The Space

We have a gorgeous, 3,000 square foot Craftsman-style home in historic and trendy Lockeland Springs neighborhood in East Nashville, just a few miles from downtown Nashville. The neighborhood is charming, with coffeehouses, restaurants, clubs, a health food store and art galleries, all within walking distance. You can catch a bus to downtown a block from our house or park your car on the street in front of our house. The private room we offer is upstairs, has its own beautiful bathroom with a clawfoot tub/shower fixture and a ventilating skylight, a small balcony and internet access. We provide bagels, OJ, and coffee/tea in our spacious kitchen for you to prepare or you can bring in your own food. You are free to use our washer and dryer. Our home has many distinctive architectural features, an eclectic art collection, and a half-acre yard and deck surrounded by trees. We are politically-progressive musicians who play in an acoustic Americana band, Shelby Bottom String Band (check our our East Nashville Rag video on YouTube.) I run a statewide organization and my husband works in health care. We are especially interested in hosting musicians and like-minded people who want to explore a different side of Nashville than the usual tourist haunts. East Nashville was identified in USA Today on 4/16/13 as one of ten "Best Neighborhoods in the Country that the Tourists Haven't Yet Discovered."

  • I was in Nashville only for the weekend to attend a family wedding. Michael met me at 3pm when I checked in and gave me an orientation. He also gave me a code that enabled me to get a free Lyft to the airport for my return flight which I very much appreciated. The room was upstairs and totally private with an attached bath. it was clean, spacious and comfortable. Their house was located just up the street from my niece's house so it was super convenient and the neighborhood was familiar. Michael explained how to walk to some nearby restaurants. Their street was quiet both during the day and at night. I hardly saw Michael or Nell during the weekend, as I was out a lot and I guess they were too so when I was there it was like having the house to myself.

  • After a long week of business travel I booked the beautiful room in Nell and Michael's wonderful home. They gave me a warm welcome and I had the chance to have 2 wonderful night's of sleep, a bubble bath in the claw foot tub in the private bathroom and mornings waking up to the sound of chirping birds in their big yard filled with trees. Michael and Nell offered neighborhood tips for restaurants, transportation and music. They are both extremely talented musicians and my treat now that I have returned home is listening to the CD that I bought from them. AMAZING!!!
If you want a great Nashville experience with wonderful hosts you will not be disappointed. It's a great location, clean, lovely, and just what this gal needed.
Thanks Nell and Michael!! See you again next time I'm in town.

  • My girlfriend and I used Nell and Michael's place as a quick stopover for two nights on our way though TN. They could not have been better hosts. They waited up for us to get in our first night (even though we interrupted their band's rehearsal). The house is amazing, clean, comfortable, quiet and very close (walking distance) to awesome food and bars in east Nashville. It was a delight and I recommend it to anyone for a short or long stay!

  • Nell and Michael were great hosts! Their house was homey and very comfortable. It is in a great location in East Nashville with lots of good food, entertainment and shopping nearby. The room was very nice and we enjoyed having juice and bagels available for breakfast. Nell and Michael also gave us great ideas about what to do and where to eat in East Nashville. We enjoyed listening to them practice music for their Shelby Bottom String Band and bought one of their CDs. We will definitely stay with Nell and Michael again in the future.

  • Nell was helpful as we planned our visit and compassionate when we had to change plans. We hope to visit Nashville in the future and will certainly be back in touch. Thank you!

  • Staying with Nell and Michael was wonderful! Not only did they provide a charming and clean room with everything a Nashville traveler needs, but they went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. Michael offered tons of tips and insider scoop on how and where to get a local experience. The house is within walking distance to the awesome Five Points neighborhood where you'll find great bars, restaurants, coffee shops and nice people. If you have a chance to go see Nell and Michael's band, like we did, take the chance! East Nashville Rag!

  • This was a great, clean room with a charming tub. My husband and I stayed for two nights and enjoyed it very much. Nell and Michael were friendly and helpful. The amazing claw-foot tub was my favorite detail.

  • I had a fantastic time staying with Nell and Michael in Nashville. The location was perfect for me - a lot more quieter than staying in the more touristy downtown area but easily accessible via the bus or Lyft. Their place was so cozy and was the perfect combination of having my own space and then being able to go downstairs and chat to Nell and Michael. They have great tips for all things Nashville, having introduced me to so many great places (you've got to go to Sweet 16th Bakery!) and things like bluegrass music and Lyft. They went beyond their duty of hosts and offered me food when we were iced in and also invited me along to see them play music, which I enjoyed so much! Thank you Michael and Nell for a memorable and delightful trip!

About
My husband Michael and I are part of a community of musicians and progressive activists in Nashville. We live in the East Nashville, a diverse neighborhood. We play traditionally-based music and our political network stretches across the state. We enjoy sharing our home with others (we have frequently hosted parties and meetings here) and love showing people another side of Music City USA. Check out our band, Shelby Bottom String Band on YouTube, especially our East Nashville Rag video. It was all shot in our neighborhood. Just (website hidden) East Nashville Rag and it will take you to it. East Nashville Rag is also the title cut of our CD.
