quite close and the spot is ideal for persons who like to stay a bit out of down town however still in an urban set up. The room is quite and good restaurants and bars are just around the corner. Within a few minutes you can access the golden gate park which is a marvolous spot for a nice morning run.
Chris was not at home while we stayed there but all communication with here was very nice and helpful. The response time was very fast. If we will go back to SF we for sure will nock on Chriss door again.

I am originally from the east coast but moved to San Francisco 18 years ago. I love this city -- it's a magical place with a collective spirit of diversity, creativity, and open-mindedness. I'm currently getting my PhD in sociology where I focus on elites and education. I'm also a freelance photographer for a textbook called Seeing Sociology. I love movies, mostly independent films and documentaries. My favorite films are The Station Agent and American Beauty. My favorite documentary is Baraka (I have all these movies here which you are welcome to watch). Lately I'm into watching LGBT short films - attended Frameline Film Festival here at the Castro just a few days ago. I love to travel. I have driven across country twice in the last few years. My most recent international trip was to Cuba. I love meeting new people and enjoy hearing about people's lives. So I hope we will have a chance to talk while you're here! I love good food too. I do some cooking, but I'm better at knowing where to get good food in the city. I'm a big music fan as well - in fact I have a guitar here you are welcome to play if you know how since I sure haven't been using it lately. I am also up on the best venues to see music in the city if you're interested in that.
