Beautiful Castro Room Priv BA, View

Apartment - Private room · 17th St, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States

A modern, cozy, private and quiet bedroom with an en suite bathroom in the Castro. Perfect for a couple. The room is large w/queen-sized bed. I strive to make every guest's stay comfortable by providing snacks, amenities, and kindness.

The Space

Want to visit San Francisco but aren't into the hotels' tiny, overpriced, and sterile rooms? My Castro home features a larger-than-a-hotel guestroom with YOUR OWN PRIVATE BATHROOM attached, and includes some extras to make your experience a little more luxurious!

**This is a quiet home best suited for quiet guests.**

This is a great place to stay if you have a car!! While most SF neighborhoods require a parking permit in order to park for any longer than two hours, my neighborhood has NO PERMIT REQUIREMENTS so you can leave the car for as long as you want! The only thing to check is street parking (Weds 12-2 across the street and Thurs 9-11 on the apartment side of the street).

-- Your own PRIVATE bathroom attached to your bedroom -- only you have access (I have my own)
-- Large, quiet room
-- Private access to backyard with table/chairs, barbecue
-- NO Cleaning fee - and it's very clean!
-- NEW in-room snacks provided
-- Free, unlimited street parking
-- Free self-serve breakfast includes coffee, tea, toast, jam, selection of cold cereals, and breakfast bars to go.
-- Wifi
-- Free local/long distance domestic phone calls
-- Full use of kitchen and living room
-- 5 min. walk to Castro/public transportation; central SF location; 10-15 minute walk to the Mission, Haight Ashbury, Noe Valley; and about 20 min. to Golden Gate Park.
-- Beautiful views of Kite Hill, Eureka Valley, & Twin Peaks
-- To lighten your travel load, I provide shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer, facial soap, body wash, shaving cream, razor, body lotion. (If you forget something let me know and I will get you what you need).
-- Use of washer/dryer, iron and ironing board
-- Very homey and comfortable feel
-- Smoking outside okay
-- 2 mellow cats included - but they are never allowed in the guest bedroom (even when you're not here) in case you have allergies. A lot of guests have allergies...and no problems so far.
-- Book exchange. I have several books available for you to take. If you want to drop one off, that is great, but it's not necessary.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD - NOTE: the house is on a hill so if you aren't comfortable walking up and down it, you can take cabs or find a place not on a hill!

You will be staying on 17th Street - the closest neighborhood is the Castro -- a 5 minute walk to Castro & Market, where most major MUNI lines (K,L,M,T,S and historic street cars) converge. The location is smack dab in the middle of SF which means you are also walking distance to a variety of other awesome neighborhoods including the Mission, Cole Valley, Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury, and Noe Valley. If you don't want to walk - the central location makes cabs affordable. It is a 15 minute trip to Union Square (including the walk to MUNI stop), a 20 minute drive to the Golden Gate Bridge, about a 20 minute drive to Fisherman's Wharf or 30 minutes by MUNI.

There is a great selection of restaurants, bars, and shops that are all walking distance from the house. The Castro Theater - complete with a Wurlitzer organ player - is just a 5 minute walk. Some of the great restaurants just minutes away from the house include Frances (winner of several awards, including a James Beard award), Anchor Oyster Bar, and Chow (a casual, neighborhood restaurant that has something for everyone). The next neighborhood over, only about a 10-15 minute walk, is the Mission which features some of the best restaurants in the city.

The bedroom is spacious, quiet, and serene, and is decorated with local artists' work. It features a private, en-suite bathroom. The queen-sized Posturpedic bed is brand new and has comfy linens including a down comforter and both firm and soft pillows. Relative to the rest of the house, this room gets less light but still has two windows and plenty of lighting in the room.

Set in the back of the house, the room is very private and quiet-- you basically have the whole back of the house to yourself, including private access to a cute, intimate backyard where you can sit after your day (or during your day!) and use the barbecue to make dinner. (I love to barbecue and I can show you how to use it).

Your stay comes complete with two beautiful and extremely mellow cats, Roger and Hank! However, the cats are never allowed in the guest bedroom and most guests with allergies have reported that they had no reaction during their stay. They take some time to warm up to others and often tend to disappear when guests arrive.

The house is newly renovated, very clean and cozy with a modern feel and lots of light. It's on the top floor so I have a nice view of Twin Peaks and Eureka Valley which is especially pretty at night. The kitchen, living room, backyard, and washer/dryer are available for guests to use. While the bedroom does not have a TV, I have a 37" flat screen in the living room that you are more than welcome to use. I have a decent selection of independent films and documentaries if you feel like chilling out and watching a movie.

I've lived in San Francisco for 18 years I am not exaggerating when I say that I am in love with this city. I know the city very well and can help guide you to destinations that are worthwhile (and those that aren't). I hope you will grow to love San Francisco as much as I do.

A cab is about $55 plus tip. You can take BART (public transportation) to the 16th Street Station or Civic Center (approx. $8 per person, one way). I suggest you take a cab from there (approx. $7.00) because my place is on a hill which is quite steep at a couple points - you don't want to be lugging your bags up the hill although many guests have done it. SuperShuttle is a "shared ride" airport shuttle that transports several passengers and is cheaper but generally takes longer ($18 for one person; $28 for two).

Guest Access

In addition to your bedroom and bathroom, you will have access to the kitchen, living room, and dining area. Also you have access to all amenities in the kitchen (appliances, pots/pans, and condiments too so you don't have to buy those). You also have access to my TV in the front room where you can use my Netflix account and my Amazon Prime account as well.

Interaction with Guests

I love talking with the guests. However, there are some days when I am not at home at all because I go to school about an hour and a half away. I don't eat meals with guests but I really enjoy hanging out when our schedules align.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Chris was available at check in, and gave us a nice tour and orientation to her place. We were impressed with her friendliness and hospitality. We were also impressed with her organizational abilities, with the decor (she has a lot of interesting photos adorning the walls), and with the cleanliness of her place. She also has a lot of interesting books available. Chris was friendly and available to us but yet quiet. The perfect host, no question.

  • For the last two years from January - April i have been based in San Francisco on business secondment and have both times stayed at Chris's lovely apartment in the Castro district. I highly recommend it. Each time Chris has really made me feel at home. Great location, clean, tidy and private place. Highly recommended and would stay there in again in a heart beat. Thanks Chris for another amazing stay.

  • Chris' place was in a great location in the Castro district, just blocks from famous Harvey Milk plaza, Twin Peaks, and all that Castro has to offer. And free parking right on the street by her place! While Chris was not there when we arrived, she ensured we had a seamless time getting in. The room was lovely, with sumptuous bedding and a bath outfitted with every amenity you could ask for, including allergy medicine! (Who thinks of that??) Same with local guide books and maps, and a 'take a book' stack if you need something to read. She even had a little box of arrival goodies on the desk - nuts, cookies, crackers - plus bottled water just to make you feel comfortable. She was a delightful hostess, providing us with great restaurant referrals that were off the tourist map. And, unlike many airbnb stays, she actually provides you with a self-service cold breakfast - which is exactly all we needed. You will do well to select her home for your SF stay! (Fair warning: ensure you read her directions about the cats, lest you temporarily lose one of them like we did! Thanks for your patience, Chris!)

  • Chris was great! Very pleasant to work with and would recommend her to our friends.

    March 2014
  • I greatly enjoyed my stay with Chris in her lovely residence. I found the apartment exactly as described. It's located in a typical San Francisco frame building in a very hilly and scenic neighborhood. I got more of a resident's perspective of SF life, which would be unlikely if I had stayed in a hotel.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Chris' pad. The location is neat, just a few blocks up from the heart of Castro and several bars, eateries, bus and metro lines. The room and kitchen were very clean and we had fun meeting the cats. Chris is a very nice host - personable and helpful with tips about the area.

    February 2014
  • The accommodation was really comfortable. I could relax like my home. Chris was kind enough to provide necessary information about the neighborhood.

    February 2014
  • Chris created a space that felt like a five star hotel - a wonderful bed, linens, gigantor towels and pristinely clean everything - it really felt like our own place. I seriously think it is my best experience on airbnb yet - I'll go back every time im in sfo. An amazing, amazing place to stay!

    January 2014
  • Chris' accommodation was just what we needed. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a pleasure to chat with Chris, who gave us lots of useful information on transport, sightseeing and dining. Would be happy to stay again if we get back to San Francisco.

    January 2014
  • Thank you Chris for everything! Your house and room are beautiful and in such a great location. We loved your kitties too! It was really nice meeting you and I enjoyed our chats. Super comfy bed, in such a spacious room. We were very impressed with how you set up the room, better than most hotels I'd say! And very generous of you to provide your guests with so many thoughtful amenities. Hopefully we make it back to SF soon, thank you again!

I am originally from the east coast but moved to San Francisco 18 years ago. I love this city -- it's a magical place with a collective spirit of diversity, creativity, and open-mindedness. I'm currently getting my PhD in sociology where I focus on elites and education. I'm also a freelance photographer for a textbook called Seeing Sociology. I love movies, mostly independent films and documentaries. My favorite films are The Station Agent and American Beauty. My favorite documentary is Baraka (I have all these movies here which you are welcome to watch). Lately I'm into watching LGBT short films - attended Frameline Film Festival here at the Castro just a few days ago. I love to travel. I have driven across country twice in the last few years. My most recent international trip was to Cuba. I love meeting new people and enjoy hearing about people's lives. So I hope we will have a chance to talk while you're here! I love good food too. I do some cooking, but I'm better at knowing where to get good food in the city. I'm a big music fan as well - in fact I have a guitar here you are welcome to play if you know how since I sure haven't been using it lately. I am also up on the best venues to see music in the city if you're interested in that.
