Want to visit San Francisco but aren't into the hotels' tiny, overpriced, and sterile rooms? My Castro home features a larger-than-a-hotel guestroom with YOUR OWN PRIVATE BATHROOM attached, and includes some extras to make your experience a little more luxurious!
**This is a quiet home best suited for quiet guests.**
This is a great place to stay if you have a car!! While most SF neighborhoods require a parking permit in order to park for any longer than two hours, my neighborhood has NO PERMIT REQUIREMENTS so you can leave the car for as long as you want! The only thing to check is street parking (Weds 12-2 across the street and Thurs 9-11 on the apartment side of the street).

THE NEIGHBORHOOD - NOTE: the house is on a hill so if you aren't comfortable walking up and down it, you can take cabs or find a place not on a hill!
You will be staying on 17th Street - the closest neighborhood is the Castro -- a 5 minute walk to Castro & Market, where most major MUNI lines (K,L,M,T,S and historic street cars) converge. The location is smack dab in the middle of SF which means you are also walking distance to a variety of other awesome neighborhoods including the Mission, Cole Valley, Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury, and Noe Valley. If you don't want to walk - the central location makes cabs affordable. It is a 15 minute trip to Union Square (including the walk to MUNI stop), a 20 minute drive to the Golden Gate Bridge, about a 20 minute drive to Fisherman's Wharf or 30 minutes by MUNI.
There is a great selection of restaurants, bars, and shops that are all walking distance from the house. The Castro Theater - complete with a Wurlitzer organ player - is just a 5 minute walk. Some of the great restaurants just minutes away from the house include Frances (winner of several awards, including a James Beard award), Anchor Oyster Bar, and Chow (a casual, neighborhood restaurant that has something for everyone). The next neighborhood over, only about a 10-15 minute walk, is the Mission which features some of the best restaurants in the city.
ABOUT YOUR ROOM & PRIVATE BATHROOM
The bedroom is spacious, quiet, and serene, and is decorated with local artists' work. It features a private, en-suite bathroom. The queen-sized Posturpedic bed is brand new and has comfy linens including a down comforter and both firm and soft pillows. Relative to the rest of the house, this room gets less light but still has two windows and plenty of lighting in the room.
Set in the back of the house, the room is very private and quiet-- you basically have the whole back of the house to yourself, including private access to a cute, intimate backyard where you can sit after your day (or during your day!) and use the barbecue to make dinner. (I love to barbecue and I can show you how to use it).
Your stay comes complete with two beautiful and extremely mellow cats, Roger and Hank! However, the cats are never allowed in the guest bedroom and most guests with allergies have reported that they had no reaction during their stay. They take some time to warm up to others and often tend to disappear when guests arrive.
The house is newly renovated, very clean and cozy with a modern feel and lots of light. It's on the top floor so I have a nice view of Twin Peaks and Eureka Valley which is especially pretty at night. The kitchen, living room, backyard, and washer/dryer are available for guests to use. While the bedroom does not have a TV, I have a 37" flat screen in the living room that you are more than welcome to use. I have a decent selection of independent films and documentaries if you feel like chilling out and watching a movie.
I've lived in San Francisco for 18 years I am not exaggerating when I say that I am in love with this city. I know the city very well and can help guide you to destinations that are worthwhile (and those that aren't). I hope you will grow to love San Francisco as much as I do.
TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT
A cab is about $55 plus tip. You can take BART (public transportation) to the 16th Street Station or Civic Center (approx. $8 per person, one way). I suggest you take a cab from there (approx. $7.00) because my place is on a hill which is quite steep at a couple points - you don't want to be lugging your bags up the hill although many guests have done it. SuperShuttle is a "shared ride" airport shuttle that transports several passengers and is cheaper but generally takes longer ($18 for one person; $28 for two).
In addition to your bedroom and bathroom, you will have access to the kitchen, living room, and dining area. Also you have access to all amenities in the kitchen (appliances, pots/pans, and condiments too so you don't have to buy those). You also have access to my TV in the front room where you can use my Netflix account and my Amazon Prime account as well.

The accommodation was really comfortable. I could relax like my home. Chris was kind enough to provide necessary information about the neighborhood.
Chris created a space that felt like a five star hotel - a wonderful bed, linens, gigantor towels and pristinely clean everything - it really felt like our own place. I seriously think it is my best experience on airbnb yet - I'll go back every time im in sfo. An amazing, amazing place to stay!
Chris' accommodation was just what we needed. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a pleasure to chat with Chris, who gave us lots of useful information on transport, sightseeing and dining. Would be happy to stay again if we get back to San Francisco.
Thank you Chris for everything! Your house and room are beautiful and in such a great location. We loved your kitties too! It was really nice meeting you and I enjoyed our chats. Super comfy bed, in such a spacious room. We were very impressed with how you set up the room, better than most hotels I'd say! And very generous of you to provide your guests with so many thoughtful amenities. Hopefully we make it back to SF soon, thank you again!
Chris was a great host and provided us with practically every amenity we could possibly need. Highly recommended!!
Chris has been such a sweet host! She always made we have whatever we need and also made sure that we would be comfy and be staying in a clean space. Chris' two cats are totally amazing especially that we are cat lovers. The location is also amazing with a great view. Parking is not a problem at all should you guys decide to get a car. I will definitely go back to Chris' place when i go back to SFO.
The reservation was canceled 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Chris was great--smart, interesting, helpful, with a fascinating collection of books--as was her apartment. The room is ample, the bathroom well-stocked, and the bed had plenty of pillows, which I greatly greatly appreciated, being 31 weeks pregnant and not a great sleeper. I liked how it was quiet with few traffic sounds even though it was in an active part of the city. It even had a little lemon tree in the backyard. The apt. Was made ascetic ally pleasing with great sunlight and Chris's fascinating photography as well. My only complaint is that the water didn't get very hot and the main part of the apartment smelled a little like cats and had lots of cat dander. The room itself did not, fortunately, but I guess eating breakfast in the kitchen was enough to set off my husband's asthma. So if you are extremely allergic to cats, don't stay there, but otherwise I would definitely recommend this place
Chris' place was such a privilege to stay at. It really is as nice, comfy, clean and convenient as the description, photos and outstanding reviews suggest!
The bed was so comfy, I slept so much more than I intended - and the snacks that were provided in the room totally hit the spot after a long flight! There was also a very excellent book exchange in the room that was great! Chris was super-helpful with advice on which parts of the Castro and Mission District to go explore - and they are just a short walk away, it was so convenient.
And if anyone is concerned about the cats, I must say, if I hadn't actually physically seen Hank and Roger, I wouldn't have known that there were cats living in this house - it is just *that* clean and tidy.
This is by far the best airbnb I've stayed at, and worth every cent.
My husband and I so enjoyed our two night stay with Chris! Her Castro neighnorhood condo is close to fantastic food and the view from her front window is lovely. We took the opportunity to visit some neighborhood parks which also had beautiful views across San Francisco and the bay.
Chris has a soothing and restrained interior design touch throughout the house and it's perfectly clean. I kept wanting to ask her for housekeeping tips! The room itself was so comfortable we slept more than we meant to. Chris also is intuitive with her wide selection of bathroom toiletries and complimentary snacks. The snacks came in very handy as we were so tired we slept through dinner hours.
Chris was busy while we were there but we really enjoyed getting to know her kitties, Hank and Roger. We hope to return to San Francisco again soon and hope to stay with Chris again!
